"ideal receiver for "champagne tastes on a beer budget"" on by johnnyyama
Pros: great sound from a receiver with more than enough features to choose from, for watching SD or HD movies/TV, or listening to music CD's
Cons: the receiver is not "plug & play" and requires some time & patience for setup - perhaps a university degree to understand the manual which seems to have been extracted from a PhD thesis in electronics
Summary: This review loses one star for the manual. ( But in fairness, how does one describe in simple terms the features of such a complex machine?) Our receiver is the heart of a home theatre system which includes a 50" Panasonic plasma TV and a 5:1 channel Bose speaker array. Even with only 5 speakers the sound from the system is so good. Whether it's watching a movie or listening to a CD, the sound is clear - every word can be understood and the sounds from every instrument discerned.

"Very clean sound. Excellent channel separation. Many input options including 3 HDMI connections." on by thayes8334
Pros: Auto-detects input connections. Auto-setup for speakers works very well (if connections are correct).
Cons: Challenging manual. Difficult to understand speaker connection options. Error code in auto-speaker setup not explained in manual.
Summary: Replaced a Denon AVR-2000 with Yamaha HTR 6080 and would not go back. Am using Logitech Harmony 720 remote and it interfaces very well with the Yamaha. Plenty of inputs -- enough for turntable, tape deck, cd player, DVD player, DVD/VCR combo, and satellite receiver/DVR. Very good value for the money.

Pros: 3 HDMIs xm radio and ipod compartible
Cons: upscaling to 1080i and 720p is not the best i have seen
Summary: this is a great receiver all in all.has alot of features.highly customizable.my only problem is that its upscaling to hdtv is not the best.otherwise it has alot of power and great connectivity.it upscales all analog video sources so that u can have only one HDMI cable going out to your HDTV.am gonna stick with this one.great features for the price.

"Japanese torture at its most refined." on by orthotox
Pros: Great sound...
Cons: ... if and when you finally find it!
Summary: Don't count on playing movies or cd's the first night home with this monster. First it's everybody back to school, and taking a few hours (or days) learning all the zen-like details of choosing a "template" and making a "scene." Just let me near the over-teched moron who thought this garbage up and I'll be making a scene OK! Unbelievable!
