"Mini PC in Education"
Pros: More desk space, less heat, less noise
Cons: No front ports, not enough USB, to easy to steal
Summary: Being a Manager of a large Educational district in North America, we were very interested in the concept of a Mini PC. We were allowed to see the prototype and made comments regarding the USB ports, the location of all ports and the lack of a secure mounting system. We made some suggestions to address the shortcomings, including including a matching USB keyboard with a USB hub built as a short term soloution. We also suggested moving some of the ports to the front. In regards to securing the system, AOpen did create a innovative universal bracket that would replace most TFT monitor mounting bases. This mount provided a convient place to mount the Mini pc to the monitor and thus providing even more desk space for our students. The problem with the mounting system was that is was a snap in system. In public facilities these mini devices needs to be "bolted" down. We suggessted a simple and inexpensive fix to the concept, but the idea seems to have fallen on deaf ears. Overall we like the product but will not buy this for our eduation market until these issues are addressed. We are hoping the 3rd generation of the product has these new features included.

It's just as much (perhaps more) bang for your buck, has dock expandability, and can boot Windows if your education apps are OS-specific.
Not to mention it's prettier. -
try a mac mini? kensington locking port, its cheaper, matching apple keyboard/mouse, can run windows and mac, and has a minidock accessory for more ports.
done, done and done. -
I would suggest the use of 2 good quality hinged hasp and staple such as the Lockwood PA/23/160DP with 2 good quality padlocks as a way to lock these computers down. This can work at least as a deterrent against theft of these or other similar computers.
