"Amps performs and looks great!" on by goosecreature

Pros: Good power. Great looks. This amp was really easy to set up. It has a mic that can do its own calibration. It can decode all the modern surround formats. The comparison doesn't list all the formats it can do. Check manfactures website for full list.

Cons: No real issues. It was not immediately apparent how to get it to take video from an HDMI input and audio from an optical input. I got no audio. Manual was no help but managed to find a solution. Press signal sel button until you have sound and video.

Summary: If you are looking to get a high current amp with a longer than average warranty and with great sound and looks, this is the amp for you. The only reason I didn't give this amp 5 stars is the fact that I had to use the Internet in order to get my setup to work the way I wanted - which is by the way, a way that many people would want it to work.

It's a great HDMI switch as well. With 3 HDMI inputs it gives all of your digital sources a place to go.

All in all, the amplifier is very flexible. Lots of inputs, many of which can be configured to work together in different ways. You would be hard pressed to get in a position where you couldn't get your modern stuff to all work together. If you have a typical setup like a TV, VCR, DVD/Blue Ray player, game system, and satellite receiver, you will be in good shape with this amp. All of your stuff will have a home.

Another pro for this amp is the fact that it is THX certified. This doesn't make it sound any different, but it does mean that those who make movie sound have reviewed it and deemed it worthy of certification. I like this. The primary role of this amp in my home is movie watching, so this is something that makes me feel good about this particular amp.

"Ten thumbs up. Stars all around." on by Tang0o3

Pros: Easy enough set up. Looks great. Sounds amazing.

    Cons: Nothing yet.

Summary: I would like to start by say that this is my first receiver. I have done quite a bit research and asked many opinions. I was able to go to 6 Ave and test them out. I was on a budget and was going to buy a cheaper receiver so that I can afford speaker but then I read that the receiver makes the speakers even better. I coughed up a few more bucks a got the elite. I actually went to the store in mind of getting the 1018 but got talked into getting the Elite. What a choice. I have my old Sony speakers that has 550 watts to test this out and it sounds amazing. I only hooked up the front three, (center, front left and front right). When I hooked it up originally, it was no biggie. I played around since I am new at this, I also had my brother in law help out too. Everything was just ok at first. Once I put on a blue ray movie, I was impressed with the sound that came out of my speakers. I didn't even have my sub hooked up and it sounded like if I had true surround sound. I not even in a rush to get new speakers. I could save up to get a better quality. I am very happy with the whole thing. The reason I did not give it 5 stars was because, even though it plays your iPod songs and you can control with the remote, you CAN'T play the video through the Elite. Although I was able to hook it up through my PS3 and play the video from there. Again, this is my first one and other then playing with some others in the store, I have zero experience with receivers.
