With Dolby Digital and DTS the VSX-21 delivers the surround sound processing demanded of today's home theaters. The sound tracks too bright? Then activate the Cinema Re-Equalization to "tame down" the front three channels' high-frequency output. And since all sound processing takes place in digital domain, there is no degradation of sound quality. The VSX-21 also gives you the freedom to make amplifier upgrades on all channels with the provision of the 6 channel pre-outs, while front Audio/Video inputs make it easy to quickly hook up new components like video recorders. Finally, as is the case with all Elite receivers, the VSX-21 also uses Banana speaker terminals that allow you to use a low-gauge wire to drive your speakers with as much signal transfer as possible. Advanced Theater function provides three modes (Action/Drama/Musical) to increase the realism of your multi-channel movie soundtracks. Since most movies can be broken into three basic genres, Action, Drama, or Musical, there is a mode provided for each of these movie types. Also provided is 5-D Theater, which increases the surround effects for Dolby Surround Movies. All 4 digital inputs can be associated (assigned to) with any of the receiver's input functions to insure flexibility of installation. The Digital output can be connected directly to a digital recording device (e.g. CD Recorder).
