Pros Cheaper now. Actually does get me on Netflix.
Cons Would not have bought if had realized keyboard access wasn't possible. Entering a reasonable length password or searching for a movie by name is a tedious process of arrowing about as the remotes have no alphabet key equivalents.
Summary Obie Wan says this is not the set top box you're looking for. Plays Blu-Ray & DVD disks well enough. But loading of apps is so slow that sometimes you wonder if it has frozen up. No access to free Hulu. I can personally confirm all the preceding complaints, but lack of keyboard entry is the most annoying for me.
Pros Plays BR disks, looks cool and is shiny. Includes 2 free AAA batteries, so that saves you $5 right there. I bought it on sale!!!
Cons Unit is slow to respond, apps are slow to refresh and loose connection easily, netlix freezes often, ability to add outside apps is really limited. CNBC, BBC & Hulu are pre-loaded, which would be great if I cared about the Brits stocks.
Summary I bought this player because I have a Samsung tv and live in Austin so I thought I would keep my $ local (even though the parent company is not in TX). Read other peoples reviews, they're consistent. I read Amazon and Best Buy, but didn't listen and now I regret it! I thought my luck with electronics would carry me, but I bought the same junk that everyone else has. I would feel better about the processor speed if it gave me the old dial-up sound! The first week of owning the player, it performed an auto-update like it was Adobe (not that much, maybe 3-4 times, but you get the point). There's a good 2-5 second delay when you give the remote a command. Netflix freezes, or plays audio with a black screen without powering down. Pandora plays consistently, but is slow. Pandora doesn't have the best user screen, it automatically sorts your stations by date, so if you've got a couple dozen stations it gets annoying to constantly re-sort by Alpha. CNBC app looses connection when randomly updating stocks, you'll need to exit the app and open it back up. Hulu Plus requires $, you can't access regular Hulu like you can on the computer. Youtube is really slow when searching videos I haven't used BBC or the other couple apps. On the positive side, I bought the system primarily for pandora (so I didn't have to tether my phone to the stereo system) and for netflix. PS3 is better when it comes to netflix because it's fast and never once froze on me, BR is better than PS3 when it comes to Pandora. When I perform my hardware update with my hammer, I will not buy another Samsung BR player. That's my &.02
Pros Nice Picture
Plays a bunch of different file formats
Cons Smart Hub never worked can't get Netflix which was my primary reason for the purchase
Summary Buy the Panasonic that's what I'm going to do.
Pros Easy setup
Cons performance is terrible, product support is worse.
Summary The "Smart Hub" feature that holds the apps went down after 2 weeks and could not access Netflix or anything else. Their product support people just have you try the same things that are in the back of the manual and when that doesn't work, they say they will have a "tech specialist" call you. They never called back. Finally got them to admit that their system had "bugs" and they have no idea when it will be fixed. The unit is going back to the store and I will never buy a Samsung product again. If you're smart, you won't either
