Pros ok blu-ray player
Cons terrible wifi connection
Pros Bang for the Buck is great. Stylish, works with Netflix fine but I will admit the Wii plays them better. Trailer previews helps me decide which movies I want to see.
Cons Media Player portion is a bit lacking. File compatibility is shaky so I will be sticking to the Patriot Box Office for now.
Summary For the price it's well worth it.
Pros The number of wireless services it offered was great, that was why we originally chose this as well as the decent C-net review.
Cons Noisy to play discs.
Dropped signals when streaming & slow streaming.
Summary For basic disc play this machine is extremely noisy, even my cats thought it was something to chase. The wifi video streaming was frustratingly slow with multiple pauses. Not worth the money, better to upgrade or try another brand. Probably Panasonic, since the review seems to put it at the top of this price range.
"Didn't last long."on by HB61
Pros Didn't get a chance to evaluate the picture.
Cons Not sure, like I said it didn't last long.
Summary Only had it for four days. Stopped working all together. Wouldn't even power on. Had to send it back to
Sony because there was a disk of mine inside and Best Buy wouldn't attempt to remove it. Now I don't have a blu ray player or my disk as I'm waiting on Sony. No more Best Buy for me.
"Better than Samsung"on by nivek45
Pros Load time is above average.
Streaming works well, depending on your connection.
Menu/options are extensive.
Picture and sound are better than average.
Cons Remote is a bit lacking or basic.
Summary The performance of the Sony BDP-S580 is much better than my past top of their line Samsung Blu Ray player. Do Not Buy a Samsung Blu Ray player! Streaming seems to be the Achilles Heel of all Blu Ray players but I have had no problems with NetFlix or Pandora with this Sony. I would buy it again and recommend it to anyone.
