"Excellent for Its Price!"4.5 starson by CraigRenner
Pros: + Price is right.
+ Blu-ray picture looks awesome if you can get the HDMI connection works
+ Internet connection works, but trying to search a video at Youtube is too troublesome using the tiny remote
Cons: - The player doesn't have last memory.
Summary: This is a nice BD player for its price.
You won't get a superb player full of everything you imagine. But it gets the job done pretty well, quickly and simply.
Bluray movies show perfectly. It coupled hassle-free with my Onkyo TX-SR507 receiver and my Hitachi 42" LC flat panel, getting 1080p quality at once. The BD530 transmits the original audio bitstream to the receiver, getting the mos out of the discs with DTS-MA HD Audio or Dolby-HD. Image quality is nice.
ON the DVD dept., it works and it effectively upscales and processes the image. It tends to oversharpen it somewhat, so I had to tweak the controls a bit to avoid increasing the artifacts number. With a low quality local original DVD (Peter Gabriel's Secret World Live) the noise was exacerbated with the BD530 upscale/sharpen process. Lowering it got back the original grainy picture I had on my Pioneer DVD.
I did not test it online yet.
The unit seems well built, it's not heavy nor light and looks good, despite the vintage looking segment character front LCD (like old calculators!). Front panel buttons are scarce and a little cumbersome but ok. Rear connectors are ok too. What's needed it's there. WHy more?
Overall, the LG BD530 is an excellent player for its price. There's no excuse not to enter the BD era.
