"Amazing Receiver" on by Ed Abramson

Pros: Plenty of power and inputs. Fabulous sound.

Cons: A little difficult to understand all aspects of the user manual.

Summary: Rated this a 10 based on meeting MY needs. This receiver is amazing. Driving 2 NHT VT-2 speakers bi-amped and 3 NHT super-one speakers for center and surround. Also attached a Samsung FP-T6374 Hi-def Plazma, Sony DVD player(waiting for the Samsung BD-UP5000) and a TiVo series 3 Hi-def DVR, all(except the DVD player) with HDMI. Unbelievable performance.

    Updated on Sep 17, 2008

I have since upgraded my center speaker to a NHT Classic three center, the surround speakers to NHT Classic three bookshelf and have added the Samsung BD-UP5000 with the firmware update, a 160 gig Apple TV, A Yamaha DVD-C961 Changer and the XM attachment to the RX-V1800. I have also upgraded my speaker cables to Blue Jeans 10AWG wire with Banana plugs. The RX-V1800 is the nerve center and does an awesome job. Extremely happy with this purchase.

"Great made receiver a real Yamaha product!" on by Rudely77

Pros: Sound is great, bass is low, HD audio is perfect

Cons: Heavy to lug around, sub connection is a bit sensitive in back

Summary: First, I am not a Yamaha rep or anything, I actually own 2 receivers by Yamaha and a R6 motorcycle by them as well, I am merely a fan and dedicated user. I've had this since it came out, (2007?) and I'm very satisfied with it. I was thinking of upgrading to something else but figured why mess with a great thing? For the past 3+ yrs this receiver has never failed me and has always cranked out the best no matter what I've thrown at it. HD sound is great, Dolby digital works well, and there is really nothing wrong with this receiver. No problems like switching or anything with mine. I have yet to really crank this thing up but living in an apt makes it difficult. The receiver actually helps in this case because you can set the vol. level at a fixed # so it doesn't go above what you set it for. This among the other great features I have enjoyed with my Klipsch 6.1 speaker set really makes me love the Yamaha receiver product line. If you are looking for a well built receiver that can crank loud and handle todays HD audio, look towards Yamaha.

"Good sound, bad video switching." on by dei08dei

Pros: Good power, good sound. Yamaha customer service is second to none. Very good!

Cons: VERY slow video switching. So slow it is almost unacceptable. There is a 4-5 second delay when you switch imputs. Not good when you are switching from one source to another.

Summary: Good sound, bad video switching. If you can find one CHEAP, it may be worth a try. Check out Home Theater magazine. They DO NOT recommend ANY Yamaha receivers.
