"Great sound but HDMI problems"
Pros: Sound quality
Cons: Have to power unit off and back on when satellite resolution is changed.
Summary: I bought this unit expressly for its HDMI hookup and connected it to a DirecTV HD20 receiver and Samsung DLP TV. The satelite receiver can automatically switch to best resolution for each channel, a feature that I like and do not want to turn off. However the JVC will stop outputing video when this input is changed. The manual notes that this can be an issue and recommends turning the unit off then back on - this does fix the problem but it meant that I had to power the unit off and on practically every time I changed the channel on the TV.
I also connected an Emerson DVD/HDD/VCR to the receiver via component cables but never could get a picture via the HDMI output - finally just had to connect it directly to the TV. I quit trying to troubleshoot this issue when I discovered the other problem described above, but it was defeating my purpose of running just one cable to the TV and not having to switch inputs on the TV when I switch between satellite and DVD.

Aloha, I just purchased the RX-D412B over the weekend. The unit is connected to a Panasonic 50 inch LCD and Toshiba DVD player with a HDMI output. I bought this unit to accomplish a couple of tasks;(1) to provide a better overall picture from my DISH analog channels (2) to enhance my PS2 video/audio (3) To get the best possible picture output from my Toshiba DVD player (4) Upgrade my current audio system to 7.1 suround sound.
(1) The DISH picture dramatically improved in the analog and HD mode...adjusting the controls on the tiny JVC menu display was difficult, not to mention trying to understanding the system set-up configuration-definately not for a novice autophonic.(2) The PS2 connections were more of a challenge...finally figure out the proper configuration and correct settings-but it was very difficult. Great game sound and picture!
(3 and 4) The Toshiba DVD player was a straight-forward connection and HDMI configuration was relatively easy. The 1080i picture was awesome...and the 7.1 surround sound was well worth the other hassles.
