"AVOID Magnavox and Funai" on by wehall894

Pros: Worked great for 3.5 months. Regular DVDs still look great.

Cons: After 3.5 Months, no longer played Blu-Rays. If I wanted a DVD player to simply upgrade current DVDs, I could have bought one for a lot cheaper.

Summary: We purchased this item for about $130 on a black friday sale in Nov. 28, 2008. It worked great until 8:15 PM on March 29, 2009. It stopped playing Blu-Rays. After e-mailing Funai, I received a reply with a customer service number. I called that number and they referred me to a local repair center. I was advised by this authorized repair center I would have to pay a MINIMUM of $45, just to have them look at. (REALLY! $45 on something that isn't 4 months old. What about the 1 year manufacturer's warranty? I am aware that I could have purchased an extended warranty from Wal-Mart, but most financial experts say they are unecessary upcharges designed to make more money for the stores. These experts say if you feel that you need the extended warranty, just put that money toward a better product. (I sure wish we did). That $130 could have gone towards a Sony that we will now buy. Based on the "durability" on a Magnavox product and the "great" customer service provided by Funai, I will avoid these products in the future. And I would advise others to do the same.

"Not Upgradeable as of yet" on by jfordorl

Pros: Great picture on my Sony HD LCD TV.

Cons: Called Funai consumer support about upgrades to the operating system. The Sylvania made by them has already hade one update issued for it, but to date none have been issued for the Magnavox. Bummer.

Summary: I think I will steer clear of Funai products in the future and go wth better brands even if they cost more. In general you get what you pay for.

"Poor Customer Service" on by johnnytsa

Pros: While it worked it was OK

Cons: After 3 months it no longer played blu ray discs.

Summary: Returned to Funai (manufacturer) for "Rapid Exchange". It has been 10 weeks and they can't tell me when a replacement will ship. There are plenty of these remanufactured units available for purchase from discount sites
