"Sony does it again...The best 7.1 AV Receiver for the money"
Pros: Three HDMI inputs; one HDMI output. It does a great job of converting the analog video signals into digital outputs so you can minimize connections. Sound is fantastic!
Cons: The remote is the biggest challenge. I have it programmed, but you have to do too many touches
Summary: I had a 5.1 Sony STR-555ES for seven years and loved the sound. I wanted to upgrade my receiver to handle HDMI and wanted a unit with three HDMI inputs. I spent time looking at the Sony ES series, but for the differnce in cost and extras, I felt like this was by far the best value. Now that I have had it for about a month, the sound is fantastic, and the video conversions works like a dream. In addition, I have a new Sony 60" Bravia Projection TV and the two work seemlessly together. The auto set-up speaker feature is a nice touch and makes it easy to set them up for immediate use. The GUI that is built-in makes it nice for setting up the entire system on the TV screen. One of the things I like the most is using the TV Optical Input from the TV so I can hear the channels that broadcast in 5.1 in true Stereo. Overall, in true Sony legacy, a 10.0. Howver, deduct 1.0 for the remote
