  • "Amazing sound - surprisingly simple"
    on by Retroburn

Pros Easy to use; great sound; integrated "prop-up" stand; very mobile

    Cons mono output

Summary I'm an audiophile. I was talked into this mono speaker by a salesperson at Staples and as I was checking out, I thought, "this is dumb - I'm going to be back here returning this in a week." I was very wrong. The first time I plugged this in, I was SOLD. This is a GREAT sounding speaker! I've listened to tons of music, streaming TV, action movies, and Skype with this speaker, and have never been disappointed, nor even thought, "I wish this was stereo!". Caveat: I use this with my HP mini netbook when travelling - and I don't think I would be AS happy with it for my daily-use desktop speaker. I don't know how Altec did this, but the depth and richness of this little speaker is amazing. I highly recommend it for mobile or impromptu speaker needs.

  • "i love this speaker!"

Pros Cost. - less than $30 for good sound quality from my laptop. (I believe I paid $25 on eBay.)
USB powered. Very convenient. No batteries and No power cord.
(IMHO) This was designed for a laptop (not a desktop) and does a very good job.

Cons None that I can find

Summary Great sound quality. I bought this for my online violin lessons and it did not disappoint me.
If you use the IML 237 for your laptop, you won't be disappointed.
If you are looking for decent sound desktop PC speakers (IMHO), you're better off with a corded 2 speaker system.

  • "Is it me? Sound just wasn't all that."
    on by GracieZG

Pros My husband LOVED that it was just one tiny little thing, and he hates cords, and he loves a clean desk. So this was perfect for him in that respect.

Cons I couldn't handle the sound at all. It just sounded tinny and somehow harsh. This one went back to the store and has been replaced by great sounding speakers at two-thirds the price.

Summary The sound in the speaker we got (maybe it was defective) was surprisingly disappointing for the price.
