"This Blu ray Player ROCKS! Its the best of its class!"
on by CharlesNNCPros Picture quality is superb,
Menus look pretty good and are easy to navigate,
Loads fast and works well,
Remote is simple and easy to use,
Netflix works good.Cons No cooling fan.
Summary Before I purchased this Panasonic DMP-BDT220 WiFi Blu-Ray DVD Player, I had researched virtually every player available on the market. There's a lot to pick from, but I wanted to find the player that had the best all-around features, and a great price that would fit my budget. And after looking at a dozen or so different players, I concluded that this Panasonic player was the best pick in its price range. Other players, have various other options, a varied amount of output connections, and may specify on-board memory configurations, etc. While this player does not specify the memory amount, it appears to be sufficient enough to load streaming media (such as Netflix, Amazon Video or Hulu Plus and play it back without any hesitation or pauses.
After receiving the player, I hooked it up, and it worked perfectly right from the start. Found my WiFi network without any problems. I entered the security password information and it was connected to my WiFi network and my Internet connection in seconds. Even configured itself with connecting to my other devices and PCs on my network also without any problems. I did not have to enter any network address configurations or anything except for the router/network access password. I was able to instantly see the pictures and videos on my shared PCs on my home network.
I use this for my Netflix streaming and it works great with no problems at all. And there is no lag time between the apps selection under the Internet portion of the player, but that might be because I'm using this on a fairly high-speed 10/2 broadband connection.
I've also used several of the other Internet apps on the player, and they all worked great as well.
The Pros of this player is that it worked perfectly right out of the box, and it was a snap to setup, connect to the Internet through my WiFi network, and very easy to tell it to automatically download and update the firmware. This can also be done by downloading the firmware file from a computer and putting it on a CD-ROM or a flash drive, and then inserting that into the player, and the player will then see it, and automatically update the firmware.
The only Cons of this player, if one at all, would be that it lacks a second HDMI or Component HD connection on the back of the player, but for me, that wasn't a problem, as I connected this player, using the HDMI connection, directly to my HDTV. It does offer also an optical digital audio out connection, which I have connected to my Sony 7.1 Home Theater System, and it works perfectly. Blu-Ray movies look and sound GREAT!!
ALL IN ALL, I think this is a terrific WiFi Player from Panasonic and I think anyone would be very satisfied with this player. I know I am. And doing a lot of research before I purchased this did help in picking a very good player. I think it's the best WiFi Blu-Ray player in its price category.
P.S. for best price if you're will buy this Blu-Ray player, I suggest you have to compare prices before you decide at: *******************/Panasonic-DMP-BDT220

"CNET didn't test long enough"
on by gilliganjrPros It is a fine blu-ray player, and streams all of the services I like (Amazon, Vudu, Hulu+ and Netflix*)
Cons Netflix - do a search for "Panasonic and Netflix" and you will discover that Viera Connect (on TVs and Blu-Ray players) has had on-going problems with streaming Netflix.
Summary We bought this player in early May after CNET gave it their Editor's Choice (2012) award. In July, it was struggling to maintain wi-fi network connectivity. After working to get that restored, then Netflix still wouldn't stream. Ultimately, it took resetting the device to factory/memory defaults (using steps provided on the Panasonic support site for this player). Netflix works again (for now), but it was a hassle that I hope doesn't recur every 2.5 months.

"Great Blu-Ray Player"
on by vlok16Pros Plays all my BD's, which my SONY S350 could no longer do. WIFI setup is easy and works well, streaming services a great perk
Cons Have not found any yet
Summary This was purchased to replace my only 3 year old $300 S350 BD player that could not play newer discs due to lack of firmware support. Have not had a single issue since I bought this about a week ago. Playback has been perfect and startup times are more than acceptable. The fact that I can connect through WIFI for my Netflix streaming is just icing on the cake. Loving this player so far, would definitely recommed it, especially ath this price point. I do not have a 3D TV so I cannot comment on that and it does not interest me anyway, it would never be a tipping point for me. Go get this, you won't be disappointed.

"A quality product that almost meets my expectations."
on by johnnymac007Pros There were a few upgrades this player had over the previous model that I was interested in, additional file formats it now can handle either through USB, SD card or on disc and more formatting options for devices connected through USB plus more apps.
Cons USB and SD card file options are not completely the same which could be problematic. Would like even more file format options for music and video. I tried the simulated 3D effects on Avatar and it was unwatchable. Maybe it doesn't work on passive 3D.
Summary I've only had the Panasonic DMP-BDT220 a few days so I haven't fully explored it yet. I was waiting to buy it until CNET reviewed it, which they haven't done yet, but I found a few other reviews online which were very positive so I went for it. I like that I can connect an external HD through USB and access all my music, photo and video files. But what is new to me and has me excited is DLNA. I found out that my Dell computer has DLNA capability so I don't have to hook anything up to the player just stream my media files to it. Cool. With all the capabilities this player has I'm considering purchasing another one for my other HDTV and eliminating my "rip off" cable tv service. That would make me very happy. By the way, I'm using this with a Vizio 3D tv with passive
technology. It works well with the Vizio but I felt that the 3D effects weren't initially as good as the Vizio 3D Bluray player
I also have. Fortunately the Panasonic allows you to adjust some 3D effects and after some tweeking I'm pleased with the results. When I get the time to experiment it might even be better. -
"No issues in a year"
on by orionreplayPros Very easy to use.
Menus look great.
Amazon Prime works great.
Netflix good once in a movie or tv show.Cons Netflix menu interface is slow and tedious.
Customer support regarding Netflix menu interface is a joke.Summary I purchased this Blu Ray due to reviews last year at this time. It has run solid for the past year. To harp on the simplicity of the menu system, my then 4 year old, now 5 year old, can get to Netflix streaming and operate a disk without asking for any help. That tells you the ease of navigating. We have had no wireless issues as described by others reveiwers. I had no issues at all with the device.
I did contact to complain about the Netflix interface as it is amazingly slow to negotiate. One click turns into two clicks, because you think it didn't register the first click... only then several seconds later you are forced to sit through the two clicks, always ending up where you did not want to be.
Customer Service in this regard was laughable. We'd go round and round about the speed of my internet, connectivity, and even batteries in the remote. Once everything was done, they simply gave up. I simply got hung up on. I reverted to emails and never get a response.
It was strange. Very strange. Netflix works. But I find the interface to be very slow to move around on. It continues to be so. Life went on.
