"Functional"
Pros: Accepts three inputs, produces 1 video output plus surround sound
Cons: I learned about connectivity
Summary: I am not sorry I bought this unit. However I was forced into a learning curve after getting it home. It all works, I just have to pull in a lot more cables.
First of all, Sony advertised this unit with S-Video jacks. It doesn't have any.
Next, I was faced with connectivity problems. I wanted to connect my DVD player and my XBOX to the TV and use this receiver as a switching unit.
After spending several hundred dollars on HDMI cables, I found out that the receiver will only switch HDMI if these cables are present. The XBOX is not HDMI, so it is out.
The receiver does have active switching on the HDMI ports, so it should work if I connect say a PS3, a DVD and use the HDMI output to the TV.
The receiver HDMI output also has an A/V SYNCH control function that will delay the audio to keep the audio and video in synch.
If you forget about the HDMI connectivity, which is why I bought it, this unit has a section allowing three component video signals (green/blue/red)input to be output on Component video.
It also has three or four "left audio(L)right(R)video(V)" input signals that may be output to the similar grade output ports.
The receiver will not accept a signal via "left, right, video" input and use the HDMI cable to go out to the TV. I guess that was too much to ask.
