  • "THE C6800 IS 99.9% IDENTICAL TO THE MORE COSTLY C-6900!"
    on by lrdecker1

Pros Good looks, small size, high expert and user ratings, 3-D, easy connection to my new 58" Samsung 7000 series plasma TV, full set of 7.1 analog audio outputs (since my receiver doesn't have HDMI connections).

Cons None yet - I'll provide a full review after I've used the player for at least a ew weeks

Summary After extensive online and instore shopping I've come to some conclusions about the C6800 and the C6900 models and about CNET testing, as follows:

The Players: These 2 units are almost the same size, almost look alike and have identical electronic specifications (as per Samsung). An online chat and call to Samsung failed to identify the difference(s). I then sent Samsung an email and they said the ONLY difference is the C6900 can stream from hula (and for only a $75 higher msrp)! Thus, I bought the C6800.

Further, I bleieve the bhe bum wrap on Samsung DVD players was initiated by other manufacturers and retailers who can't sell comparable features and quality for a comparable price! I've had lots of Samsung products going back many many years (including VCRs and DVD players and recorders), they have all worked extremely well and I've have never had any problem with any of them. I also just bought a Samsung 58" plasma 7000 series (that the C6800 will connect to) online and its doing extremely well. And, if I can find another great price on either the C6800 or C6900 blu-ray player I'll buy another one ASAP.

Now about CNET (and other firms) testing: In a CNET discussion about the gap between CNET and User ratings on Samsung DVD players I learned for the first time that CNET gets the units it will test by requesting them directly from the manufacturers! Although I believe CNET is technically competent in their testing, getting the units directly from the manufacturers has a huge and obvius problem - don't you think the manufacturers will hand pick the units by giving them an extremely thorough examination and testing before sending them to CNET? I have just the opposite concern with Consumer Reports - I don't believe they are as technically competent in testing electronics items but they go way out of their way to remain independent of the manufacturers including buying their test units in the same retail stores that I'll buying mine from! Although I also consult Audioholics and Sound & Vision websites for their expert opinions but I have no idea where they fall in regard to quality of testing and independence from manufacturers.

Bottom Line: DON'T HESITATE TO BUY SAMSUNG!!!

  • "Fantastic value"
    on by koufax1

Pros 7.1 analog out, Great SD dvd upconverting, Wireless right out of the box, Great user interface, Fantastic blu-ray picture quality. Fast,Fast Fast!

Cons Had to upgrade the firmware right out of the box. Should be better way in inputing wireless key for network.

Summary This is a great product for first time users and as an upgrade for serious movie lovers. A fun toy that works great and will keep any tech geek or everyday user happy for a long time to come. It is also possible to get it for a great price. (under 200 bucks!) If you are in the market for a new Blu ray player or you first one, put this on your short list.

  • "I have BDC6800/PN50C680 and they have worked very well!"
    on by rikE2iis

Pros Great HD--great colors--the need for calibration (any Big screen HDTV) is imparative in order to get great color and vivid pics.

Cons I knew this going in but it does put out heat! It's a plasma!!

Summary What I did (live in AZ) I converted my fireplace into an entertainment center with the help of a very small and quiet fan the heat goes up the flue. All my wires come down the flue and I plugged the top end of the chimney with insulation preventing heat/cold in and the heat dissapates into the 30+ft of flue or out into the attic. problem solved!

I do not work for sammie--I'm a disabled retired vet who is home bound and I researched for the best valued equpment and that's what I got.

  • "Faulty wireless-poor CS response"
    on by doug-tahoe

    Pros Easy setup, simple operation

Cons Wireless connection didn't work. 1 Pandora song-at most, 5 minutes of Netflix it would drop out. After ~5 hours with Customer Service who always told me it was my router or IP, numerous resets, router option changes, I finally took the unit to my sons a

Summary I have an identical unit at a different location that seems to work fine.

  • "Average: slow response & low quality user manual"
    on by cwr--2008

Pros Compact, many advertised features, and good price. Willing tech support people.

Cons Too long to set up: low quality user manual; tech support not knowledgeable. They look up info as you wait. Then give wrong answers.
Unit has faulty USB port. Samsung wants return at my expense & takes two weeks to repair or replace; poor policy.

Summary So far the performance is adequate, but I must see how the repair is handled before providing a complete report.
    Buyer beware!
