"Not too shabby"on by hiryupi
Pros HDMI switching, DSP modes, sound quality
Cons Unassignable audio
Summary I've had mine for 1 week now and I love it. I replaced a 9 year old Kenwood with this and couldn't be happier. I have Infinity SM speakers and hearing the sound difference between receivers was fairly substantial. The review said last years model sounded better, but I can't imagine how. I really enjoy the DSP modes, I like the way it changes stuff up a bit. I haven't noticed the analog upconversion being too bad. I have my Wii with a composite cable and a dvd player with component cables hooked up to this and it looks acceptable. I also have my home theater PC hooked up to it through HDMI and that is fantastic as well. Overall this is a very good receiver and I do not regret the purchase. I used to be a Kenwood man, but this is my first Yamaha and I don't think I will be going back.
Pros It's cheap, and not hard to find a supplier.
Nice enough interface.
The FM (which I don't use) is amazingly good at locking onto weak signals I didn't know existed.
Cons Analog audio output, zone 2 output, and preamp output *all* give no signal unless you are using an analog source. So, I can't use zone 2, which is what I bought it for.
This doesn't match the usual definition of "preamp out", i.e. the low level final anal
Summary If you read the entire manual before purchase, including all the obscure footnotes, and ensure that the
inputs and outputs are in the exact combinations you will need, it seems to work fine.
An example gotcha: "When a component is connected to the PRE OUT terminals, do not connect
speakers to the SPEAKERS terminals corresponding to those PRE OUT terminals". What?!?
The sound is....OK. Noticeably worse than the NAD T775 it replaces, and noticeable crosstalk
between inputs. You can play a CD into audio 1, select audio 2, turn it up and listen just fine!
Pros Nice features (if the unit actually worked
Cons Color is way off. Customer service is terrible. Unit keeps breaking down.
Summary At first I was happy with the unit but noticed that the color was off. Not being picky here... the startup screen for my dvd player is blue and it would show up purple so I would need to reset the unit until it was corrected. Even then the color just seemed off.
After 2 months the unit just stopped working. I drove 45 minutes to the closest repair center, dropped it off, and waited 3 weeks for it to get fixed. The problem was the HDMI inputs. The unit was fine for about a week and then stopped working again. Again drove 45 minutes and waited 2 weeks. They said they changed the motherboard? One month later it started acting up. The picture and sound totally cut out every once in a while. I contacted Yamaha on 10/15 and the service has been terrible. They were very slow at getting back to me. Its ben over 3 months and I'm still actually dealing with them. the staff is incompetent. They asked for the serial number THREE TIMES! Now they say that they will replace it but I have to send them my unit back first. NO EFFIN way. If its been over 3 months to get this far I probably wont get a replacement unit for another 6 months.

Pros Easy to connect for basic sound.
Cons Interface can be complex and doesn't seem to be Mac compatible.
Summary After 4 months of use we returned to manufacturer to correct mysterious powering down. A google search indicates were not the only ones to experience this failure. I expect more from Yamaha and would have exchanged for another brand had if failed 90 days earlier.
Pros Less cables, Great sound, bluray playback and 2 zones.price was fair a guess i got mine from expo the sound is really great i have Yamaha fronts and center, accoustic research sub powered 150w and JVC rears and it all sounds GOOD to me...
Cons So far none, maybe its me but i keep it simple, assigning ports and stuff i don't use. i'm not doing analog upconversion.
Summary My set up never completed said something like phase1 ,when i check all wires were correct?? After that everthing else fell into place. Oh yeah the book is nonsense after a while i just did it myself.
