The Bottom Line Simple to set up and able to provide ample throughput, Netgear's Powerline HD Ethernet Adapters are a great solution for anyone who wants the benefits of home networking but doesn't want to rewire the entire house or mess with Wi-Fi. Be forewarned, though: it's not an inexpensive solution. If you want to get the best data throughput speeds out of your home electrical wiring and don't mind the oversize design, the Netgear Powerline AV+ 500 Adapter XAV5501 would make an excellent buy. The WD Livewire Powerline AV Network Kit is arguably the best powerline adapter kit for homes to date. It's fast, comparatively affordable, and offers plenty of network ports. Attractive, affordable, and very fast, D-Link's PowerLine AV 500 Adapter Starter Kit DHP-501AV is one of the best available in its class. If you want to get the most data throughput speed out of your home electrical wiring, the TrendNet TPL-401E2K kit is the only choice on the market for now.
