"Too expensive as it does not supply the advertised features!"
Pros: Many good features. Both Audio and Video.
Cons: Only two HDMI input connections. Does NOT up convert as advertised.
Summary: The marketing says that it allows integration -- the purpose for the ES series. 2x-4x the price depending on model. However, there is no up-conversion or integration.
The Sony tech support will tell you that it will upgrade to 1080i, however, when you ask them how to do this, after an hour on the phone they will tell you this receiver only "upgrades" to 480p. Since all my sources were 480p, this was not an up-convert. The tech specs sheet is NOT correct.
Don't Believe Me. Buy one and try it!. Call Sony -- they will assure you that it will -- ask them to read pages 35-37 of theier manual and aask them how to make this work.
After much delay, they tell you that this model ONLY does 480P. It pases thru some signal to some outputs, but not to hdmi, etc.
Very disappointing Sony product.

What you are talking about is upscaling not upconversion.
This receiver does indeed upconvert all signals to HDMI, but they will remain at the same resolution as it does not support upscaling; you need the 5200ES for this.
The mention of 1080i is with reference to the maximum resolution of the input signal that it will upconvert to HDMI.
