  • "Good enough!"
    on by digidavid1954

Pros Faster load times than others owned previous.

    Cons Sound is so so.

  • "Good value for the price."
    on by sbc-support

    Pros Video quality, Netflix steaming.

Cons * Remote control buttons and functions are poorly organized.

    * Does not have option to downmix discs encoded with DTS audio tracks.

Summary If you try to play a disc with only a DTS soundtrack and your A/V receiver has Dolby Digital but not DTS decoder, you will get no audio though the bitstream coax/optical outputs.

Apparently all LG players suffer from this limitation.

The Sony BlueRay players have a optional "DTS Downmix" setting to accommodate this.

  • "Blu-Ray works fine... online is speedy with Wireless N"
    on by JoeBearPA

Pros Nice size footprint... easy to use interface, Crisp picture, Easy setup. Video streaming is smooth...

Cons Although the Video streaming is good, the device won't render AVI files. Which many people have, so you have to convert or find a server like Serviio. This however needs an XML profile for it, and as a non-programmer I cannot make.

Summary The unit is an overall good buy... but if the files you want to stream from your PC are of an AVI format, you will have to convert them with something like "FormatFactory" or "Handbrake", or find out how to create a streaming, transcoding format for a PC media server like "Serviio" (Free, and the program comes able to stream from your PC, but transcoding requires an XML user made profile telling it HOW to transcode to a format the LG understands). Daunting in both circumstances. "Plex" is another such free program, but I have not been able to figure out how to get the LG to recognize it. On the Roku there is an App you can download but none I know of for the LG, or Serviio.

The LG App store is useless. It has things on it that MIGHT be interesting to some... Story books, and Korean Soap Opera.

I am a bit disappointed by the AVI situation... as it is a common format.

As Clarification... I meant I cannot CREATE such a profile... and as a note to AVI file... these are usually of XVid or Divx format. Those of you who encode file or know something about it will understand how popular these formats were\are
