  • "LaCie creates Blu--ray discs but there are problems"

Pros: Can both record and play back Blu-ray discs (I'm using Windows 7 64 bit)
    No mechanical problems.
Comes with playback and record software

Cons: The Blu-Ray discs seem to require an abnormal amount of disk space. If I load a 350 MB AVI file, the program reports that this takes about 2.5 GB of disc space. This seems to defeat the purpose of a Blu-Ray system.

Recorded disks will not play back on a

Summary: I think this is going to work once I get some more experience with the operations.

Hi, in response to the file size. I could be wrong but I believe the problem is that your Blu-ray program needs to decode/decompress the AVI codec then re-encode/re-compress for the Blu-ray format which requires a MINIMUM Bit-Rate to operate resulting in a larger file.
