great value for the buck

Pros: 5.1 channel surround,
dependable, great sound, easy to configure your way, easy remote. rx-v361 is great in picture processing. no new feature to upgrade the signal to 1080 i or p, but it decodes and provide an elegant and affordable sound and pics

Cons: not really a con, but since hdmi is the newest and better connection type, if you need hdmi try the higher ends, still affordable, but besides the hdmi they do not offer nay more features then the rx-v361, and still the rx v361 has a better remote.

Review: great price, excellent sound quality, buy it with confidence. i am using my unit now for the m/br sound system since i have upgrade the living room to the rx v565. you won't regret it

This unit should be rated at 20 Watts not 100 Watts

Pros: Yamaha Technology

Cons: No power and my speakers don't require a lot of power.

Review: I have owned Yamaha's for many years and am a big fan. I have a Yamaha RX-V800 that is rated at 100 Watts per channel. The RX-V361 can't come close to the sound volume and depth produced by the RX-800 although they are both rated at 100 Watts. I tried two RX-V361's to ensure there wasn't some kind of defect - both were gutless.

Great value for component video AV

Pros: Sounds great after setup

Cons: Twiddly setup; awful remote

Review: If you're used to plug-and-play installs, this is not the amp for you. It has a "basic" setup option, but by choosing this option, you lose all the things that make this amp a great value (crossover, individual speaker config, decoder options, etc.). Once you get it tweaked, this thing is crisp and very clear, especially the center channel. It handles LFE very well, too, after you correctly set the crossover frequencies for your subwoofer. With optical input from my Cable/DVR and PCM from my DVD, I've never had it so good. Incredible value if you don't need S-Video or HDMI.

The remote is poorly configured (too many functions, small buttons, etc.) but most remotes are designed as an afterthought these days, it seems. Once you do manage to get everything configured, it's easy enough to use, though. LOTS of menus to click through.

For an entry level receiver, this unit delivers plenty of high quality sound

Pros: Lots of inputs, great sound, ability to modify presets, good looks, price.

Cons: It may just be me, but I found the setup menus confusing

Review: Although this is a low priced, entry level unit, I found that it produces great sound. There are more than enough connections for both audio and video, and the unit has a nice look and feel. It would be nice if the setup menus were easier to use.
