"Disappointing performance and you don't even get dinner" on by BluRayBlues

Pros: What I liked was the cost and the digital audio output jacks and well as it seems to have loads of features such as Digital TrueHD, DTS-HD and PIP.

Cons: No 2.0 USB port like store advertisement said. Crappy at switching from 1st layer to 2nd layer on dual layer discs. If you don't select something it exits the setup menu after like 5 secs, makes start over. BD profile 1.1 requires an SD card.

Summary: Watched Dark Knight (BD disc) and Twister (BD disc) at 1080i using HDMI, EVERY 5 mins video portion stops for about 10 secs when it resumes, audio is going so you miss that part of movie. Manual says "normal" while player switches to 2nd layer of disc. So I switched the blu-ray disc to 720p resolution, still had the same problem. Switched to DVD movie at 480p and guess what??? Still had the same problem!!
It was like being at theater and having a steady stream of people walk infront of you blocking your entire vew of the movie each time they pass by, and changing seating doesn't do anything.
Pay the extra $30-$50 and get one that doesn't have this problem.

"Horribly frustrating! Do not purchase!" on by amaturetechy

Pros: It was so cheap we bought 2.

Cons: Unless you have a large screen the menu displays are difficult to read. After playing a disc the player has difficulty going back to Netflix. The display becomes like a digital scramble. Many restarts are required. Can't even play NF if a disc is in.

Summary: Do not buy this brand of player! It is cheap but that is where the benefits end. If you leave a disc in the player the Netflix will not play. The disc has to be ejected, the player turned off SEVERAL times, and then maybe you can get the Netflix to play. Periodically it forgets your network connection. We have fought with this player for 6 months. I assure you it is not operator error. My husband works with computers for a living, neither one of us can stand this device. It may be okay if you only want to use it for playing discs but the small font used on the menu is still an issue. It tends to be less unreliable if you never play a disc and only use it for Netflix, but it will still forget your connection periodically (like every other day or so). Sometimes it just stops in the middle of a movie with the message that it is re-buffering or that it can not find an internet connection.
This is, hands down, the most frustrating and disappointing piece of equipment we have ever purchased.

"Total rip off." on by loopsandsticks

    Pros: Nothing worth noting.

Cons: Player has no firmware upgrades. The company has no intentions of providing an upgrade. All the other bluray players on Insignia's website have upgrades avaialble except for this one. The player selectively plays certain discs while not others.

Summary: Not worth the hassle or the headache. Pay the extra $100 for a good and reliable brand. I regret purchasing this product.

"Cheap for Good Reason" on by comquest

Pros: Front slot for SD card. Acceptable, though not great, video quality in most modes including upconverted standard DVDs. Cheap for a Blu-ray player, but no longer in Best Buy's line up.

Cons: Slow, slow, slow loading when it comes to BDs. Dorky 1980s front-panel styling. No firmware updates available to resolve bugs. Marginal support from Insignia; none from manufacturer Funai.

Summary: Buggy firmware gets easily confused by some newer BDs and will, occasionally, selectively refuse to play one or more chapters in movies. This unit is made by Funai and sold under several brand names including Sylvania, Magnavox and others.

Avoid this BD player and ALL OTHER Insignia brand products like the Swine Flu. Spend some extra cash and go with a reputable brand like Samsung, LG, Sony or Panasonic.

My Insignia NS-BRDVD is on its way to the trash can after five months of use. Let's see. I paid $200 so that's about $40.00 a month. Does that sound cheap to you?

"Was good now, well, not so good and" on by burntpeanut

Pros: Auto set up was good, after that it was frustrating trying to connect to the internet. Why can't technology work for me, why do I have to work for it, even after paying cash for a product.

Cons: The player has an issue connecting and staying connected to the internet. Why can't insignia create a troubleshoot page to self diagnose. Almost every company that makes a product that is operated by modern technology; software and firmware can go to th

Summary: Best Buy - BAD.... Every time I go there or speak with them on the telephone I feel as though I'm taking a spanking. They get no stars....in fact they get a -1 star.
Insignia - BAD... I feel like I've wasted my money and time. I give it a 1 star it did last a year
    New Blu Ray - EXPENSIVE.
