"Power House"
Pros: Great features and input variety
Cons: Customer service was not of much use.
Summary: Things weren't perfect out of the box. There was a problem with my Samsung HL-S6187W displaying the HDMI output correctly. Calling Onkyo customer service was an exercise in futility. The person I spoke to eventually said that he didn't know what to do.
It turned out that the on-screen menu was the hang-up. If I want to view that, I have to turn off the HDMI output and use a composite video output.
The unit has more features than you can shake a stick at. Output of sound and video is outstanding.
I have the following connected to it.
The aforementioned Samsung 61" DLP HDTV
Dish Network HD DVR (HDMI)
Sony Up-Convert DVD player (HDMI)
XBOX 360 (component video - optical digital audio)
Wii (composite video and analog audio)
Pioneer CD player (optical digital audio)
Onkyo iPod dock (composite video and analog audio)
Output goes to a 6.1 system made up of speakers from Aperion Audio.
The system is pretty killer.
Auto detection and switching of valid surround sound modes for each source works great.
Everything that I have plugged into it displays through a single HDMI output going to my TV. The sole exception is the on-screen menu from the receiver.
The unit is heavy. You have read this before. If you buy one and pick it up you will still find yourself saying, "Dang. This thing is heavy."
It also gets hot. You have read this too. Same as above.
I have a fan blowing on mine when I am gaming or listening to things that are, shall we say, not subtle. This may be unnecessary. But it makes me feel better.
I love this thing.
I did opt to round-out the system with a Logitech Harmony 890 remote. Moving from one activity to the other is much easier now. I can even use all the functions of my DVR using this remote.

Hi. Glad you like your unit. As you can see from my review, I am very satisfied with mine as well. I did note that you said you cannot get the 805's on-screen menu on your display using your HDMI conneciton. I was curious about that as mine comes on fine through my HDMI cable. Just thought I'd mention that.
