Pros: Analog loss less audio option. Picture controls. Picture and sound quality. Vera link. On line support. Ease of use. Compact remote.
Cons: Only one zoom. Confusing wifi set up,(but easy pin setting). Aspect ratio control requires a menu. Control panel.
Summary: I had 2 Samsung BDC6500's and they had more bugs in them then a flea circus! I swapped them out for the Panny and it works just great. I didn't notice much difference in load times and the Panasonic's features like dialogue enhancement and picture clarity control are of better use to me, especially on older DVD's. The built in wifi which didn't connect as well as the out board dongle, and the BD live storage offered on my Samsung, were of no use to me. Most BD live content is a bunch of advertising and promotional marketing anyway. The reason why Panasonic is behind with some of these non essential features is because they are not in any rush to release firmware and features that may not work anyway. It's called quality control. After all, who needs the headache.

Pros: Outstanding picture quality. 7.1 Analog outs. Fine-tuning of 7.1 analog outs; setting audio delay times, for example.
Cons: Somewhat slow load times. When I stop a disk from playing and then push play, I get returned to the beginning of the disk, not where I left off.
Summary: I bought this player after my frustration with two different Samsung players (BD5500,BD6500) boiled over due to technical problems. The picture quality and audio output of this unit are outstanding. Comparing it to the two Samsung units I mentioned above, the Panasonic is a much more refined unit with excellent build quality. It is highly reliable and just plain works and works well. Yes, it might be lacking a few of the more advanced features of other players, and the chassis doesn't contain the aerodynamic contours that other manufacturer's players posses, but honestly I couldn't care less. What I want is a Blu-Ray player that plays Blu-Ray and DVD disks and streams Netflix movies. I'm not interested in DNLA compliancy or 3D right now. If that describes you, and you can't afford the OPPO BD-83, then the DMP-BD85K is the player you want.

Pros: Based on other reviews, I got the DMP-BD85K and couldn't be happier. The sound is fantastic and the picture is crisp HD. Unlike what cnet and others have said, mine HAS Pandora and a few other applications.
Cons: Entering in user names and passwords hearkens back to the days when text messages had to be written on a numbers-only keypad. Yes, that is the worst thing I can say about this machine.
Summary: Bang for buck is perfect for a first-time Blu-ray owner.

Pros: Has an even better picture than my last Panasonic player.
Cons: None as far as I am concerned. I didn't buy this to stream stuff at lower resolutions!
Summary: With the newer chip, and the inclusion of 4:4:4 processing, this unit has excellent picture quality. Having used both the DMP-BD10 and the DMP-BD55, this was a step up. Still easy to operate. Although, comparing it to a player twice the price (OPPO BDP-83), is a little of the apples and oranges thing.

Audio reformatting (if enabled) of DD, DD+, TrueHD 5.1 to 7.1
DTS (all formats) speaker remapping from 5.1 and 6.1 to 7.1Cons: User interface needs major overhaul
Remote is lacking sophistication
Bluray start-up time is only somewhat improvedSummary: This player has it in spades where it counts. I dont use the BD-Live features nor the streaming services and cant really comment on that. I was used to the interface on the DMP-BD55 and this one is, at least, no worse.....but certainly not improved which is ridiculous. Audio reformatting is essential if you like all your speakers firing on a 7.1 system.
Had I not a rack plate already cut for the 55 which the 85 fit perfectly and had the Crestron, LAN, etc not recognized the 85 I might have considered something else......but it would be a very tough sell given how great the Panny performs otherwise.
