"Cheap for Good Reason"
Pros: Front slot for SD card. Acceptable, though not great, video quality in most modes including upconverted standard DVDs. Cheap for a Blu-ray player, but no longer in Best Buy's line up.
Cons: Slow, slow, slow loading when it comes to BDs. Dorky 1980s front-panel styling. No firmware updates available to resolve bugs. Marginal support from Insignia; none from manufacturer Funai.
Summary: Buggy firmware gets easily confused by some newer BDs and will, occasionally, selectively refuse to play one or more chapters in movies. This unit is made by Funai and sold under several brand names including Sylvania, Magnavox and others.
Avoid this BD player and ALL OTHER Insignia brand products like the Swine Flu. Spend some extra cash and go with a reputable brand like Samsung, LG, Sony or Panasonic.
My Insignia NS-BRDVD is on its way to the trash can after five months of use. Let's see. I paid $200 so that's about $40.00 a month. Does that sound cheap to you?
