Manufacturer description
A tremendous gap exists between entry-level and seriously high-end home theater receivers. Where can you find a powerful, versatile, yet affordable 7.1-channel workhorse that can transform music and movies into something truly spectacular? Enter the TX-SR603 - a receiver that houses the consistent power and superior signal processing necessary for uncompromised sound quality. If you've already made the move to HDTV - or are planning to - the TX-SR603's ability to switch or up-convert to component video will enable transmission of pristine images through a single cable, no matter what video format you have connected. A time base corrector (TBC), meanwhile, alleviates "clock jitter" - short-term variations in the digital signal that can seriously degrade picture quality. And don't think your entertainment is limited to one room. With Powered Zone 2, you can have a surround sound movie in your main room while a separate audiophile stereo source is sent to another room. The TX-SR603 also carries extras that have proved popular in the more advanced receivers: Auto Speaker Set-up with Microphone, CinemaFILTER, and RI capability. Combining everything you need to move into a better league of home theater - the TX-SR603 by Onkyo.

exellent sondsby Stuart Knight - December 21, 2007
Pros: component upgrade from s- video
Cons: no hdmi but it's a gimmick to sell a pricer cable
Review:
I've had my Onkyo 603 for two years now and I love it.
The theatrical sounds are phenominal. Robust, crisp and accurate.
This receiver works well with my ipod although I recommend shielded cables for your ipod. I can hear slight interference when music is not playing.
The 603 is user friendly with onscreen menus and can be set up to user specifications if wanted.
A great buy. I highly recommend it.

Onkyo SR 603by gary935 - July 11, 2006
Pros: Component Upconversion-Speaker adjustment-Volume- On screen display
Cons: Remote Control
Review:
I had posted a review on a terrific Pioneer VSX-816 that I brought to replace a dead Pioneer Elite VSX-24TX. I was hoping to get that unit replace but I was impressed none the less with the Pioneer. Yesterday I went out and purchased the Onkyo SR 603. If I was impressed with the Pioneer 816 and the Pioneer Elite, I was floored by the Onkyo.
First thing is the Onkyo outputs 90 watts per seven channels (Real world numbers) unlike other companies who submit number that are not likely to be anywhere near the numbers published. I have AR 312HO speakers that require much power to sound good and I was able to produce an insane amount of volume from this receiver without distortion.
The surround sounds options are great and I heard separation and sound I could not hear from my Pioneer 816 or my THX certified Pioneer Elite. Obviously the pioneer Elite was 6 years old now but the sound from the Onkyo was transparent, smooth sounding. I was not expecting the sound from this unit to rival that of the Pioneer Elite.
I like the fact that all connections are upconverted to components. This helped simplify my setup as I have two unit that only have S-video.
I like the fact that I can assign each digital input to a particuliar equipment. I also like the on screen display and the ability to manually set up my speakers.
On another plus, the system came with an autosetup microphone. Plug it in and run the setup and the system will determine your speakers sizes and the right settings for each.
There are so many good things to say about this receiver but the truth is in the use. Try it out and you will not be disapointed.

Onkyo TX-SR603/X Excellent 5.1 and 2nd Zone Soundby aapoole - February 14, 2006
Pros: Not Available
Cons: Not Available
Review:
As an Onkyo Dealer in Owasso, Oklahoma I can tell you this is my #1 product sold and I am not a large company either, so product dependability is key for me.
What I love about this unit is that it is great for home theater and holds its own in 2nd Zone applications. This unit is built to last and won't disappoint.
Suggest Coupling 2nd Zone with volume controls.
