Pros I learned a valuable lesson
Cons Norton Ghost 9.0
Summary I bought this packaged with partition magic and although that program has worked just fine Norton Ghost is apparently quite worthless. I partitioned my main HDD trouble free and I decided to back up all my partitions. I backed them up (apparently) onto 14 DVD +R disks. Then I used something in the program called Backup Image Browser. This program then proceeded to inform me that all the disks are valid. So far so good. However I am aware that quite alot of programs available don't deliver. So I decided to test the program on my C: partition. No go nothing but errors. I searched the so called data base at norton. all of the remedies for my errors were irrelevant for they did not work. So I called "tech" support. This guy did nothing but regergitate the same info listed on the knowledge base. I then emailed symantec ( got a timely response) and the solution given there is just as worthless. BTW I am running a brand new system with NO other issues except for this program and given the state of difficulty it requires to obtain a refund for any kind of software---stay away. You've been informed.

Pros Only Packaging
Cons Too much to list
Summary Have spent days trying to get this work have finally given up and will return the thing to get my money back.
Setup: Dell 4300 Desktop & HP Laptop, Sony 530UL External DVD writer via USB
First problem: It wouldn't completely finish writing to the DVD and would eject it. After going through 9 Fuji DVD+Rs for the laptop hard-drive (30 GB in size), it finally crapped out with a message "Error E7D1001F, Unable to write to file"
Next Problem: Should have given it up now, but being a sucker for punishment, tried to backup the Dell. This time around, moved to Sony DVD-R discs, hoping that I'll have better luck. Well, the damn thing wouldn't even start the backup, kept ejecting the tray everytime I pushed it in with a new DVD-R disc.
Tried many combinations of the options (standard vs high compression), installing and NOT doing a live update.....had different outcomes each time, but none succesful.
Such a shame, Norton 2003 was great, except for the DOS bootup. I didn't even bother with a trial version assuming that this'll be a bigger/better version, but boy was I wrong. Last time with any Symantec/Norton product..
Oh yeah the email support sucks, absolutely unhelpful
Pros can image a system!!!!
Cons Crashes system, slow and cannot image a computer on the network
Summary I have never seen my computer crash in a long time - Norton Ghost 9.0 did it. There is such paltry documentation that i could not find anywhere how to image another computer on the network.... painful.. i have already re-installed it three times in three days.
Pros can be cheap
Cons You get what you pay for
Summary I'll be intersted to see how Symantec screws up VERITAS (or other way around) because this product is the old Drive Image from PowerQuest... and Symantec seems have messed up Drive Image... It didn't support my drives and even ough I got a live body via the phone support, They were the most polite and worthless tech support I've called in a long time.Updated
Now this is a product... fast and easy to use... I was apprehensive when I read some of the reviews but True Image came through... I'm going to standardize this on my Company... I see on Acronis.com they've got a console controlled version... I'm evaluating that product next.
Pros Are you kidding me ? NONE
Cons Everything; the design; the slowness; the bugs;
Summary I backed up two drives, one of 20 GB and the other 10 GB. It took 10 DVD-R disks. So far so good; Then I accidentally deleted a folder from my PC, and told my wife "Dont worry.. I was smart enough to back up everything; I brought out my set, started restore; I drilled down from the image file, and the !!!**$## software kept asking me for disks; I was not fazed, I told my wife who was admiringly watching me in action, that the software needs to build its indexes of the file location. Then it stopped asking for disks, and displayed the root drive with the + sign; I said "Aha" and drilled down.. That was 60 minutes ago, I am still swapping disks. 60 #$*$##&* minutes just popping disks into the drive to restore one folder.
This is not the first Norton/Symantec software that I am having trouble with. I faced problems with Antivirus, System works, Internet Security, and now this. I have made my decision, folks; NEVER A NORTON/SYMANTEC SOFTWARE AGAIN, EVER, NEVER, EVER...
