"Why the low score, cNet?"
Pros: -Power
-Clarity
-Runs cool
-Doesn't mess with video signalsCons: Initially overpriced, now available under $300
Summary: I understand the criticism on price, but this receiver is virtually identical in specs to Sony's STR-DG820 yet sounds much better and currently sells for less. I guess it depends on what's important to you - do you want an on-screen menu you'll use once when you set up your receiver, upconversion for analog signals your HDTV can probably deinterlace better, and a Room EQ that may or may not make things worse? Or would you rather have a simple, efficient, powerful, affordable, and reliable receiver which takes advantage of a high-value Class-D amp (such as in the Pioneer Elite SC-05 and 07 receivers)? Three HDMI inputs are enough for me, and for $300 or less this thing is untouchable. I just hope these reviewers don't force Panasonic out of the AVR business. There are many many happy customers of these receivers who know they're getting a better value than any other receiver on the market.

Great points. All the reason Panasonic needs to have more options in their stand alone receiver lineup. At minimum a good, better, best receiver lineup. BX500 being the good. Step up Panasonic and deliver a better and a best model and you will see customers buy the product. Especially with customers eating up your fantastic plasma's and BR players. They would want nothing more than to have a nice high end Panasonic receiver to go with all the rest of the Panasonic gear in their home theater system.
I sure hope they don't exit the AVR business.
