    "Excellent....but" on by kruzmisl

    Pros: Lots of features

Cons: Does not up/down convert HDMI

Summary: I was ready to buy this receiver and Yamaha came out with the RX-V2600. A few less features, like HD Radio, but it up converts HDMI which the 4600 doesn't. Also down converts things like HDTV to a video tape. 2600 street price about $900 also.

I wanted a high quality, feature rich, receiver. That is why I bought the RX-V4600. I do not want my receiver's design and production cost to be wasted on building in upconversion for lesser quality components. Those components DVD players etc, should do their own upconverting. If you can not afford to buy quality components to connect to a quality receiver then please go ahead and buy a less expensive receiver with built-in upconverting and also buy less expensive components that need upconverting. I myself value other features like THX Select 2, HD Radio, HDMI switching, audio specs, etc. If you do not own this receiver then you certainly should not be reviewing it.
