"Outstanding picture and sound, Fast loading of Blu-ray" on by cestep6
Pros: Very fast loading time and easy configuring of audio and picture. I have it connected to a Elite 92TXH receiver via HDMI with a Sony XBR4 52 inch, Once i choose the sound, everything else is done for me. May be pricey but worth it.
Cons: Remote control not backlit. Also no internet connectivity.
Summary: This was a great purchase. For anyone that has a high end receiver, I advise you to compare blu-ray players. The Wolfson Audio and Jetter reduction are worth it. I have definitive 7.1 speakers and to watch Transformers and Indiana jones in true HD is like being in theater. If you're looking at players, test the sound of each one through a receiver that close matches what you're buying or already have. It makes a difference.
In my opinion, you get what you pay for. Both of these units are worth price if you want quality. -
"Pioneer Elite BDP-05FD, it has Elite for a reason" on by primopup
Pros: Quality, PQLS Jitter-Free Audio, PureCinema Deinterlacer, and Wolfson Audio DACs
Cons: No backlit Controller, no IP Network Capability.
Summary: I did a direct comparison with the 05FD player, and the two following players (Tishiba HDX-A2 - Denon DVD-3800BD) on a Kuro 111FD.
It was easy to see that the 05FD came out on top.
Now i am not sure if it was because i had them running through the Pioneer SC07 or not, but everything looked better on the 05FD, and i had all units covered, with 6 of my friends walking in when i told them too, to pick which looked better.
Pioneer needs to fix no Divx playback remark, because i have had it playing Divx with no issues at all.
I am starting to think that if your going to purchase Pioneer Elite products, you really benefit from keeping them all Pioneer Elite.

"Excellent quality all around, picture, sound, and build" on by cpacman1975
Pros: Faster laoding with new firmware updates, CD sound quality is the best I have heard, picture is adjustable form the bluray player to complement tv adjsutments, to give almost infinite adjustments
Cons: No firmware update for onboard decoding of Dolby HD Master Austio yet for 7.1 analog output
Summary: I bought the unit for the 7.1 analog outs, and my receiver is older, and lacks HDMI. I am still waiting for the firmware update to give onboard decoding so I can take full advantage of the unit. The firmware update is supposed to be available early 2009. CD sound quality is the best I have ever heard. The unit is fairly quick to load, almost as fast as the PS3, but the extra features make this unit well worth the money.

"Nice product in need of a little more polish...." on by soapman72
Pros: OUTSTANDING SD and HD picture. Numerous video adjustments and processing options. Onboard Dolby Digital Tru HD and DD Plus decoding.
Cons: Slow startup and disc recognition compared to much of the (less expensive) competition. Still no high-rez onboard decoding for DTS soundtracks.
Summary: As stated before if high fidelity picture for both DVD and Blu-ray is at the top of your priority list, then look no further. Just be prepared for some slightly longer power up and load times. Also, onboard decoding of high rez Dolby Digital and DTS soundtracks was a MAJOR selling point for me, but I am still waiting for a firmware update for DTS HD and DTS MAster decoding. It should be mentioned that current owners report performance inprovements on nearly every firmware upgrade. Hopefully the load times and slow startup will be noticeably shortened by the time the DTS master firmware comes out. Pioneer does have a track record for continuing to update firmware for devices no longer un production, leading me to believe they will tweak every last bit of speed and performance out of the hardware.
