"Did lotsa research- this is the one"

Pros: GUI, Powerful, 3HDMI ins, Good Remote

Cons: Cannot asign HDMI audio to other inputs, No VGA in for computer

Summary: I did research on HDMI receivers for about 4 months. Was planning on picking up the Pioneer VSX-82. I liked this because it is comparable to the Denon AVR-2807 but adds 1080p upcoversion and an extra HDMI in. Then the Sony came out. It adds another HDMI (3total) and upconverts to 1080p as well. In addition it has a sweet GUI. This is a nice touch. It is very easy to manipulate the inputs with it. I really only used it to set everything up, but now that everything is running, I just use the shortcuts on the remote (faster). The one issue I have is there is no way for me to hook up my computer to it, so I in fact have 2 cords running to my TV. Not a horrible issue but it would have been nice to have a VGA in. I run the computer audio throught the receiver still but for some reason it plays over only one channel. I am not sure if this is an issue with the receiver, the cord or the computer. But again, this is a very small issue. All in all this is an excellent receiver that I would recommend to anyone looking to buy one in this price range. OH YEAH... the important thing for me.... DENON and PIONEER void their warranties if you do not buy from an authorized dealer... SONY does NOT and their warranty is for 5 years (longer than both DENON and Pioneer). This thing is SWEET!!!

If your graphics board has a DVI output, you should be in business. They sell these adapters at any big box consumer electronics store. I was thinking of doing the same thing to hook up my pc. Lemme know if it works for you.

I was in an AV store and asked about Sony in general. They said that they did not carry Sony because Sony equipment had connectivity issues with non-Sony equipment. Something about them using proprietary connections so you need to buy Sony speakers, or perhaps a TV to work with their equipment. I am guessing this guy was BS'ing as I have never heard such a thing, but he said Sony had been doing stuff like this for a while... Any truth to any of this as I am interested in this receiver for the major upconversion options, but I don't want to have issues with my Samsung TV and Definitive Technology speaker system.
