"Great picture & sound" on by cravnsn

    Pros: Features Quality

    Cons: So far so good

Summary: I’ve always enjoyed my home theater, and when I saw new HD formats coming out, I started doing my research. I was fortunate to come in at the tail end of the “format wars”, and now that Blu-ray has won, I’m very happy with my decision. I had been using a Samsung “up converting” DVD player, and the 1080i picture did make a difference, but not a big one. With this player, I experienced less color banding, better detail, a richer color pallet, better contrast…and that was with standard DVD’s. Blu-ray movies look great, but I am limited by an EDTV display. I’m sure with a 1080P display, the picture would be spectacular. I’ve read where other people are having issues playing music CD’s, saying they have to turn on the TV before they get sound. I have had no such issue. Indeed, the sound quality has also been improved greatly with this player. It’s plugged into an Onkyo TX-SR605 via an HDMI cable (http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=181-724) and all the surround formats & picture come through brilliantly. The player is picky when it comes to dirty Blu-ray discs, so give them a good cleaning first, and you will be rewarded with lush sound & picture.

"Awesome player" on by Randy Brodersen

    Pros: Plays everything

    Cons: None so far

Summary: I orginally bought the Sharp but it wouldn't play any DVD's that I burned myself so back it went. This player is awesome and has played everything I have thrown at it. Only reason I didn't give this unit a 10 is because of price.

"Love it! (From an HD-DVD convert)" on by glimmrmoon

Pros: Fantastic upscaling; ease of use

Cons: None yet (been a week)

Summary: I bought this after deciding I need to say Goodbye to my Toshiba HD-DVD player which I loved. I tried a Samsung hybrid machine but it played regular DVD's so badly I took it back and decided to go straight Blu-ray. This machine plays regular DVD's so brilliantly I was amazed. It's making my transition to blu-ray (oh the expense!) much much easier on me.
I have a 40-inch Samsung LCD TV and have not had a problem like other reviewers have mentioned. I hooked up the HDMI, plugged it in and boom there it was, crystal clear. Not a glitch. So don't be turned off by it if you own a Samsung TV.

"good player-but I've go an audio problem-help!!" on by dvickman

Pros: great picture and overall performance

Cons: high end audio capability not functioning

Summary: I own this player and the Onkyo TXSR705
receiver. I have not been able to get Dolby True HD or DTS master audio when it is available on the disk. Although my player is set to bitstream audio output, the
onkyo only recognizes it as PCM. I spoke to
panasonic and they confirmed that although the player is outputting bitstream, there is
something wrong with the signal where the receiver doesn't recognize it as such. The
tech support guy said a firmware update is coming out in a couple of months. Can anyone confirm this???
