Pros Played UP movie - picture and sound (optical connection to 5.1 Yamaha Rcvr) are great.
Cons CNET review shows DVD+R supported. Not so. I need DVD+R for slide shows. Based on CNET review, I bought BD-P1600. Manual says DVD+R is not supported and phone call to Samsung confirmed that they do not support DVD+R. Returning unit this afternoon.
Summary Picture and sound are great but can't keep unit since it doesn't support playing DVD+R discs and I have over 50 slide shows (vacation photos for last seven years) written to DVD+R discs. Didn't get to try the Netflix movie streaming but liked the clear instructions for making it work. This is a Monday, 11/16, update. I didn't return my BD-P1600 because it doesn't play DVD+R format discs (all my vacation slide shows). I decided to keep my Sony DVD player to play my slideshows. Both players are now connected to my TV.

I am network connected via cable. I updated my firmware via the front USB port. I'm very pleased with the performance of Netflix, Pandora, and YouTube. Blu-ray Instant Viewing via Netflix delivers an awesome HD quality video and the sound via my Yamaha receiver (optical connection) is great. My new rating for my BD-P1600 is now 4 Stars - not 2. It would be 5 stars if it had DVD+R support.
My first Blu-ray disc is the movie "UP" and I couldn't be more pleased with its video quality and sound on my Panasonic Plaza TV and Yamaha Receiver.
Pros This player was great in both quality and functionality. I loved the ability to stream netflix videos onto our LCD TV.
Cons Automatic firmware updates can break the entire player and require an estimated $100 in repair costs after the first three months are up. Samsung provides no other option for such a dicey setup in updating firmware.
Pros I personally like the slick design, comes with YouTube, Wireless Adapter and Netflix and TiVO compatible.
Cons Machine is buggy, reaction time from pressing a button on the remote to the machine performing that request is super slow, when FF-warding, it will suddenly slow down and picture will stop, unit shuts down automatically only some of the time.
Summary There HAVE to be better players out there
"A horrible product"on by yulsman
Pros Fine image quality ? when the player was working.
Cons When I tried updating the firmware, the player froze and now will not work at all. And the machine has been slow and balky ever since I bought it.
Summary Do yourself a favor and buy from another, more reliable manufacturer. I've never had problems with SONY or Panasonic products. In this case, I will not be repairing my Samsung player because it will cost almost as much to fix as to buy a decent Panasonic Blu-ray player.
Pros It was great to have Netflix and Pandora while it lasted.
Cons The first player only lasted two days. The second player lasted a while longer... until about 2 days after I allowed the firmware update over the network.
Summary I was perfectly happy with the player until the first one failed. I called customer support and they said the only option was to return it. I exchanged it at Best Buy, where I bought it, (thank you Best Buy for your easy exchange), only to have the second player fail after allowing the firmware update. I wish Samsung customer service had been as informative as the cnet customer reviews. I'll be sure to do my research here as I decide whether there is another model out there to buy after I return the Samsung. I won't be exchanging for another one with the same problem.
