"Pioneer Elite a/v receiver competitive in the midrange."4.5 starson by johnpy2
Pros: Sound is awesome. My speakers have disappeared. Now there is a soundstage, or a soundfield. In three dimensions. The video looks better also. The first time I pumped DTS-HD directly into the receiver I thought I was in heaven.
Cons: I swear they all take courses in how obtuse they can design a remote control to be. i'm an engineer and it's embarassing. I will say that it is a VAST improvement over the Denon I just took out of service.(More comment on the Denon than the Pioneer)
Summary: First video I watched on the new system was the Blu Ray of "9". Picture gets about a 9 (only because I have to leave myself room to go up -- it was incredible), and the sound - the sound was a 10. Whoever was doing the foley work, from generating sounds to mixing them and then the editors putting them into the scenes, they all were on top of what they were trying to tell in the specfic situation, and the sounds of their world or environment really helped to both ground them in their current situation but also show their -- it was just really good.
