"Bang for the buck is right here" on by readjohn6
Pros: Price to features ratio; sound.
Cons: No audio on HDMI; Trouble with low impedence speakers
Summary: Great value for the $374.00 I paid.
This pioneer a/v receiver (like my last pio) does not care for anything except 8 ohm speakers, and will shut down at high volumes if low impedence speakers are used. Not a problem, though, just an observation.
The sound is very nice. Very happy with this unit, would buy again if stolen. -
"The only contender in sub $300" on by strathack
Pros: THX, HDMI passthrough, connections galore, decodes all the new embedded formats, high power.
Cons: At this price...none
Summary: While this receiver is not perfect it certainly brings the world of THX to the common folk. I agree that there are features that would have been nice but then those are available on much pricier models from everyone. The fact that Pioneer managed to pull off this beautiful machine with the best street price around for THX is a wonder in itself. If you have a taste for the expensive then bugger off and go that way but this is the working mans home theater receiver and deserves recognition in that venue.
Sound is awesome and setup couldn't be any easier as it will tailor itself to your environment. Outstanding in features for the price. -
"Blows Away My Denon 3801" on by scroy
Pros: The surround modes just sound awesome, great autosetup
Cons: could use a slightly richer overall sound-just turn up sub tho
Summary: I dumped my Denon 3801 (had 4+years) for this. I have to say that with the Denon I never even came close to the all enveloping surround perfection I hear from this receiver. I attribute it to the MCACC setup in which you put a microphone(supplied) where your sitting position is and the receiver will set all the speakers(I run a 7.1 all JMLab) accordingly. It works like magic. DVDs have never sounded better. I realize the Denon was a better quality component (cost me over $850 online-retailed for $1199) but I could never quite get the surround modes sounding as good as this $400 baby. The sound is crystal clear on this and very very natural, almost too much so but I am used to my "warm" Denon so I will get used to it. It actually seems more precise. I do not have an HDTV setup so I cannot comment on the HDMI capability. This receiver is an absolute steal.

"Great value for the money" on by yvanh
Pros: Assignable inputs, good power, solid build
Cons: Quirky surround management settings, manual unclear in some respects
Summary: Bought my first Pioneer receiver more than 30 years ago and I'm pleased to see that the company has stuck with its core product line approach. 40 pounds of every imaginable input and output for an HDTV + audio setup. Very quiet amp. The front end gets a little flashy with all the indicators on, but you can them off if you prefer. HDMI ins are for video only. Makes sense. Why have audio passthru if you have a 770 watt receiver and speakers sitting there. Instructions with respect to remote programming are somewhat nebulous and the surround management settings are a little quirky. Nits aside, a great buy.

"P for Power sound, Price, and Pioneer" on by hailnazareth
Pros: Thx certified, different soround settings, LCD remote, affordable, and windows compatable.
Cons: LCD remote should had a backlit and HDmi is only for video
Summary: Im a Pioneer fan since the turntables and mixers, so I know that pioneer is great quality. I own a HDTV and with this reciever, its worth every penny even though the HDMI inputs are only for Video. If anyone purchase this A/V reciever, I recommend some Polk audio speakers or Pioneer speakers. I suggest pioneers instead, because their 8 ohm and affordable than polks..
