Sony BDP-S570

Pros: Plays movies well

Cons: Recognized wireless connection; Internet failed; Sony tech support not helpful

Summary: This is the second sony s570 blu ray player I have tried to set up-- with the help of a techie friend (computer engineering major in college). The s570 plays movies beautifully, but forget getting it to obtain the internet if you have a dsl connection. Therefore, Netlix cannot be streamed. Sony tech support was not helpful--she seemed to be reading from a script. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, she told me that there was none available. In the end she told that she thought the software/firmware on the units I purchased at Best Buy was so old that the unit could not obtain the internet and I should update it. But since I cannot obtain the internet, how I am supposed to do that? Even wired to the router, the unit would not recoginize the internet and could not update. After much thinking, the tech support person offered to mail an update disk---but "it will take 7 - 14 days to get through our system and get to you.". Two players, hours of work, 2 calls to tech support, and now I have to wait 14 days for a mailed update disk? It is time to return the sony and buy an LG.

Well, it has been 16 days and the upgrade disc from Sony never arrived. Two more calls to tech support; I have manually entered the IP, and DNS numbers; still won't stream. Had the Internet connection checked and am getting a download speed of 4900 kbps. I really do give up. Sony has not been helpful and has not delivered as promised.
