"Great Receiver!"
Pros: Powerful wattage with more than enough power for your home theater. Bought this with a package containing Boston Acousitcs speakers w/ powered sub for $500. Great deal when the receiver itself sells for $300 itself.
Cons: Ipod dock is not included and costs greater than 150 although it does contain a Wifi connection to setup listening from your laptop wireless.
Summary: Works great whether listening to a blu-ray, cable, or music. I wouldn't bother paying up for a receiver using Dolby True-HD as blu-rays aren't even being processed in this format yet. This processes in DTS and Dolby-Digital which is what the majority of movies are being processed with.

Hey There Bill.....
Just purchased a denon AVR 589 and am having a little problem with it, was hoping you might know a little more about the system than myself and be able to lend some assistance. I cant seem to get my HDMI connections to run both audio and video. The only way I can hear and see at the same time is with optical audio inputs. Is there a setting I'm missing that designates my HDMI to handle audio? I just cant get it to work right....sounds great for the price but I really wanted to get away from all the other cableing (RCA/OPT/COAX), I mean, arent HDMI suppose to handle audio and video? Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated. thanks
Brian
