"Good player, slow load, no wireless, overly expensive."3.0 starson by grosswh
Pros: Great picture; great sound; allows firmware updates by CD if you're not hardwired to the Internet.
Cons: Slow load, although it's better with the recent firmware update (4/11). No wireless. Relatively expensive for what you get ($220), vs. what other players can do for under $150.
Summary: Sony still sells this unit, so I thought I'd review it for those who might be thinking of buying it. I've had this player for a couple years, and I'm getting ready to replace it with a Panasonic BDT-210. Why? Primarily because if you play a standard DVD or music CD on this player, there's an annoying grinding sound as it struggles to read non-blu-ray disks. If you play the DVD movie or CD music quietly, the grinding can clearly be heard not just on loading, but while playing. Yet it's virtually silent for blu-ray disks. It's been this way since the day I bought it, so it's not wear-and-tear. Maybe other blu-ray players do that too. I don't know - the slow load speed, lack of wireless, and inexpensive alternatives, are sufficient reasons for me to get another player.
