Tablets with 10-inch screens offer an experience that is closer to a laptop than a smartphone. Web pages display at their natural size. Movies and games are more immersive. Apps can be designed without the constraints of the smartphone's pocket-size screen.
The Apple iPad is the best known among the 10-inch tablets, but there are an increasing amount of strong challengers to its throne.
Functionally, the iPad Air is nearly identical to last year’s model, offering only faster performance and better video chatting. But factor in design and aesthetics, and the iPad Air is on another planet. It’s the best full-size consumer tablet on the market.
The improved S Pen goes a long way to making this high-end tablet worth the extra cost, but if you're not sold on the stylus, it's easy to find a better deal.
Microsoft's subtly updated Windows 8.1 tablet feels more like Surface Pro 1.5 -- improved battery life and better accessories make it a worthwhile (albeit pricey) laptop replacement, but it's still not an iPad-level category killer.
