  • "Stream Netflix with NETWORK WITH FIREWALL ENABLED????"
    4.0 stars
    on by Needfultoyz

Pros: see below for my question

Cons: See below for my question

Summary: I have not purchased this unit due to the fact that i have read on Neweggs site that one experienced computer user said that the wireless network would not connect to his router due to his firewall. The correct ports etc were enabled. SAMNSUNG told him the only way to connect is to TURN OFF FIREWALL. Turning off a firewall to stream Netflix movies is not acceptable. Not to loose security on your wireless network.
Has anybody else had this same problem? Please respond if you have

I have used this player for over a year and I watch Netflix with my firewall and I have no problem

Turning off FIrewall will NOT HELP! DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT! Read all the Cnet User Reviews as I should have done and you'll see everyone has the same problem. POOR to no tech support from Samsung, they tell everyone a different solution to the same problem. They are CLUELESS!

Disabling the firewall is usually not required in particular not for the firwall protecting from Internet access. However, enabled security features access your router wirelessly might become and issue if you have features installed like Hide your SSID, Filter MAC Network address and enable strong encryption WPA2-PSK. In my case I had to disable these features temporarily until the connection between the Player and the router had been established. After that I have enabled all features again and wireless access worked. However, their Wireless implementation does appear to have it's weaknesses. Perhaps a firmware upgrade (not yet available) will fix this in the futre
