"Great value for a first Blu-ray player"4.5 starson by msecour
Pros: Easy set-up, HDMI cable included. Beautiful playback of Blu-ray movies. Excellent upconversion of most DVDs.
Cons: Trouble getting correct picture ration on some older widescreen DVDs not enhanced for 16:9.
Summary: This is the warehouse club version of the Sony BD-350. I first played Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (Blu-ray) and the picture is stunning. I then played an old Clint Eastwood movie "Eiger Sanction" which had some troublesome moire effects in one complex desert scene when played back on my Panasonic DVD player/DVD recorder. The Sony Blu-ray player eliminated nearly all of this troublesome effect. I was impressed. I have found that on some older DVDs that are widescreen but not enhanced for 16:9 that I could fill the screen properly without some distortion of the picture. This is not a major issue for me since I still have the Pansonic DVD player connected and can use it as well. I bought this for 189.00 from Costco and I think it is a tremendous value. If it is important to you to have one player that will play all of your DVDs, you may need to shop further.
