"Not easier to scratch - sorry"

    by Andy4504 on June 16, 2006

    Pros: Networking a huge plus

Cons: No Dual video outputs for 3D projection etc.

Summary: With disc capacity increasing so much this year, it's surprising to see movies still being shot with single lens (2D cameras) Sure high def is great and I welcome it, but seriously, people wonder why no one goes to the theater anymore, it's pretty sad when you can get a better experience at home then in the theater.

Most of these new High Definition players coming out are little more then a PC with a Disk on key operating system and all the functionality stripped out.

Kudos to Pioneer for at least bringing some of the technology through, however I don't understand why these boxes aren?t more of a multi-function device (such as an HD recorder) with Network streaming to your PC and internet browser etc... They would cost little (if anything) more...

Why movies aren?t being shot with two camera's for 3D presentation in the theater is beyond me. Once this realization is met, and the process begins, playback at home could be done in either format with both "perspectives" stored on the disc. a simple dual projector with polar filters and silver screen would allow for 3D home videos, a simpler process of RGB processing could allow for lower quality red/blue glasses 3D, etc etc etc.. to long to get into but you know where I'm going....

thinner substrate does not mean easier to scratch, it means higher optical precision, so scratches do less damage if and when they occur.

They can't just put HD recording capabilities into Blu-Ray or HD DVD players because of copyright issues. If you could record HD TV broadcasts with their original 5.1 soundtracks, you could theoretically steal movies and TV shows in pristine condition from the studios. These would pop up all over the internet, and the studios would be out of business.
