"Great sound and number of features"

by peedub on March 2, 2006

Pros: Sounds great, plenty of power, lots of connectivity options

Cons: does not include proprietary $60 ipod cable, ipod navigation is too slow and cumbersome, gimmicky remote control

Summary: i bought this primarily because of Denon's reputation for hi end sound, HDMI switching, and the ipod OSD. Audessey does a great job for calibration. The difference is remarkable. Sounds great. HDMI quality also does not disappoint. Ipod controls are worthless though. Navigation is much too slow. Scrolling through your MP3's to find a song can take minutes. $60 for a denon branded cable is a joke. MCM sells a generic cable for $10. Works the same.

You said you bought the Denon "primarily because of Denon's reputation for hi end sound." If you are worried about "high end" sound why would you be listening to music in MP3 format which sounds flat and horrible?

Why in the world would it include an ipod cable? Why is that a con?

    Hi,
I have above receiver and I currently have paradigm bookshelf speakers. I am looking forward to have a 5.1 speaker setup. Any suggestions for this? I am leaning more towards satellite speakers or the smaller ones but not restricted to that. Any suggestions welcome

    Peedub,
I would like to get that $10 cable you mentioned. Have you actually used it and confirmed that it works? Can you point me to a site and a part # that I can order it from?

    Thanks in advance!!!

Hey, I've got this big collection of stuff;drives, computers, a projector, and a Rio mp3 player. The thing doesn't connect to the Rio Sport, well actually maybe it does through the front panel port (I'll have to go downstairs and test that..)

The point is that it's infinitely interesting as the geek in me dives through the manuals. But it's way simple in that I don't have anything whose cord does not connect to it.

    Way cool!

Oh yeah, if you like it loud, it goes to eleven!

I'd like to know if you've experienced any of the hdcp handshaking problems found by some with your cable box or other devices?
