Yamaha HTR 5930 - AV receiver - 5.1 channel

Entered CNET Catalog: 09/06/2006

SKU: HTR-5930

Manufacturer: Yamaha Corp. of America

Manufacturer description

Conventional multichannel audio reproduction systems base their sound on Dolby Digital and DTS decoding, using matrix and steering technologies to create surround sound effects. Yamaha HTR-5930 is much more advanced, actually creating richly realized independent sound fields that envelop you in an unmatched surround sound experience. With dialog, music and effects from ideally located in these separate sound fields, you will hear sound with accurate placement, smooth movement, exceptional clarity and richness, and startlingly realistic presence. It will seem as if the walls of your room have disappeared and you are in the middle of your own immense theater! The decoding circuitry performs Dolby Pro Logic IIx, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital EX, DTS Digital Surround, DTS-ES (DTS-ES Matrix 6.1 and DTS-ES Discrete 6.1), DTS Neo: 6 and DTS 96/24 decoding with extreme accuracy, as well as all digital sound field processing. A THX Select mode is provided as an extra listening option.

gr8t sound

Pros: dollar value

Cons: complicated encoding

Review: this unit is well powered for a simple home system and nearly compares / compeats with much more expensive units...denon etc....good thd @ above avg power output.

connection options ( ins & outs) etc... are slightly limited w/ only 3 hd inputs... well 4 would be better & the lack of any hdmi only show this unit is ever slightly out dated.....over all i love & enjoy this unit... but one caution " HELP ME OBE WHAN YOU'RE MY ONLY HOPE"...my prayers are w you should you need to ENCODE / INTERGR8 any new items ( x-box, dvd burner...etc) into your system utilizing the remote. Trust me should you choose to accept this mission go ahead and make an appointment with your shrink!!!

Excellent receiver

Pros: Crisp sound, easy to use

Cons: None that I have found

Review: I realize it can be difficult to write a review for a receiver, but this one is great. I had an older Yamaha that died after many years of hard use and moving back and forth to school, so I thought I would go with one that I knew would be agreat product, and Yamaha delivered again! Definitely recommend this for anyone who needs a new receiver!

Nice sound very cheap

Pros: Excelent sound for the price

Cons: It should have a fan

Review: I love this receiver. I didn't buy yamaha speakers because their price is really high, I made my own speakers and the sound got greater than the one the yamaha speakers deliver. Even the distortion at high volumes is little.

great sound and value IF you can make it work!

Pros: WOW sound, great features at a great price

Cons: the person who wrote the use manual obviously NEVER used the unit!

Review: Why is it so stinking diffcult to write a user manual that actually includes INSTRUCTIONS? "They" said the Harmon Kardon AV700 was hard to program but it was child's play compared to this. I even tried the instructions on the Yama-ha-ha web page and those were actually inaccurate!

Okay, so much for whining about programming, if you can get past that, this thing sounds GREAT. My HK AV700 blew out and I got this as an interim replacement - if I can get it programmed it will be permanent. It sounds better than anything I have ever had.

And, lets face it, a 5.1 AVR, DTS, Pro-Logic, XM ready, for under $200...? Yes, there is a Santa Claus! (Ifg only the elves could write a decent *%#!! Manual!)
