Acronis sucks

Pros: there is nothing to like about it. NT backup is easier to use.

Cons: Cannot retrieve your serial number unless you register immediately. Cannot edit scheduled back-up because you cannot find your scheduled back-up to edit. Customer support non-existant and Knowledge base contains no knowledge.

Review: I am sorry I wasted my valuable time and $30 on this worthless product (Acronis Home. )

User Rating: 2/10

Wow, where to start?

Pros: None that I've found

Cons: I about 5 attempts, I've had one successful backup. One time appeared to work but a couple days later reported that my system was not protected. I've tried backing to new disks, old, disks, there's always a problem.

Review: Not worth the money. Look for something cheap and simple, try them until you find one that works. I feel totally ripped off by this vendor. Would you trust your data to a product with reviews like you see here?

User Rating: 10/10

I think it is fantastic.

Pros: It does exactly what it says it will do. I have used it to restore certain programs, and I have used it to restore the entire C drive. It has worked great each time.

Cons: The restore operations might could be a little easier to use.

Review:

Updated on Jul 5, 2009

Well here it is 2&1/2 years since I bought it and....I still Love it!!
I've had to use it for a full restore once and partial restores several times.
Worked flawlessly for me.

Tech Support is a joke

Pros: I am using DiskDirector Suite and TrueImage and the inability to get any tech support is just absurd. It's a shame because the product is otherwise pretty good.

Cons: Support is basically non-existent. Any support response at all is painfully slow and woefully incompetent.

Review: I have one semi-advanced question about the preservation of partition offsets that are set when partitions are copied, and it has been over 1 months and they have not responded. Support is clearly offshore and clearly incompetent when you do finally get there. Level 1 after level 1 support tech are stumped by the issue and no one escalates it. Totally unacceptable.

If the company doesn't get better support they will fail no matter how good the product is.

If you NEED disk imaging software, DO NOT USE Acronis

Pros: GUI interface

Cons: Will not work if you change any of your system components. I made multiple images on internal drives and USB drives and verified each one. Acronis said each was corrupt. ABSOLUTELY NOOOO support.

Review: Seagate Diskkeeper and MaxBlast are both built on this engine, but there is something WRONG with theAcronis® True Image Home® version 11.0. Searching various forums revealed many problems. This software seems to be sensitive to changing system components such as CPU, memory and Mobo. After I completely rebuilt my system and manually reinstalled all my software (exactly what I was trying to avoid!!!) Each attempt to recover from backups using the Actronis CD to boot ended by Acronis giving me a message that my backups were corrupt! Because I was able to restore specific files from within Windows after I rebuilt my system, I know that the backups were NOT actually corrupt!!!

I prefer BootIt NG (www.terabyteunlimited.com). The interface is certainly NOT for those who need GUI, but it's absolutely reliable and very fast. I've done a complete restore in 20 min. Today, Acronis took over 2 hours to restore just 34.1 gig of data.

If you need a windows type interface, just buy an external HD and copy your files. It's fast, simple and reliable. If you really NEED disk imaging software, DO NOT BUY ACRONIS!

Very easy to use and restore system. Saved me twice.

Pros: Ease of use was very nice. Wizards take all the guess work out. Worked well.

Cons: No cons. But first time using this type of software so nothing to compare to.

Great product lots of options

Pros: Many ways to backup information

Cons: Help files don't have search function

Review: The 11th release of this product is great, it restored all my files and settings after saving them to a flash drive. It only took a couple of hours total from backup to restore with a full HD format thrown in. Windows required some user input during the restore that made it not exactly "one button" but it worked great. Highly recommended.....It is also $20 cheaper then Norton's with more functionality.

Difficult to use, not all features work AVOID

Pros: Support is responsive, if ineffective

Cons: Does not work, expensive, support does not solve the problems, affects other programs

Review: I bought this product specifically because Windows XP apparently does not allow multi-CD backups "by design" and I have always had trouble making CD/DVD burns. After buying the product at a premium $50, I was surprised that it could not write to the DVD either. After a weekend of intense searching the internet, I found out my DVD write problem - with no help from Acronis, got the backups to work, but the scheduler didn't work, and the scheduler would not allow the computer to shut down or restart. It had to be manually shut down via "end process" from task manager every time I wanted to shut down.

This product also caused major problems with my Epson printer/scanner. I have had a stable system for several years and I've spent hour after hour trying to get this product to work and get my scanner working again.

Customer Support is responsive, but has yet to give an answer that solves any of the multitude of problems.

Dangerous - DO NOT USE

Pros: Does what it says it will

Cons: Unable to cleanly and safely uninstall

Review: I decided to take a trial with this program. I tried it, but wanted to go with a different product, and that's where the nightmare began.

It seems, once you install this program, it is embedded so deeply and completely into your system that you almost need a degree in IT to uninstall it.

Every time I tried to install the other back-up software I had chosen, it reported Acronis in the system, please remove first. I am fairly familiar and comfortable working with registry and cleaner programs, besides the obvious *Add Remove Programs* that comes with Windows.

The upshot is, that after using 4 (FOUR) file removing programs and registry cleaners, Acronis was still on my hard drive... bits and pieces of it.

I wrote to Customer Support - after looking on the web and discovering that MANY other people also had this same problem, and here are the ONLY instructions for removing this product.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Please follow the next steps to fully uninstall
Acronis products:
1. Remove Acronis Secure Zone
2. Remove Windows Installer configuration
- Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility
package from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/en-us,
install it and run it.
- Select the Acronis product that needs to be
unregistered and hit Remove.
3. Remove Acronis True Image Backup Archive
Explorer (see Removing Acronis True Image Backup
Archive Explorer)
- Run Device Manager and delete Acronis True
Image Backup Archive Explorer
- Run regedit and delete the following registry
keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\AcronisTimounterMonitor
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\timounter
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\tifsfilter
- Delete timounter string from:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{71A27CDD-812A-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}
-> UpperFilters
4. Remove Acronis SnapAPI drivers
- Delete snapman key from
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services
- Delete snapman string (only snapman string, do
not touch other items) from:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
-> UpperFilters
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{71A27CDD-812A-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}
-> UpperFilters
5. Open Windows Task Manager and stop the
TrueImageMonitor.exe process
6. Run regedit and delete the following registry
keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Acronis
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Acronis
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.tib
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.tis
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\tibfile
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\tisfile
7. Delete TrueImageMonitor.exe value from:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Delete \Program Files\Acronis folder
Delete \Program Files\Common Files\Acronis folder
Delete \Documents and Settings\All
Users\Application Data\Acronis folder
Delete \WINDOWS\system32\autoprnt.exe if it
exists
Delete shortcuts from Desktop and Start menu
8. Reboot the computer.
~~~~~~~``
For someone who is not familiar with registry values and messing about with system files, these instructions are worse than useless. They pose a very real danger of crashing your computer.

DO NOT install this product unless you are positive you plan to keep it and that it does not conflict with other back-up programs. Until there is a SAFE and complete uninstall solution, I recommend that no one
uses it. BTW, they blame the uninstall problem on Windows not removing programs well enough. That may be true, but this is the first program I ever tried that blocked other programs from being installed and could not be uninstalled.

Did not honor Money Back Guarantee

Pros: Might work for some people

Cons: Did not work for me

Review: I purchase this based on some positive reviews and the fact that the company had a plainly stated 30-day money back guarantee. The software caused nothing but trouble. Two days after downloading it, I requested that they honor their money back guarantee. They simply ignored my repeated requests.

I cannot recommend the product due to poor performance. I cannot recommend the company due to bad business practices.

Terrible program that does not work

Pros: loads fast, nice looking graphics

Cons: does not work well with vista, Zero customer support, could not get the program to work, and with no customer support had to return the program for a refund.

Review: I bought and installed the Acronis home 11 with relative ease. The system it was installed on was high end, and the operating system was Vista Ultimate. The program backed up 33 gigabytes in under 20 minutes, and I was impressed, but all went ?down hill? from there. The computer back up was corrupt, I reformatted the drive three times trying to get a good copy of a backup. I then went online for tech support, at which time I spent over 45 minutes waiting for customer service rep, only to be told I was on a pre-sales customer service and there was no live support after the sales, but was given an e-mail address to submit questions. I submitted my questions with a detailed list of my current computer component along with technical specifics that were happening with the program. After 22 days I received a generic response with links to help information to Microsoft sites, I assume the letter was sent automatic, thus alleviating the need for a live person to respond to it, or even read it, and the links were utterly useless. The bottom line is there is no customer service after the sale, but free live support before the sale. The Acronis home 11 is a program that does not run on vista, and considered in my option a low end product with no customer support and would rate it a 0 across the board.

Doesn't work with many modern (e.g., SATA) drives

Pros: Great, easy to use

Cons: Won't work with modern drives/computers in recovery

Review: struggling with Disk Director and True Image on new computers (especially any with SATA drives), when booting from the Recovery Disk, I've found a solution to this problem.

Note: The problem does NOT occur when you're using these products under Windows. But, when you have to recover a corrupted system, you HAVE to use the "Recovery Media," and that virtually always fails with new HP and Dell systems released over the past year.

The solution is simple: BUY PARAGON's SOLUTION. I just tested (and then bought) products from http://www.paragon-software.com/ and, lo-and-behold, THEY WORK!

Acronis has been my favorite company for these products for three years, and I've spent more than $10,000 on Acronis products for me and for my clients. For the past year, Acronis has been failing to upgrade or repair their products, always insisting that their customers have to do all their debugging for them with complex, time-consuming procedures. And, recently, Acronis sent out marketing questionnaires about new products they plan to offer. But, I won't buy more Acronis product until this company SUPPORTS AND PROVIDES UPDATES TO LONG-OBSOLETE PRODUCTS.

Stay FAR away from True Image 10!!

Pros: Installaltion part works :)

Cons: But nothing else about True Image does...

Review: Buyer beware! Acronis has to be one of the worst run software companies that exist today. They take your money and then tell you to take a flying you know what when you call for support. This program SIMPLY DOES NOT WORK. Shame on CNET for selling out its readers just to make a quick buck from these rip-off artist. How can you CNET give this (and virtualy every program you rate) an 8.0. SHAME-SHAME-SHAME.

Give this company a wide berth

Pros: It looks good on paper.

Cons: Didn't work- No Support

Review: I couldn't find anyway to make the software overwrite it's own files. It's useless without that feature. It took several weeks for support to answer and they just said to get a later version. (Had no effect.)
The images that it made could not be read.
This software is way too scary to rely on for backup even if you could get it working.

Too buggy, only works 80% of time

Pros: User-friendly

Cons: Fails 20% of time, doesn't do full backup

Review: I'm an exptensive comptuer user with BSEE, and seldom write reviews, but this program annoyed me enough to do so.

I'm abandoning Acronis and returning to EMC's Retrospect express. While Acronis has a nicer user interface, it only works maybe 80% of the time, while Retrospect works 99% of the time. I finally got tired of the anoying failure message I get in the morning about once or twice a week (I backup every night). It also never completes a selective backup of 230GB I set up on a 250GB harddrive to a 300GB external drive.

Goodbye Acronis. I would give it a 3, but the review average is 6 and that needs to come down. :)

Has quite a few advanced features

Pros: Very powerful

Cons: Quite expensive

Review: Maybe the most feature packed backup solution. Very powerful, but quire pricey too. Better search for a discount before buying. It's easy to find some good ones (20% off the price from http://www.lightsparkle.com/product_page-87.htm for example).

It finds all its own images 'corrupt' and un-restorable.

Pros: It lulls you into a nice illusion that you're protected.

Cons: It rejects all its own image files. Support is a Kafka-esque series of closed doors.

Review: It's easy to use, if you're doing backups without using them for what they're intended to do: read themselves and restore files.
I find that a year's worth of imaging files are now deemed by the Acronis Check utility to be corrupt. You're advised to email for support. You're advised they no longer take email requests for support. You're given an online form with roadblocks, eg, product pulldown that is blank, and a system that won't accept all the problem description, then. This worse than poor: it leaves you utterly unprotected. Beware!

Crap Shoot "Mark II"

Pros: Looks good when loaded

Cons: Did not work for me or the very slow e - Support .

Review: Suggested Reading: IT'S A CRAP SHOOT from Joe 101553. Reading this will save me rewriting the same story.
My advice to anybody looking for backup software is NORTON GHOST 10, it works. I have just switched to GHOST after struggling for months to get some results out of Acronis 8 full, 9 & 10 trial versions; also, GHOST comes with a 90 day money back guarantee.

Better than the others

Pros: easy to use and it works

Cons: none to date

Review: This is a gidesend after paying and trying to use Octane Software's Image Recovery. Avoid Octane like the plague-they will give you no back-up support and technical advice once you have their product. ACRONIS TRUE IMAGE has been a delight to use for a profssional image worker like me. Easy interface and they provide good technical support and advice within 24 hours. A PLUS !!

User Rating: 2/10

Not reliable.

Pros: Easy to use, works when it works, quick support.

Cons: Fails to work again and again.

Review: I have been using True Image since v6.0, because when it works, it works well. The trouble has been that I have to reinstall it every time I use it! I downloaded the latest version a while ago and made an image - no problem. Yesterday I tried to make another image, and True Image popped up an error message as soon as it went to work. So now I'll reinstall it AGAIN. It's a bit of a bother, to tell the truth. Acronis support tries to help, but is not very helpful. This is the third PC I've had True Image installed on, and nothing has changed.

Could never DL no help from Tech Support

Pros: Not one thing since I could never use the product

Cons: NOT ABLE TO DL AFTER I HAD PAID $$$$$

Review: Never able to DL. Have to Jump through hoops to get a refund. how can you trust a company who bases there buisness on internet DL then has known problems delivering the product????

AVOID THIS COMPANY

I Love It!

Pros: simple, intuitive

Cons: xp clones don't always boot

Review: Apparently you love this program, or hate it, I love it, I use it to mirror xp hard drives, as cheap as drives are now, the strategy that makes sense if you value your time and data is a second hard drive, that you mirror, with Acronis, easily and quickly, and with most bios of recent years you can change to boot off your slave drive and be up and running in seconds. Occasionally the slave won't boot the first time it is cloned and I have to install windows on it, just use the key off your master, and then it will clone and boot every time.

No support; restore failed; single use on purchase

Pros: NewEgg download easy, but now useless

Cons: Confusing interface; unuseable for laptop HD upgrade

Review: I will not buy a download from NewEgg again and will pass on Acronis' products. I am hardly a novice at all of this.
I bought and downloaded ATI 8 from NewEgg. Never again, as neither they nor Acronis can provide the serial number so I can use it on the machine I really need it for, which is NOT the machine I downloaded to. NewEgg was baffled by this simple request and Acronis had no interest in serving their customer.
After wasting days, trying to do a HD upgrade on my new laptop, through my network, then installing both 2.5" adapter-equipped HDs in a desktop, etc., I D/L'd a trial version of other software.
I AM DONE WITH NEWEGG AND ACRONIS.

There must be a better way.

Pros: See my comments below

Cons: See my comments below

Review: Based on user reviews for this product, it seems imaging software may be the wrong strategy to backup/restore files. A few months ago I added a secondary hard drive to my PC, with 120 gig. 7200rpm, Seagate, with a 5 year warranty. Installed it myself in 30 minutes - the first time I put anything in a box, in fact. With the software I determined what folders I wanted to keep backed up, only a few 100 MB worth. No system files or operating system files, just files I create or download, my web favorites list. Whenever I do a backup (I?m reminded once a week if I forget), it brings up a list of such files since the last time, that I?ve edited or added, then with the press of a button I can backup some or all of them. Takes a few seconds. What?s nice is that I don?t have to determine what?s new, or the location I?m backing up to, since that?s all predetermined at setup. Until now I?ve had to drag out equipment, media, and cables to do backups, but those days are over! Copying to an internal hard drive is also so much faster than anything else. This is the way to go.

Joke...right?

Pros: Unable to download trial

Cons: Did not buy it!

Review: I tried a few times to download this product. It took 2 hours and it downloaded 9 meg of the 38 and just stopped. Also, why would anyone buy a product from a company who has no support.
I see the same questions posted on the forum and the same dummy answers nothing. I am sure this company are idiots. A few good programers who once wrote software are probably long gone.
Updated
Lousy program. Burn 10 gig in over 2 hours. NOT! To speed things I made a backup to my hard drive . Then would copy to cd. However, it was unable to read the cds and that was that.
No tech support. No information on the website. Only a forum of jumbled posts.

Do not bother. There is not good backup software for home. This company, Acronis, is a joke.

This software will save your B__T

Pros: Fast recovery of crashed OS

Cons: Wish image verification happened automatically

Review: Acronis True Image has brought System recovery to the masses. Because it creates very large "Image" files of your drive, it is dependent on good hardware and drivers.
There have been some very buggy "Chip sets" for USB and Firewire drives, so the first time you create an image verify it will recover.

Also, when creating your rescue disk (CD) be aware Acronis (which loads a Linux OS) may not have drivers for newer USB or SATA hadware so...know your machine and check first.

The worst. I would give it a -0- if it were an option

Pros: nice colors on the package

Cons: zero tech support, horrible instructions

Review: The most incomprehensible and unrelia ble backup program I have ever seen.
Try Second Copy or Genie. I use both. Both have understandable directions and work well

User Rating: 1/10

poor product, poor support

Pros: poor supoor

Cons: no support, does not even come close to working, dont even try to update

Review: i purchased this producte and from day 1 was not able to create a backup image..support supplied me pages of suggestions to correct the problem.none worked..I i downloaded an updtate, and from then on Acronis would not even load, saying it could not find a valid serial number..no reply from support...just give me my money back and i'll move on to another product..don't even think of using this product.

Acronis True Image just works

Pros: Fast, Great Network and USB drive support

Cons: Doesn't do incremental backups

Review: I have used Norton Ghost for several years. After having numerous problems with USB and network drivers I started looking for something better. Drive Image 7 from PowerQuest (Now Symantec) fit the bill. It was fast, runs in Windows providing a hot backup and you can schedule backups. Unfortunately to restore an image you needed to use the CD that came with the program (Not always convenient) and it was slow to boot into the virtual windows. It had decent USB and network support but was not as easy as it should be. I then found Acronis. It provides hot backups in Windows has great USB and network support and to restore an image you can boot to a recovery CD or install the secure zone (A hidden partition that will let you boot to the recovery software by pushing F11 during boot)The boot time is lightning fast and the backup and restore functions are as fast as any other program I've used. This software just works. I've bought multiple copies of this program and had no problems with Dell and Compaq desktops and laptops, homebuilt machines etc. I hope they add incremental images along with direct CD/DVD writing in the future but for network backups this is the imaging software of choice.
Updated
I was reviewing the software and incremental backups are a feature of True Image. You get the choice of full or incremental images during a backup.

8.0 Worked . 9.0 Doesn't

Pros: 8.0 saved me when my laptop hard drive went bad

Cons: The 9.0 upgrade isn't reliable

Review: When you make an image, you want to KNOW it will work when you need it most. 8.0 did that for me, but didn't always "see" my external USB drive. If I restarted it several times, it would eventually see the USB drive. True Image 8.0 worked fine when I needed it and restored my Dell 8100 laptop from the image I'd made to the external USB drive.

I have an eMachine T3265 desktop also. I upgraded to True Image 9.0. It always "sees" my USB drive. I regularly made images to my second internal drive and the USB drive. I always run the Check Image function after I make an image. I only keep the ones that check OK.

I wanted to make my desktop a dual boot machine. I made a fresh image and checked it. It reported as OK.

I went ahead with my project, but when I ran into trouble, and couldn't boot my machine to any operating system, I decided to restore from my image using the Rescue disk using the image stored on my second internal drive.

True Image 9.0 build 2277 image file was CORRUPT. That's all the info the program provided. I was screwed! I restored my drive by reinstalling the O/S from the OEM disks, which reformats the entire disk. I was able to recover many files from the corrupt image by restoring files and directories a few at a time. I also had copied many critical files and downloaded applications to CDs.

After my machine was running again, I reinstalled True Image 9.0 and checked other images (some made with 8.0) that I'd made and they ALL reported as CORRUPT.

I wrote to Acronis support and told my tale. They asked me to run some tests.

Here's what I wrote back after running the tests as requested.

Case 1:
-Created new image from within Windows.
-Saved it to my C: drive (not the Acronis Secure Zone).
-Checked image from within Windows: Corrupt
-Checked image from bootable Rescue CD: Corrupt

Case 2:
-Attempted to create new image from bootable rescue CD on C: drive.
-Could not created image to C: drive. -Received message "Cannot create the backup archive file on the same partition which you are going to backup."
-So, I created an image on my internal second drive (D:).
-Checked image from bootable rescue CD: OK
-Checked image from within Windows: OK

Tech support replied:
"The problem is related to the hardware (a hard drive cable, or a hard drive, or a HD controller, or a RAM memory and so on). We can suggest you to test the computer in the nearest service center."

I ran SpinRite 6.0 on both internal drives. Both passed the tests multiple times with no errors. I ran the MS Windows Memory test. My 1GB of memory passed the extended suite of 11 tests 8 times without a single error.

There's nothing wrong with my system unless Acronis True Image 9.0 build 2302 (I kept trying the latest build) is better at finding problems with memory and disk drives than the tests I used.

If it is, Acronis should improve the diagnostic messages so users can know what to do. Then Acronis could market the product as a computer diagnostic as well.

I cannot fix what is not broken.

I have not tried restoring any system with True Image 9.0 image since. I don't trust True Image to save me when I need it.

I don't know if the Acronis Secure Zone works when you need it. I don't know if writing your image to CDs or DVDs works when you need it. I haven't gone back to True Image 8.0.

Save your important files the old-fashioned way by copying them off to other media. Know where you've put your application installation software and serial numbers.

When disaster strikes, you may be lucky and TrueImage will save you. If you aren't lucky, then you'll be able to save yourself the inconvenient way by reinstalling the O/S, downloading all the updates, reinstalling your applications, and restoring all your application data.

Use this program at your own risk. Always have a Plan B in case it fails you.
Updated
28 Mar 2006 -- Since I wrote my original comments, I've tried TI 9.0 Build 2337 and created a Rescue CD. I booted from the Rescue CD to successfully create an image to a second interenal hard drive and (later) to an external USB drive. I then tested the images by restoring them to a drive I'd bought for the purpose (80 Gbytes and $10.00 after rebates). I then booted from the 80 Gbyte drive. Everything worked fine. I created images and restored them by booting off the Rescue CD, and that's what I recommend. I did not test restoring from an image written to a SecureZone or images written to a CD/DVD. I did not test images written from Windows XP Home SP 2. I agree with others who report the tech support is poor.

Tips on how to get the best from Acronis True Image

Pros: Easy to use, reliable, feature rich, less bloated then Ghost

Cons: none.......

Review: Knowing how to use any software will always end in better result.

1. Always make your image backup to the hard drive first. Create a seperate partition for the Image files and all important files for that matter. I have five partitions and L drive is the one I use to store my images on. Make them no bigger then 4.3 gigs so they will fit on a dvd.

2. Using Nero to burn the .tib as a data file and use data verification. Just in case a virus hits the hard drive and damages the image files it's good to have a DVD backup.

3. Use only high quality media:
http://www.rima.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=R&Product_Code=1760-100&Category_Code=TAIYOYUDEN

That's it, follow those simple rules and you should have no problems.

DO NOT USE -- it will destroy your partition -- !!!

Pros: The ONLY thing that is good is the easy interface

Cons: If you do a restore it will IRREVOCABLY fragment your drive and WinXP will be UNABLE TO DEFRAG IT, EVER -- it is absolutely, totally, horrendously UNUSABLE -- and Acronis will do nothing.

Review: Summary: As of 11/20/2005, I have a brand new high-end notebook, the best, Windows XP Home and Professional (yes, both) with SP2 applied, and ALL the latest hardware drivers, etc... and Acronis TrueImage 8.0 also with latest update (build 937, Aug 2005) -- and while building my system I was forced to restore my C-drive from an ACRONIS full-image backup -- and every single backup, when restored, totally, totally, totally fragmented my partition beyond repair -- I had red-bars all over the place, Windows kept telling me I needed to defrag, but Windows was unable to do the defrag -- and now my system is totally hosed and useless.

Not once, but 8 times -- using 8 different backups -- that had been taken at different stages while first installing XP PRO, and my software, and then a second set backups taken while installing XP HOME...

EVERY SINGLE TIME -- I HAD A PERFECT SYSTEM WITH ZERO (0) DEFRAGMENTATION -- A PAGEFILE.SYS EXACTLY THE WAY I WANTED IT -- AND EVERY SINGLE TIME, WHEN I RESTORED THE BACKUP IT TOTALLY HOSED MY SYSTEM WITH DEF RAGGED FILES AND FOLDERS THAT WINDOWS WAS UNABLE TO DEFRAG.

The fuller store:
I started with a brand new system and methodically started installing XP PRO, with ALL the updated, and my software, and I had everything perfect along the way -- ZERO FRAGMENTATION, etc, and I took a series of 4 full-image backups of my 'C' drive using ACRONIS TI 8.0-937.

And then I decided to do an experiment -- before I went any further -- and I did a RESTORE of the last backup -- AND IT TOTALLY HOSED MY DRIVE, RESTORING A PERFECTLY CLEAN PARTITION WITH FRAGMENTED FILES TAHT COULD NOT BE DEFRAGGED -- AND IT EVEN MOVED THE PAGEFILE.SYS TO ANOTHR LOCATION !

So I tried restoring all 4 of my backups -- and every single one hosed up my C drive.

Then, since the system was USELESS -- I decided to do it ALL OVER AGAIN, except that this time I installed XP HOME -- same thing, a methodical and careful [process of installing everything cleanly -- with no fragmentation -- and taking occasional full-image backups along the way -- and then I did the same thing, I did an experimental RESTORE and it HOSED up my drive again -- and I went through all of those backups and every timeI did a restore my drive was hosed up and fragmented all over the place and windows was unable to defrag it.

That's 8 backups -- and they were all useless.

Acronis is the must useless piece of junk on the market.

Do not use it.

Great Product

Pros: Works as advertised. Have had no problems.

Cons: Needs more flexibility in searching for backup files

Review: Have done both complete backup and restores as well as partial restores. Works as advertised every time. There have been no problems with bugs yet on and AMD64 system with XP SP2.
The only problem I have had is that USB drives sometimes do not show up when browsing for backup files. They will show up if you specify the drive letter to look for.
Updated
Per Acronis email support, Acronis does not support Windows XP for 64 bit at all. I am also having problems running Acronis on normal Windows XP Professional on an AMD X64 system. So if you own an X64 system, forget Acronis.

Often produces corrupt backup images

Pros: Easy to use

Cons: Often produces corrupt backup images. Not reliable.

Review: I've used Acronis True Image from version 7 to 9 and when it makes a non-corrupt image it's great. The problem is that many users, myself included, experience corrupt images. If you visit the help forum for Acronis you will note that this software is extremely buggy, and always has been for many (visit the Wilders Security Forum for True Image by going to the Acronis web site and check for yourself). I wish that professional reviewers, like ZDnet would check these things out and report them too. I always read these glowing reviews, when in fact they really don't "paint the whole picture" for buyers. I just wish they would report the bad with the good so folks could make an informed decision before they buy.

Backup Files From a Crashed System!

Pros: Works as advertised!

Cons: Doesn't restore original file time-stamps when using File Selection backup

Review: My wife's laptop's Hard Drive died. The boot sector went south and she didn't have any backups of her data.

True Image created a Bootable CD with their own OS that can read USB drives, FAT, FAT32 and NTFS. I was able to backup all the necessary files to a USB drive without using Windows. Very Cool Stuff!

Well worth the price!

Can't load software

Pros: Wonderful reviews

Cons: Product code necessary for installation isn't accepted

Review: Beware if you have any troubles - no way to get in touch with the company, SilverLine Software. They don't provide a phone number, and my email to the address listed in the manual was returned as undeliverable. No support for this product on their website.

a geek product

Pros: loads easily

Cons: impossible manual

Review: This is a product you can do without. If you want to backup your hard drive, you will never find the term or the instructions in the package. Give me a simple backup system which says, backup hard drive, none of this image copy or new hard drive stuff. this people are marketing to the pros, forget it if you are an amateur. when i e mailed them for help, the email was returned, no such address.

Good to backup - but unable to restore

Pros: fast backup

Cons: DID NOT restore using the included LINUX

Review: I purchased TI 8.0.
I backed the WINHome-C-partition of my notebook to a file on a Firewire-HD.
I created a Restore-CD (=Linux) using the app. function of TI.
I tried to restore the saved Image but all tries failed - Linux never startet (the keyboard never has been freed to issue any command - I never saw a menu. So I know no way to use my backup-file.
I returned the program to the distributor.

ALL BACKUP IMAGES WERE "CORRUPT"

Pros: BABY LEVEL WIZARDS ARE IDEAL FOR NEWBIES

Cons: TOOK 3 WEEKS TO GET TECH SUPPORT REPLY TO MORE THAN A DOZEN EMAIL REQUESTS

Review: CANT UNDERSTAND HOW IT EVER GOT A GOOD REVIEW. I INSTALLED/UN-INSTALLED SIX TIMES - NEVER GOT EVEN ONE SINGLE NON-CORRUPT IMAGE. I EVEN RE-INSTALLED WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL. STILL "CORRUPT IMAGES". THE TIME SPENT BACKING UP, AND TESTING FOR THREE WEEKS WAS A FIASCO. AND CUSTOMER SUPPORT IS AVAILABLE ONLY AT AN ONLINE BULLETIN BOARD THAT IS USELESS BECAUSE IT IS NOT SYSTEMATICALLY ORGANIZED AND DOES NOT PROVIDE ANY ANSWERS TO ANY SPECIFIC QUESTION. MIGHT AS WELL SEARCH THE ENCYCLOPEDIA BRITTANICA - AT LEAST THAT IS ALPHABETICAL. THE MALFUNCTIONING PROGRAM, PLUS THE LUDICROUS ONLINE BULLETIN BOARD, PLUS THE UNFORGIVEABLE WASTE OF MY TIME, PLUS THE THREE WEEK WAIT TO RECEIVE AN EMAIL REPLY -MAKES TRUE IMAGE THE ABSOLUTELY WORST EXPERIENCE I EVER HAD - IN 21 YEARS OF USING A COMPUTER (SINCE MY FIRST IBM XT, IN 1984.

Simple, intutive, few surprises. Great Wizards

Pros: Handles FAT, NTFS, ReiserFS and EXT2/3 partitions, makes "incremental" images

Cons: Must have Windows machine or dual boot setup to installation.

Review: Once purchased, downloaded and installed into a windows environment, TruImage will create a portable, bootable CD-ROM that fully supports most common Linux disk formats. This is great, unless you don't have the Windows machine to create the portatble boot medium.

Perhaps the retail box version is bootable from the distribution medium and does not have this problem.

Otherwise, the product is first-rate. I used the 15-day evaluation version to...ah, evaluate..very handy. No functional problems noted through multiple restore/backup tests. Handles restore to same drive, network drive, removable media, replacement (bare) drive and multiple machine deployment.

It's great for people supporting both Windows and Linux machines.

I love this miraculous product and I recommend using it to everyone.

Pros: easy of use, reliability

Cons: does not directly write to DVDs

Review: I even cannot tell you how happy I am with Acronis True Image 8.0! It saved my life!!! I used the product to make an image of my office computer with VERY important data on it. I put that image on 3 CDs. Yesterday, I came to my office and at the attempt to boot my computer, I got an error message and it simply refused to boot. So I took the recovery CD of Acronis True Image 8.0 and my 3 CDs with the image. It took me less then two hours to restore ALL my system. I just pressed several buttons and waited a bit doing some other tasks, while Acronis True Image 8.0 restored my system (I only had to insert the CDs). It prevented me from the fuss of manually re-installing the operating system, all the applications, settings and so on and it saved very precious information that I kept on my computer. I love this miraculous product and I recommend using it to everyone.

Perfect 10 (so far)

Pros: Easy and straightforward

Cons: None so far

Review: I echo kwb?s review. I want to be sure everyone knows this - windows system restore is useless as it constantly overwrites saved backups. The ntbackup.exe works well except it does not backup or restore any open files. Norton Ghost has been my choice so far but, on my new laptop, it simply hung at the DOS boot screen. I sent an email to Symantec five days ago. Still waiting for their reply.
I could not wait any longer. Based on reviews here, I downloaded the True Image. I did not trust it to backup everything with windows running, so I used its boot CD, made a backup of partition C on another partition of my HD, copied in to a DVD and restored from DVD using the boot CD. The entire process went like a charm, no dumb error messages about not finding the DVD drive etc. as I have seen in the past. If this software continues to work this way then, this is the way to go. I recommend it to anyone who does not want to reinstall windows as many times as I have, before I started using Ghost.
Normally, I restore the C drive every few months before doing major updates. With the speed of true image, I may just do it more often. It is easy, just keep all your documents and data on partitions other than C. I even set all the temporary files to a separate 2GB partition.

Worked well for me

Pros: Price, effectiveness

Cons: I haven't found any yet

Review: I have struggled to develop an effective, effortless back-up strategy for my personal computers for years. I've used Ghost 2002 in the past with Windows 98 SE and XP Home, and it has been a struggle. I decided to replace the HDD in my laptop, and the easiest way for me with the available hardware was to image the old HDD to an external HDD connected by firewire, and then place the new HDD into my laptop and write from the external HDD back to the new HDD. True Image did this all effortlessly. I don't mind having to wade through DOS if I have to, but this was just so easy and it worked well with no errors. And on top of everything else, a download cost only $29.99 at Newegg.com. I'll write another review when I see how it works for routine backups.

Great program, ZERO tech support

Pros: Works quickly, and well.

Cons: No tech support.

Review: Not for the beginner. A great backup utility. No tech support via e-mail (undeliverable) or fax. I had to remove and reinstall the program in order to perform a new full disc backup.

Dependable backups directly to DVD-RW media

Pros: Very user friendly interface; easy to create and verify disk image

Cons: Requires INCD or comparable DVD burning support program running in the background

Review: Some people swear by Norton Ghost, but it just would not work on my system. I wasted many long hours being frustrated by Norton Ghost's inability to complete a backup of my system onto DVD-RW media. I finally did some research and purchased Acronis True Image 8.0 from a local CompUSA for $39.99.

My first try with Acronis True Image was also disappointing because, like Norton Ghost, it failed to write to my DVD burner. After some reading in the Acronis on-line forum I found the secret: Nero users (like me) must have INCD running in the background.

Once I started INCD it worked like a charm. It even initializes the DVD-RW media at the beginning of the backup process--pretty cool! And verifying the saved image on the DVD-RW media was easy and took MUCH less time and trouble than Norton Ghost. I highly recommend this product, especially over Norton Ghost.

It has done a job for me despite all the opinions here

Pros: Easy to navigate and use

Cons: I have not noticed any yet

Review: I am 75 years old and know almost nothing about computers. However my desktop began to produce strange sounds like knocking. My son told me that my hard disk is dying and I urgently need to transfer all my system to another drive. He could not explain me everything by phone due to time shortage but said something about Acronis.

Ok. I searched Google for Acronis and found their web site. A nice chat operator advised me to use Acronis True Image to perform what I needed. So I downloaded this software.

My son purchased a new hard drive which is almost the same as my previous one but larger. I plugged both drives to my PC and ran True Image, rebooted, disconnected the source drive and got everything on a new one.

As the result I am running my upgraded computer as nothing has happened at all.

Creates Corrupted Images and gives success!

Pros: What pros? This software doesn't even works to begin with

Cons: Fails to create good image, even pre-boot mode creates corrupted image, Cannot create images in RAW sector mode, does not works with GoBack

Review: I don't think when CNET reviewed this software they actually checked if the image they created was good. The software creates images faster than Norton Ghost. So what?

Guess what? When you do the "Image integrity check" it fails. Even in CD boot mode image creation gives success and check gives fail.

What's going on? If the image is corrupted the creation should not give a success.

I am a pretty technical guy and I can identify a bad software. Maybe this works on some machines. But I know for a fact that this does not works on my machine and several others have complained about similar problems. See Acronis forums for details.

How can you trust a software for daily backups that says it succeeded but when you actually try to use the image it was all a lie? For reliability, I would say its worse than having nothing on your computer. Atleast you know your data is unprotected and will be vigilant.

Further after I purchased, I contacted Acronis support and did everything they wanted me to do. Nothing.
Worse they even refused to give me back my money because I purchased it elsewhere.
I had to file complaints with BBS. Lets see if I ever see that money back.

After this "fiasco" and enormous waste of time, not to mention reinstallation of _all_ my software twice, I went back to basics. Norton Ghost is slow, but it works. I have since then even restored the image without problems.

Absolutely dissatisfied with the product and the company that makes such products.

I am absolutely satisfied with this software

Pros: Nice and functional

Cons: Does not support 64bit systems yet

Review: I am a registered user of Acronis True Image for almost a half of a year. I must admit that I never regret purchasing this really useful and helpful utility. I do like its nice and clear interface, wizard-driven operations and blue WinXP-like window.
I feel really confident performing any action in this application despite of the fact I am still not a computer specialist.
Recently I was pleased with the fact that my new SATA drive has been correctly recognized by True Image even in rescue mode. I regularly download new software updates and communicate with Acronis Technical Support regarding all the question I dump.

Pros: Great Interface, great backup utility

Cons: Ruined my network

Review: Good program except it ruined my network once installed, after uninstalling network worked fine.

I must admit I never regret buying True Image!

Pros: Very functional

Cons: Does not support direct DVD-writing feature

Review: I was in need to upgrade to a bigger hard drive. I searched the net and found that Acronis Migrate Easy 7.0 can do what I wanted. I went to Acronis web site and chatted with a sales representative. Then I decided to purchase Acronis True Image 8.0 as it covers all the Migrate Easy functionality and also allows to regularly back my system up. Moreover it has a special Add New Disk wizard which prepares and formats a new hard disk.
I must admit I never regret buying True Image! I really liked "Explore Image" feature as i thelped me to recover some accidentally deleted files. I still have not tried to use "Restore Image" but hope I will never have a need to completely restore my system. Anyway, even such a case occurs, it is much more convenient then to separately install every piece of software I need.

not all that great

Pros: well layed out

Cons: lots of problems with the software

Review: I here all kinds of glowing reviews, but not from me.
1) First time use would not or could find my hard drives, needed to re-register three time & down load an improved driverer from them
2)tried to burn from the two of my burners, was given a "pop up" stating that my choice of media CD/DVD material would not work! Switch between TDK,Maxwell,and Memorex(CD & DVD)ALL with the same results. If Acronnis would offer me a refund I'd take it.

Positive opinion on Acronis

Pros: smart GUI & wide hardware support

Cons: does not write directly to DVDs

Review: I am really grateful to Acronis both for creating such a wonderful product and for supporting it with such excellent customer service.
I have purchased Acronis True Image 4 months ago. It worked flawlessly on my system both back up and restore. Then something happened to my system and True Image started reporting strange error messages so I could not even lanch the program. That was the reason why I had to contact Acronis Tech Support.
I think they went above and beyond what most folks at the help line would have done. True Image 8.0 and Acronis Support Team deserved my sincere appreciation and my outstanding appraisal of their efforts. In my opinion they deserve a well done for going the extra mile here.

Acronis bites the big one.

Pros: The packaging was nice.

Cons: True Image made my hard drive unbootable.

Review: Here's an informed opinion for you: don't buy True Image. I have a BS degree in computer science so I know what I'm talking about. This buggy software erased the MBR on my hard drive. Acronis support wasn't much help. They sent an email requesting I run a diagnostic program on True Image. This was impossible as my computer wouldn't boot. I ended up spending what little free time I have fixing the problem myself.

It's very rare that a piece of software does exactly the opposite of what the advertised claim is. What a dissappointment. Don't expect your money back from Acronis either. They offered to give me one of their other products in consolation. If I had such a bad experience with one of their packages, why would I use any of the others? I'm not a glutton for punishment. I passed it up.

As for Acronis, I wish them the worst of luck. These bad feelings wouldn't exist if, at the very least, they gave me my $50 back. I worked for that money. They didn't work for it. As a matter of fact, they cost me time and money and gave no reasonable compensation for the software I bought.

If you buy True Image, cross your fingers when you use it.

Buyer beware.

I am really impressed with its easiness

Pros: User-friendly interface

Cons: no support for Macs system

Review: I run my business at home. I use some special software and have a lot of important documents.
It is very essential for me to keep the system running and all the information to be backed up. However my little son likes to play computer games. Once he did something and the system crashed. I could not boot my Windows. I was really frightened with the strange errors it reported. Fortunately, I had Acronis backup and a bootable CD. However I was not familiar with a restore process and was in doubt if I manage to recover my system. Anyway, all I needed to do is to boot my computer from this CD and restore my system from a backup file.
I rebooted and got my system running back!

I rate the test recovery 100% sucessfull!

Pros: XP-like interface, fast recovery process

Cons: good hardware support

Review: I just wanted to let everybody know that I am VERY pleased with Acronis True
Image 8.0 backup (Disaster Recovery) product. I installed it on my Win
XP Pro box. I used it to backup its hard drive to an external (USB 2.0)
drive. I purchased another drive to put into another external box. Before I
placed it into the new external box, I decided to use the drive to simulate
a true Acronis True Image test. After booting from the recovery CD, I restored the data
saved on my first external drive box to the drive which was installed as a
partially formatted FAT32 drive as an internal drive.
I am very happy that the recovery went very well.
I had about 40 GIG on the drive when I backed it up. It took a little under
two hours to back it up. It took about two hours to recover the drive.
I rate the test recovery 100% sucessfull!
Nice Job!

I really liked this helpful software!

Pros: reliable, comfortable

Cons: is not designed for visual impaired users

Review: Just a short message to say Acronis True Image 8.0 is a great product.
I was "betrayed" recently by Symantec's SystemWorks 2005 which absolutely wrecked havoc on my notebook's hard drive.
Therefore, after being a dedicated "Norton" customer for 15 years, I will never again buy a Symantec product. After recovering from the fiasco, my (then 4 month old) 80 GB hard drive started behaving strangely, and this week started showing the signs of failing. When I went to my local Fry's Outpost, I was determined to find something other than Ghost to image it.
Well, thankfully I did see Acronis True Image 8.0 box after searching for a couple of minutes. I took quite a while (about 14 hours all-in-all) to image a new 80 GB hard drive but everything seems to work immediately. That's a big deal. You see, I have 4 operating systems on the drive, Win98, Windows 2k Pro, Windows XP Pro, and Red Hat Linux 9. So, I'm very pleased, and that is a very big deal of Acronis.
I tend to verbally reinforce my experiences with everyone, so Acronis should get quite a bit of "free" advertising out of this:) Thanks again to Acronis for a great product.

Test ATI summary

Pros: perfect hardware support

Cons: paid phone support option

Review: Last week I purchased Acronis True Image 8.0. I have tested it a lot and now I want to share my opinion regarding this software.
Basically, it all looks fine and dandy.

I had absolutely no problem both when booting from the Windows version and from the CD one, even in creating and restoring images from/to SATA drives. I was very pleased that all my SATA controllers are supported. My Logitech mouse also works fine when booting from the rescue CD.

Anyway, all in all, I am now very happy with Acronis True Image 8.0. I like the
incremental features, but need to play first.
Moreover, really great support!

Good stuff, great price - Wow!

Pros: Incredibly easy and straightforward to install/use

Cons: I just can't find any

Review: I'm sure glad I checked out CNET's review of Norton's Ghost before I bought it - I've become disallusioned with Symantec ove the past several years because their software acts so crazy sometimes, and I wasn't really interested in the constant "LiveUpdate" sessions required to keep Ghost running. The Acronis package works exactly as advertised, is easy to use and incredibly fast. Since Compaq was so thoughtful as to not provide NTBACKUP on my new desktop, I had to do something to get solid backups - True Image fits that bill. Unfortunately, CompUSA's price for the software was almost 10% higher than the $44 highest price listed in "where to buy" of the online review, but that's not Acronis' fault. Good, reliable, easy to use software, great price.

Symantec, Look out!

Pros: Interface is easy to navigate, recognized external USB drive

Cons: It took too long to come to market

Review: I've used every revision of Symantec Ghost and Drive Image for the last six years. Up to recently, Ghost had been my go to hard drive imaging application because it was easy enough to create images on other hard drives and CD/DVDs.
Recently I tried to create an image on a removeable USB 2.0 drive using Ghost. I tried for hours to get Ghost to work (using updated drivers) but it kept locking up my computer and it would not recognize my drive even though Windows recognized it with out any extra drivers.
I then purchased True Image 8.0, installed it, burned a recovery CD and in less than 5 minutes I was creating an image on my external USB drive!
The 3.5 gigabyte image took ten minutes to create and eleven minutes to restore on a similar computer. The performance was similar if not better than Ghost but True Image is much more flexible, easier to use and supports a greater range of hardware.
I have recommnded this program to friends of mine in the IT field, and to home users because it works right out of the box.
I give this prgram a 9 because I still have not used every feature.

I am confident with this very nice product!

Pros: Acronis Secure Zone

Cons: Too frequent update release

Review: I have begun a tryout of Acronis True Image 8.0. On the whole, it does have the serious,
sturdy "feel" one likes to get in a backup/recovery piece of software. It restores image of my c: in minutes, not hours. The program "feels" right and solid. I am confident with this very nice product!

Extremely buggy

Pros: Nice interface

Cons: Doesn't work as advertised

Review: It backs up an image to a hard drive fine. The problem comes when trying to restore:

1) When it reboots to restore from DOS mode it freezes.
2) Instead I tried to create a bootable CD - Problem - it won't write to my cd burner on either of 2 computers.
3) OK, instead I'll just boot from floppy, right? Wrong - after creating 7 'bootable' floppies and trying to booot from them it says 'non-system' disk.
4) OK, I'll just do the 'minimal boot' floppies. Wrong - These floppies freeze on boot.

The tech support forum is filled with people having all kinds of problems that tech support just can't solve. Avoid this product.

My investment in TrueImage has paid off!

Pros: Fedora Core 3 support

Cons: too easy to use

Review: My investment in TrueImage has paid off; totally without warning, my 80GB boot drive crashed and burned, to the extent that BIOS could not detect it was installed. Fortunately, Friday being the 1st of a new month, I had taken a complete image of it last night (dual-boot Windows XP Pro and Fedora Core 3). Within an hour, I had purchased and installed an identical drive and restored with no loss of data. Yes, it still lacks some 'gimme' features that would be nice to have, but unless I have a major disaster, onsite backup to NAS works fine for me.

User Rating: 9/10

Far better and simpler to use product than Ghost.

Pros: It works on my Laptops, desktop SATA drives, USB, booted from USB, did everything I tried well and fast.

Cons: Would like to incorporate partitioning etc into product and maybe a few more features like disk formating - can do this easily using other things though.

Review: My experience is that I wasted a lot of time with Ghost trying to get it to work on USB, systems without floppy drives, SATA drives etc... and trying to get around errors that Ghost threw eg stopping in the middle of an image with general exception or just aborts or int 13 errors. I installed Acronis in desperation (prepared to throw away $60) and to my delight Acronis worked first time on all the things that Ghost failed on. I only wish I had bought Acronis earlier and saved my time. Really disappointed in Ghost (and NISP from) Symantec. 9 out of 10 and I am hard to please.

Acronis True Image 8.0 is a 1st class piece of software

Pros: fast, easy and reliable

Cons: trial version does not allow to perform restore of the system partition

Review: This morning my system crashed and I couldn't boot into the operating system. I then inserted the bootable CD I made when I bought Acronis True Image 8.0, and booted into the program. That went perfectly. I selected the image I made on an internal hard drive for safe keeping and started the restore procedure. It took about 11 minutes to complete. I exited out and rebooted. The operating system came up perfectly. I was shocked, since I don't have much faith in backup programs. I want to tell that Acronis True Image 8.0 is a 1st class piece of software. It worked perfectly and saved my stuff!

Pros: Nothing pro, it didn't work.

Cons: Doesn't work, terrible support, no refunds from Acronis.

NTC - Not Too Cool

Pros: Very Pretty

Cons: Doesn't Format CDs/DVDs for you. Can anyone increment to an image? I can't. Can anyone create rescue media on CD and/or DVD? I can't.

Review: I installed this software on 2 PCs and one notebook. Used 3 different CD/DVD combos. All hardware is less than 2 years old. It just didn't work well. I did get a full image. I couldn't increment though. I couldn't create a rescue media to CD or DVD just 3 1/2" disk, yuck!! Don't know why the programmers couldn't figure out how to format a CD or DVD before starting a task. It's really annoying and sometimes doesn't work if you don't have formatted media. This company needs to compare to the leader (rhymes with boast) and get closer to that company's level before releasing. This was not ready for prime time. How much was the PC Mag rating worth? :)

It gave me the confidence!!

Pros: It is *very* easy to restore the system. Very responsive tech support.

Cons: Some moments were not clear enough from the manual, but I emailed tech support and they provided me with detailed instructions on what I need to do (and besides helped me with my OS problem).

Review: I'm a new user of True Image program. My network administrator recommended that I purchase it. We use Acronis Enterprise Image 8 for our datacenters in the office and that works like a charm.
I back up religiously: full backup every week and incremental every night.
2 weeks ago virus screwed my system and I restored it from the image - that was really easy and fast. The program is perfect: I am confident now.

Love Acronis True Image 8.0 - it works great!

Pros: intuitional WinXP -like interface

Cons: Only server versions support dynamic drives.

Review: Acronis True Image 8.0 worked flawlessly! I have heard horror stories about moving the entire hard drive to a new drive from others. I?ve tried to clone my hard drive to the new one with another cloning software ? no success. My computer hangs after this cloning and my system never boots up. Some time later I?ve found Acronis True Image 8.0. I?ve tried this new software and.... This was so easy and intuitive. The new drive works perfectly!!! I?m happy now ? my computer work and I?ve created image of my new drive to be sure I will not loose any data!

Great for nearly everything

Pros: Fast, clean, easy

Cons: no native DVD burning

Review: My only real gripe with this program is that it requires seperate packet-writing software such as Nero's InCD in order to image straight to a DVD-R. When this failed to work, images were made locally and burned with Nero instead.

So far, images and cloning have worked quickly and without incident. Support seems a little anemic but I haven't needed it for an incident yet, only for information diagnosing my DVD-R dilemma.

Not very helpful

Pros: Looks real good, but----

Cons: Poor Tech Support

Review: After (2) hrs. of downloading their update for
their 2005 software, it froze my system so I couldn't get on the internet. I had to uninstall this software to get my system to work again. When I emailed them-their reply-"Acronis has no concern with your problem". Guess this says it all for this company.

Good SolutionFor Mission Critical Servers

Pros: Easy to Use, Reliable

Cons: No PXE support, No Cluster Support

Review: This product is a great solution for mission critical servers (That arn't Clusters). Easy install and recovery. Works on all the RAID controllers I've tried it on. The great part is that you don't need to reboot to image. Better than Symantec LSR. When imaging with this I saw little increase in memory usage, Symatec kicks it up X 30%. Symantec LSR also makes you use there boot disc that come with the Retail Box. What if you need to make another?This allows you to. Symantec say's "keep your startup disc in a safe place"......YEAH RIGHT..Typical symantec.
This is half the price and a better, less cumbersome product.

Much better than Ghost

Pros: No problmes backing up on any media including peer to peer network

Cons: Doesn't tell you at what rate or speed the program is backing up or restoring.

Review: I have bought 2 versions of ghost and I was never able to back up on a peer to peer network. It was hard to find dos drivers and when I did find the dos nic drivers ghost still never saw my network. In addition there was a problem backing up to an external maxtor drive.

I did not encounter any problem with True Image. I love it. The instructions are very easy to understand and it's all in graphical user interface. What is also in graphical user interface with this program is the emergancy disk. You create it boot up with it, it has common sense intructions and yes It backed up my drive on another computer and better yet it was wireless. GOOD JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great program and fast

Pros: Interface is great and easy to restore

Cons: Lack of automatic verification, can't trust secure zone at all

Review: I have experienced many problems with secure zone which gives you incremental backups but have had many corrupt images. That part of the program is not trustworthy. So, if you want to get the reliability, schedule backups to where you can see them (backup drive) and schedule more than one (Monday Data, Tuesday Data, etc.). Then your odds of success are dramatically improved. It still beats all the other apps out there but needs to verify images after creation (at least give us this option during backup). I am well experienced with this program from my own use as that of my customers.

Image corruption problem; make sure you check it!

Pros: Easy to use

Cons: Unreliable, can't be trusted

Review: I purchased TrueImage v.8.0 based on rave reviews from PC Magazine and CNET. I wanted to replace Novastor InstantRecovery, which is no longer supported. I created an image with TrueImage, but when I ran the verification / check, it said the image was corrupt. I tried this several times, with the same result. This product is unreliable and a waste of money. The "reviewers" are doing a disservice to their readers. They should check the product thoroughly before recommending it.

I'TS A CRAP SHOOT!

Pros: None - The program did not work.

Cons: Imaginery tech support.

Review: Last year, after doing extensive research and comparissons, I decided to purchase this product to backup my desktop. Though it installed effortlessly, and was fairly straight-forward to use, the final result was a disaster. Upon checking the image backup file for reliability, the program informed me that I had a corrupt image file...hmmmmm. I deleted and re-created the file several times and took various other steps, but got the same result. That's when I decided to give-in to Acronis tech support...What tech support? The only recourse you have is to E-mail them - there is no phone contact. To cut through the chase, I spent 4 months doing this and the only remedy they had was to ask me to download the latest version, which apparently they release about every 2-3 weeks. And by the way, don't expect to get a timely response from Acronis. They averaged about 10 days to reply back to me each time. They never once questioned me about my hardware, software, operating system, or any other aspect of my system. I think their strategy is to hope you'll eventually give up and go away. Meanwhile my computer has gone essentially unprotected. I suspect this program may work on some computers but obviously not mine (an average Dell system)and I suspect others. I do wonder though, if those who think they have backup image protection with this product, realize they need to run the test to check it's reliability. They may be surprised at the result. The moral of the story...don't always believe the hype!

Can't trust this product

Pros: don't know

Cons: can't burn rescue CD's

Review: I downloaded the trial version and could not burn a rescue CD. Tech support's workaround "disable 3rd party burning software" did not work, and their suggestion about when to insert a blank CD caused the program to lock up. I went through the tedium of creating a set of seven rescue diskettes - the 6th disc was bad, and it made me start over.

I'm going to trust these people with my image backups? I DON'T THINK SO.

Suggestion to Acronis and all other software vendors: Hire American programmers and American tech support and insist on (and get) high-quality results.
