"Nice mid-range receiver for PS3 and Blu-ray."
Pros: Not too expensive an option for a Blu-ray owner who wants to hear Dolby TRUHD and DTS-MA and has a player or PS3 with built in decoders.3 HDMI inputs...Decent sound and performance.Nice amount of surround modes without too many gimmicks.
Cons: May not be the best option for owners of older non-HDMI equipment. No S-Video inputs.Only 3 digital audio inputs.Ho-hum remote control. No on-screen display.Auto calibration could be a bit better. No upscaling.
Summary: I wouldn't recommend paying too much attention to the 2 negative reviews above.Just because the receiver doesn't do what you thought it would is your own fault for not doing your research and sometimes electronics can be DOA.It's just a fact...I personally have had this receiver for about 10 months and have had no trouble with it.It offers pretty good performance for a "budget" receiver,a fair amount of HDMI inputs with all the proper decoding of standard audio formats and a nice assortment of surround modes. It doen't have all the bells and whistles of more expensive models but I suppose it depends what you need a receiver to do in your set-up..Where this receiver shines is the ability to process up to 7.1 channels of audio from blu-ray whether it be TRUE-HD, DTS-MA or uncompressed formats. But be aware this receiver does not have built in decoding for the HD audio formats so your blu-ray/PS3 player will need to do the decoding...This will not be a good option for owners of older equipment for the most part.It has no S-video connections, only composite, component and HDMI...and only 3 digital audio inputs...The remote is fair and gets the job done but is nothing special,no LCD disply...Auto calibration is ok but has no on-screen display and does nothing for the sub-woofer level.Aside from these small negatives, the receiver is a champ for small to middling rooms where the volume doesn't need to be ear-splitting and you have the abilty to decode the HD audio formats externally and pass them via HDMI...Definitely a good receiver for use with a PS3 and a smaller budget to be sure.
