"Wonderful product and performs as advertised. No problems!"

by tnamey on March 18, 2005

Pros: Can handle speeds faster than any DSP or Cable service available for home. Up to 10 mps. Bulletproof setup. No interference when set-up properly. Great for G3-iMacs, which all have ethernet!

Cons: Cannot be plugged into standard surge protector. Other protectors available to protect against power surges.

Summary: Great device which adds functionality to otherwise quite good "older machines," especially Apples. No encryption available, unless pluuged into an ethernet port on a wireless router or wired router.

I have a mixed environment: D-link modem and wireless "g" router. A Dell, an G5 MAC, an IBM laptop, and to older iMac G#s.

One quick question about the wall plugged wireless extender kit WBXB102.....do you just take the unit out of the box and plug it in the wall or do you have to do some configuration settings with the existing wireless modem? I use a Netgear WGT624 which I love....Im just afraid of messing up some existing settings. Please tell me all you have to do is take it out of the box and plug it in the wall. Thanks So Much

For a litle over a year I have used 2 of the XE102 as a way to connect my home office to my house, usually no big deal but in my case my office is in a separate building about 150' away from the house, with a wireless router on each end. True the speed between XE102s is slower then the wireless is capable of but its alot faster then nothing and is higher then residental Internet speeds and my tests agree with cNets labs expect 5~6mbps across the bridge. So if you are the unusual home user that really needs 54mbps make sure that the machines that require those interconnects aren't going over the bridge, but for 99% of users it doesn't make much difference.
