"Only outputs 1080P with LG 71 inch Plasma"
Pros: Plays both Blu Ray and HD DVD in 1080i on all TVs
Cons: Only Outputs 1080P with ALG 71 inch Plasma, Expensive
Summary: If you own a plasma TV and want 1080P from this machine, you better have the LG 71 inch. Unit only outputs 1080P at 24 or 30 hz. The Panasonic TH-65PX600U which I own
only accepts 1080P at 60hz. There are no other plasmas TVs that accept 1080P 24 or 30hz, except LG's 71 inch. The menu on the unit has 1080P grayed out when it is hooked
up to my 65 inch Panasonic. I thought there
was something wrong and called both Panasonic and LG technical support. Technical support could not figure it out.
So LG told me to send it back for repair.
LG repair called me and said that it will
only work with the LG 1080P 71 inch plasma.
There are no other plasma TVs currently on
the market that it will work with.
Very misleading on LG's part. Box has 1080P
in big letters.

No sir, I believe you are dead wrong on that one.
Not only does every Pioneer Elite plasma accept natively a 24hz input, but will display it back at 72hz (24 x 3 =...Yep.) which is about as close to a native 24hz output as you'll ever get. Unless you have a Sharp LC52D92U, like myself! The Sharp can operate at 120hz. So what's 24 x 5? Yep. But wait, there's more! The new JVC can output 120hz as well. And there's a whole slew of LCD's and DLP's coming with this feature (Yes, the Mitsubishi rep at my store confirmed there will be 120hz DLP's in the near future.)
As for the 71" LG.. Yes, we have that on display and it shows off the LG Bluray/HDDVD hybrid off beautifully at 1080p. But there are many TV's that can take advantage of this player.
...And that being said, yeah this thing sucks at 1080p if you don't have a TV that knows what to do with a 24hz signal. -
While the comment made by the folks at LG may true about their product (the 71 inch plasma). It is not the only 1080P plasma on the market that can display 1080P/24. Either they didn't want anyone to know or they didn't know themselves, but the Pioneer Pro FHD1 can perform in this mode all day long. Now when comparing the price of their 71" and the 50" Pioneer, it should be an easy choice.

Thank you for making an excellent point and providing the correct objective proof instead of subjective (personal) opinion!
The more I findout about HD products the more corrupt/misleading it appears to get.
