After months of testing, Firefox 3 (code name Gran Paradiso) is available for download from Mozilla. With its new Gekko 1.9 engine, the browser rocks, rendering pages faster and uses fewer system resources overall. As with any new browser, some add-ons created for Firefox 2 may not work, but give them time. Firefox 3 touts faster rendering, a vastly reduced use of system resources, and clever new data-mining tools for your bookmarks and browser history. Most notable is that Firefox 3 includes many security-related features baked right in, such as the best of breed antiphishing protection, making Firefox the most secure browser on the market today. If you haven't already tried Firefox, what are you waiting for? Firefox 3 remains our Editors' Choice over Microsoft Internet Explorer and Opera. See our slide show of Firefox 3's basic features, and its various security features.

Firefox 3 is free, and available on a variety of operating systems: Windows, Mac, and Linux. There are also a wide variety of localized language versions, including Basque and Byelorussian. Unlike IE 7, Firefox 3 does not require a system reboot.

The interface is the same in some places, but different in others. Placement of buttons hasn't changed, but the icons are new. Firefox 3 now provides a native look and feel (for example, the Linux version matches the Linux user interface), and smooth scrolling of open browser tabs. What will draw the eye are more icons near and within the address bar itself. A company logo, if available, will appear before the URL; after the URL there's the new one-click bookmark star and the familiar RSS icon. Other tweaks include those to the Password manager, Add-Ons manager, and Download manager.

Returning within Firefox 3 are several core features, such as Sessions Restore, built-in spell checking, integrated search, pop-up blocker, clear private data, and automated behind-the-scenes updates.

Most exciting among the brand new features is the improved rendering speed thanks to the new Gekko 1.9 engine. Firefox 3 passes the Acid2 Browser Test, along with Safari 3 and Opera 9. The test, designed by the Web Standards Project, is designed to encourage designers to follow HTML and CSS 2.0 specifications. Currently Internet Explorer 7 does not pass, but Microsoft says Internet Explorer 8 is expected to follow Web specifications.

The Gekko 1.9 rendering engine will, however, introduce some inconveniences. Firefox 3 will no longer support Windows 95, 98, and Me; the same with Mac OS X, versions 10.2 and earlier. There will also be numerous changes made to the Document Object Model (DOM) within Gekko 1.9 that will affect developers more than users. Also, there will be changes in the way Firefox renders frames within its display and the way object tags are handled, as well as changes in event threading.

For a user, the project known as Places is worthy of praise, as it creates a light database of history, bookmarks, and tags within the browser that can be searched, sorted, and organized. How you access the database gives rise to many new features within Firefox 3.

One obvious change is the Smart Location Bar (aka "awesome bar"). As you type in a URL, the awesome bar searches through your history and bookmarks and presents a drop-down list of recently accessed pages with that same keyword. It works even if you already know the URL. Some people have found it to be annoying, so there is a way to disable it requiring a small tweak to the about:config file. An Add-On further allows you to learn which of the search results you want to always be on top.

Immediately after the URL and just before the RSS icon is the new Star icon. Click it once to store the page's URL as a bookmark; click it twice to assign the bookmark to a new or existing folder. You can also give it tags: short keywords to help when searching through your bookmarks. Use the new Library feature to create and store searches.

Also new is Full Page Zoom. Unlike Opera, Firefox hides the Zoom feature within the View toolbar option and doesn't increment: just big or small. Hopefully Mozilla will refine this feature in Firefox 4.

Enhancements within Firefox 3 include changes to the Add-Ons manager. Now Firefox presents a list of popular Add-Ons without redirecting your browser to a Web page. From the manager you can install the recommended Add-Ons directly. There is still a link to the addons.mozilla.org page where you can find more than 5,000 add-ons written for Firefox.

Another enhancement is within the Download Manager. Mozilla has added search and improved the ability to start and resume downloads.

There are also numerous security features such as Malware and Phishing protection, Instant Web site ID, support for the Extended Validation Secure Socket Layer (EV SSL), enhancements to the Password manager, and greater security for Add-Ons.

For developers there are new Web-based content handlers, greater search engine keyword support, a new password manager, something called Extension Manager (EM), the beginnings of an intentity network, better integration with Mac OS X's look and feel, some offline applications support, and site specific preferences. There's also an early look at FUEL (Firefox User Extension Library), a JavaScript library designed to make it easier for extension developers by minimizing XPCOM formality and using more "modern" JavaScript ideas.

As for performance, Firefox 3 does significantly reduce the amount of system resources used when compared with Firefox 2. That alone makes Firefox 3 a worthy upgrade. Throughout our informal testing at CNET, Firefox 3 has been stable enough for day-to-day office use since Beta 5. Although there have been some minor, intermittent glitches when accessing Google-related pages, those problems appear to have been addressed in the final release. The performance, features, and security make Firefox 3 stand out as the best Internet browser available today.

But wait, there's more. Following Firefox 3 comes early word of Firefox 3.1. Features expected within the next incremental release include tab previews and autocomplete for tagging bookmarks. An Alpha for Firefox 3.1 is expected to be available sometime in July 2008.

FFF - FireFox Freezing

Pros: Secure, organize, simplicity, easy to use

Cons: Freezing and then crashing, thereby hanging up my entire PC.

Review: I have Intel Core2 Duo Cpu 2.26GHz, 4GB RAM, runing 32-bit OS Window Vista Home Premium.
Three tabs in firefox are eating up 380,000 KB Memory(PWS), while 4 tabs google chrome is 179,751 KB Memory (PWS)
I like firefox [using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100401 Firefox/3.6.3 ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729)] because it's secure, fast but it's freezing then crashing almost all the time.

Excellent Browser

Pros: Firefox is one of the best browsers i have ever used in regard to security.

Cons: Firefox forces itself to become your default browser anyway even after you have chosen no.

Review: Over all firefox is a excellent browser. And most websites recommend firefox if you have trouble viewing their web page. My only complaint other than the default browser issue is, Sometimes when you close firefox and start over by opening up a fresh new one nothing will happen. Then when you press ctrl alt delete you will see the old one that you closed still running. The only fix is to end the process in ctrl alt delete.

FireFox 3 is New Coke, FireFox 2 Coca-Cola Classic

Pros: Honestly, I can't think of any.

Cons: - bookmarks organized in weird sub-folder now
- bookmarks disappear without warning if you add them to another folder.
- Can't easily add bookmarks to multiple folders
- crashes often in YouTube
- no setting to make tab default to homepage

Review: FireFox 2 was an amazing browser that worked perfectly when I used it. I have attempted to upgrade to FireFox 3 twice, both times I ended up being really frustrated while using it and downgraded back to FireFox 2 a day later.

The first time I upgraded, FireFox 3 would crash about every 5 minutes while watching videos on YouTube, which was unacceptable so I downgraded.

The second time I was perplexed how things I knew I had bookmarked kept disappearing, I thought I was losing my mind. Then I realized that FireFox 3 has an annoying new feature that will, without warning or notification, remove a bookmark from the folder you previously bookmarked it to when you chose to bookmark it to an additional bookmark folder. This feature is so annoying I chose to downgrade it to FireFox 2.0 eventually. I like to save certain URLs under multiple folders if they fit multiple categories. This makes it quick and easy to browse to them using just the mouse (click, mouse move down, click and you're there). The new FireFox 3.0 has a tags option which is interesting but the fact they dis-allow you to save you to multiple folders and even more dangerously remove your bookmark from it's old spot without warning or notification is not very customer friendly. I tried to see if there was a setting to override this behaviour but there does not appear to be. Sure some argue that you can tag the bookmarks, but that requires typing in the tags which takes longer, especially if you are not a good typer. Also, the fact that FireFox would override your decision where you explicitly go out of your way to put something is along the mind-set of MicroSoft, I am really disappointed FireFox would do something like this.

I also don't like how I am welcomed to tabbed browsing everytime I open a new tab, once would be alright, but after that I'd like to set this to open my homepage or another page of my choice.

I was completely happy with FireFox 2.0 the way it is. FireFox should not change the behaviour of their browser without providing a setting to change it to the old behaviour.

Free, Fast, but Flawed

Pros: The familiarity and security of FireFox makes it my favorite. FireFox 3 is faster than previous releases.

Cons: As a user of Facebook, social networking and gaming website, FireFox 3 is unreliable and flawed. From errors to crashes, navigating Facebook is a challenge for this browser. Occasionally logging onto the Site causes screen freezing!

Review: FireFox 3 is free. How can you not like such secure and user friendly software? When restarting that same browser prevents freedom of movement in cyberspace. Everytime a link is clicked, and the screen freezes causing you to reboot your computer then Flawed is dominate. There is no fast for FireFox 3 in this state. Perhaps Mozilla will come out with a FIX?

Lost ALL business links and passwords

Pros: Nothing yet.

Cons: The upgrade was suggested for "security" reasons. Afterwards, I discoverd that every business link to around 300 manufacturers and all login info and passwords were deleted and replaced by whatever was in Explorer. HORRIBLE!

Review: First, my experience. Then, my opinion.

It was recommended that I upgrade to the newest version of Firefox "for security reasons" according to them. I did this last night.

I'm the Director of Sales for POS Paradise. We sell commercial electronics from around 300 manufacturers.

This morning, horror of horrors, I discovered that every single link to those manufacturers was gone except two. Furthermore, every single password to logins for those manufacturers was also gone. In fact, without prompting or asking if I wanted to import my links and such from Explorer, the upgrade did it automatically.

It wiped out completely all of the information that was previously stored in Firefox prior to the upgrade.

How sweet is that? I've contacted them online in glowing terms exactly how happy I am.

Not the greatest, at least for Mac

Pros: User friendly
Wide range of prefs
Many plug-ins to choose from

Cons: Rendered pages slowly

Review: When I first downloaded it, 3.6 beta was running fast and smooth and without a hitch. Closed it, reopened it, and now it moves like a turtle on my Macbook OS 10.6.1 (Snow Leopard). I opened up Webkit and ran it along side Firefox, and Webkit was as speedy as ever, while Firefox slugged along. Maybe it's the beta; I will check back later on down the line for updates to the browser, but for the time being I'm sticking to Webkit.

A Reasonable Browser

Pros: It is generally reliable, has many worthwhile extensions, and is so customizable. Everything works and there are so many choices of what to do.

Cons: Firefox constantly, and for no reason, will eat up every bit of your CPU capacity, no matter how big a chip is. This slows the computer badly and is terribly frustrating. it ocurrs all the time and you have to be ready to have a backup Browser!

Review: An OK Browser, the the unrestrained CPU usage at many times is very difficult.

The latest version 3.5.3 is horrible. Constant crashes.

Pros: Firefox is a great browser. But the newest version has a ton of problems.

Cons: They really messed up though with the latest version. Go to their web site and see how many people are having problems. I uninstalled it and went back to FF 3.0.14. So many others are using other browsers now.

Review: FF was the best browser on the net. However their latest version constantly crashes or freezes up. Tons of people have complained on their support page, but FF has made no effort to submit information as to what has happened, or what is being done to fix it. I had to uninstall it and am using FF 3.0.14. Amazing how such a great browser has incurred so many problems and their company just doesn't seem to care. Wish they would at least submit some kind of statement to tell us what is being done.

Pros: none that I've found

Cons: Used Firefox 3.5 and liked it. 3.5.3 freezes, crashes and has "internal server errors" on many sites. Also is much slower. Don't even try TV Guide listings, the drop downs for time and date freeze the browser.

Don't Bother!

Pros: There are NONE

Cons: There are ALLOT!

Review: There was a time when Firefox was the best of the best in terms of web browsers.
I was an early user and stood by their product through update after update and still to this day use it. However, over time this browser has become something of a joke. Instead of becoming more stable and more lightweight it has become a sad disaster. It crashes, loads slowly, freezes up, stalls, you name it!

At this point even Internet Explorer is seeming appealing. It is really sad to see that Firefox has lost it's grip on what really counts...STABILITY!

The only reason most people use it is because they think it's more stable and more secure than IE. Well, my friends...it's reputation is as such but what you are getting now is anything but that. Don't bother with it! You will be very disappointed.

FireFox is crap.

Pros: To show that IE doesn't have a monopoly...
on stupidity.

Cons: The entire anti-IE premise of FF is completely wrong.
Not only that, it's socially a waste of time -- browser compability -- get real already!!!
It's irresponsible, and a showcase of incompetence.
It's amateur and out of control.

Review: FireFox **is** a piece of crap, and getting stinkier by the day....

Worst of all, they are emulating even the worst aspects of their competitor, and becoming worse than them .. ie, IE.

To prove this, just look at XMLHTTPRequest -- doesn't allow cross-domain requests. URL's should be resources, just like disk drives. Should you disallow a disk drive not in your domain, if it is publically available.. of course not, they are just too lazy to do it right and clearly understand security, instead of turning off functionality!

Even IE supports true Javascript serialization through function toString(); FF does not.

FireFox has bugs in its head.. and is pompous.. it should be simply extensions to IE and be backward compatible to it. If anything, it should enforce MIME types in HTML code!!!!! So if you have an IE HTML it will honor it.

FireFox has no organization, no peer review power. And it's really beginning to show and it's unresolvable. Abandon ship now!!

FireFox is crap.

A new open source browser that supports and honors HTML mimes is the solution. period.

And W3C is absolutely lame. How can they make specifications, and not implement a browser for it? Browsers should be ISO standardized by .... now .... they should respect legacy browsers like IE, FF/Mozilla, but come up with a better spec, and allow for all of these to coexist through HTML mime type.

The new standard should be a stronger XML, and a much stronger XSLT, with true compiler, macro, and extension capability. in a modular, distributed intelligence model. Just ridiculous, how so many people in this world, can agree to be stupid.

And most of it iis due to the sick state of "education","certified" brainwashed education that doesn't teach underlying principles of thought, creativity, diversity, standards, courage, organization, and reward.

Despicable waste of time... except to protest it.

1 Nanosecond does not a browser make.

Pros: Not a big deal. IE works a nano slower - but who can count that low? Quicker they say? I don't see it.

Cons: By the time you download all the addons for RealPlayer, QuickTime, etc., you've added more weight than ever gained. Zoom is Big or Normal - no increments like IE. And Firefox is actually slower for news broadcasts.

Review: It is like Chevy's versus Fords. Who gives a Damn. When they come out with an Astin-Martin or Porche in the browser world - then it will be something to think about. FireFox may be a few NanoSeconds quicker. But it lacks the normal built ins that comes with most M$ IE things. And Once you ADD ON all the Adjusting stuff - you've find your startups slowing down. I can ZOOM in increments of 1 to 1000 with IE. Firefox has big and normal. Big Deal. I can full screen with a touch on IE - but not F.Fox. SECURITY? What a Joke. Check your basic AVG (Free at CNET) and neither IE or F.Fox can compete. Add AVG to your basic MicroSoft built-in Defender and what else do you need? FireFox SAVES almost every Keystroke. And, personally - I don't care for that. I don't find myself so forgetful that I need a Reminder what I was doing a few minutes ago. And I sure don't need to know what I did last week while surfing. FireFox is the most OVER-RATED bunch of blow I've ever seen. Now I do understand it has its place in Europe - SE Asia - and the Mid East. But in the States - I worry more about our government snooping in on me than some stupid hacker. What are they gonna find? My name, address - HELL that's all in the telephone book. If you are SO damn worried about security - So damn scared of using the Internet, and So stupid as to what and what NOt to put into the public domain of the WWWeb - Sell your damn computer and get a horse.

Firefox is ok

Pros: The add-ons, I think that's about it.

Cons: It's almost like IE, comes default with basically every Linux distro I have ever tried (and I have tried more than one), everyone seems to like it (blah!), you have to restart it every time you install an add-on (retarded)

Review: The add-ons are really awesome, the flexibility is kick ass. However, I don't like the fact that it looks and feels far too much like IE. It doesn't have E-Mail integrated into it, where thunderbird is a part of it instead of a separate application. I can never load a web page from the cache, I always have to be online, a huge NEGATIVE for me since I often want to recall a web page when I don't have internet access.

So honestly, I say **** Firefox in the long run, I'll stick with Opera.

Cons: Slow, buggy, crashes constantly.

Much Better than IE 7

Pros: Faster than IE 7 and to run smoother. Like the built in spell check.

Cons: Would like a way to alphabetize favorites without dragging then to the from IE bookmarks area

Review: Downloaded Firefox after getting to many IE 7 not responding freeze ups on my XP Media edition computer. It has been about three weeks and I haven't had any problems. Pros: That it's not IE is a biggie. I liked the way it worked with Google Toolbar

Cons: SLOW! Memory hog. At times took 10 minutes for browser to reset, with a "Firefox already open. Please close, or log off to reopen" message. Support non-existent. User forums only. They emailed me & asked my opinion, never responded. Just lame!

Very Good Browser With a Great Variety of Add-ons

Pros: * Continuing development of great add-ons that greatly enhance the browsing experience
* Up there with the best in terms of speed and safety
* A very nice and customizable user interface
* Convenient bookmarking and history system

Cons: * Still crashes from time to time, fortunately it has a tab recovery system that works well
* Not as fast as Safari 4.0 and Chrome 2 (even the latest beta version)

Just Assume Use IE 8. But Not That Bad.

Pros: Fast, UI is awesome.
Open source (can also be a con).
Compatiable with most websites.
Download Manager.

Cons: Same speeds as IE8.
Open Source. Its ok but do you really use all those add ons?!
Hangs ALOT!
Still Buggy from beta days.

Review: I personally have never been a fan of firefox. However I do like the engine and that is why I mostly use FLOCK 2. Which is firefox based but alot better. REMEMBER this is my opinion!

I do not think the add on's make Firefox a better browser. TO many will slow you down and crash you often. I only use themes myself, when I used it.

Installation: Easy.

Uninstallation: Easy. with option to save preferences.

Interface: Very nice and easy.

i hate yoog and "firefox is unable to open..."

Pros: works okay with Vista, except its inability to open links from email.

Cons: works terrible on XP, especially the Yoog default search. on Vista, its unable to open email links. when i get my monthly statement from Honda Finance, Firefox is unable to open! had no problems previously.

Review: im currently looking for a new browser. i here Chrome is okay.

Frustrating

Pros: Fast loading. Built-in spell-checker that checks as you type.

Cons: It freezes up and crashes too often. (Mozzila offers feedback for the cause, but I've never received anything from them) Cannot copy and paste photos into other sites.

Review: I use this browser more than the other two browsers I have, but I get frustrated by it too often. I think IE is a more reliable browser, but it's so bulky that it takes time for it to react. But the constant crashing/issues that I get from Firefox frustrates me to no end. Also, I don't think they should offer an opportunity for feedback if they aren't going to respond. Not sure why there can't be one browser that does it all.

Id Rather use IE8

Pros: * Change the way it looks.
*Speed is good.
*Compatiable with most web sites.

Cons: I wont lie, I havent found to many cons but I still prefer IE8

Review: Great browser. Highly recommend. Still not enough to make me want to dump IE8.

Yes the add ons are great but in reality, I really only use the themes.

Bye bye Firefox! let me know when it's fixed

Pros: works ok when it works

Cons: started crashing continuously yesterday and sites that had always worked well.

Review: Yesterday, Firefox started crashing wihtout warning. I am using the current product. The first thing I did was reinstall it. No improvement. Ao, I loaded Google Chrome again and that hasn't crashed yet.

I scanned with Trend Micro and MalwareBytes and nothing showed up on the scan.
The other thing I disliked about Firefox is that the cursor would stop working. Firefox is well aware of this and the workaround is to tap the scroll wheel.

I'll probably give it another chance after they have another release but the current one is buggy and I'm not going to use it any more.

Cons: Firefox Add Ons and Firefox keep opening up tabs other than my designated Homepage and there is guidance or help to speak of to sort the problem out unless you are a techno geek!

Awesome collection of new well implemented features

Pros: It's getting even more intuitive than ever. The Awesome Bar is really awesome. Not only can you find easily addresses related to what you have just started typing but you may tag them with any word. Add-ons are already plenty and growing.

Cons: There's nothing really. It used to crash too often at launch. But after some updates it is stable enough. Rarely crashes.

Pros: I like the the interface its nice and neat and the plugins are a bonus and not clingy like that of IE

Pros: Fast, I guess

Cons: Confusing
Unable to download and run some plugins
Too many plugins

Review: I downloaded Firefox hoping for anything better than IE, but as soon as I tried to open my homepage it wanted me to download a plugin. I kept downloading the Flash player but Firefox wouldn't let me run it unless I closed Firefox which I did, over and over again. Finally I just downloaded Chrome and it worked so I haven't opened Firefox again. Disappointed.

The "smart" location bar sucks.

Pros: For the most part it's a good browser, and it's always nice to have a decent alternative to the junk that Microsoft puts out.

Cons: The new location bar is horrible. It creates a lot of extra clutter that I don't need to see, and it creates a big privacy risk.

Review: The smart location bar must be the stupidest idea that the developers at Mozilla have ever come up with. They sure have a lot of nerve calling it "the awesome bar". Also watch out for the "safe browsing service" feature that's built into Firefox. This service is provided through Google, a company whose whole business model is built around invading your privacy. I'm sticking with Firefox 2 for now, and will upgrade when version 3.1 becomes available. That's when Mozilla is going to do what they should have done in the first place, which is give you the option to turn off all that smart bar crap.

Pros: loads fast

Cons: Issues with Flash plug-in

Review: Unbelievable. Heard so many good things about Firefox I figured I'd download it and give it a try. Right off the bat I had problems with Flash. No matter how many times I tried downloading the plug in it wouldn't work. I would constantly get pop-ups saying I needed to install the plug in. What gives? The heck with it. Yea, IE might be big and bloated but at least it works.

Performance, Good, Files Size, Bad

Pros: Firefox has great performance, it is fast and safe!

Cons: Firefox takes up to much space on your computer.

Review: So Firefox works REALLY well, but when you look at the file size after having it for about 3 days, and it HUGE. It's not huge, huge, but it is pretty big for a web browser. Mine, when I unistalled it, took up about 50 or 60 megabyes. That's big for a browser. But again it is a pretty good browser.

5.Best Interface

Pros: Lightening fast and plenty of add-ons to make this the better browser by far. Uses far less system resources and can be tweaked to make internet surfing and interaction far less of a hassle than its counterpart IE.

I can believe I used IE for so long!!!!

Pros: Very fast, user friendly. Add-ons make the internet a whole new experience!

Cons: Shuts down on occasion when too much is opened in it.

Review: Old habits die hard. For anyone who has used Firefox and reverted back to IE, your simply missing out on the internet experience. The add-ons alone make this browser heads and shoulders above any other browser. It runs circles around IE on speed and security. It also is second to none when it comes to user friendly applications. I dont know why Microsoft, with all thier high paid designers cannot come up with something similar, even if they do, I will not return to IE.

I have no reason to use another browser

Pros: * Very fast
* A lot of functionality
* Very well supported by its' development community
* Safe and stable
* Customizable

Cons: * I don't have any major complaints, nothing more than what the CNET review listed.

Review: A couple of seconds on startup - so what? I open the browser and keep it open for weeks. This thing is fast, the memory leak is gone. Did I mention that it is fast? Less CPU overhead on my system that Opera, IE7, IE8 beta or Safari. I had some issues with FF2, due to performance and memory problems, but this is my default browser again. Did I mention that its fast? Couple of nit-picks: There are plenty of add-ins and they that do not work in 3.0. And who cares about no default button for a new tab when you can click on free space and create one, or use a keyboard shortcut? Did I mention that it's fast? I tried going back to IE and there is a very noticeable difference in speed. If you absolutely NEED IE to operate certain pages, then there is an add-on the allows IE to be opened as a tab in Firefox, there is an add-on for almost everything and support community and developers for this browser pump out a great variety of add-ons, most are very useful.

I haven't had any of the software problems experienced with some other people, so it must be a hardware issue. Firefox 3 crushes Internet Explorer 7, beats its own previous version, and outdoes Safari (WebKit.org, which hosts the benchmark test, developed the engine Safari is based on). When I ran the QuirksMode.org DOM 1 test, which measures the time it takes to create a large table using W3C DOM methods, Firefox 3 managed a very respectable 245 ms average over ten runs. That was comparable with Opera's 249 ms, better than the 340 ms of Firefox 2, and far faster than IE7's 1,352ms.

Overall, Firefox has never let me down and I have no reason to use any other browser other than Firefox. Most of the problems stem from hardware issues rather than problems with the actual software which I find to be very stable fast and useful in almost every situation. I have no problem recommending it and when you use it you'll quickly find out why so many people love it.

FF3.. give me back the 'olde FF'

Pros: love FF2 but FF3 a disappointment

Cons: the new FF3 messed up the Organize Bookmarks folder.. no longer html.. why??

Review: Let me just start off saying that I am a die-hard FF--and before that--Netscape user... don't like IE never have never will...

the new FF3 messed up the Organize Bookmarks folder.. no longer html.. why??... it was the best of the best just like Netscape had it before that... e-z to utilize... just open the Organize Bookmarks from the Bookmarks drop down menu at the top.. keep it in the taskbar.. best way to access them... the 'new FF3 way' stinks... why .. why.. why...

I first loadedFF3 onto my Dell Laptop--Vista that I use for traveling.. after repeated attempts to use it.. it had to go.. and that's why I kept FF2 on the machine... my old Gateway XP Desktop still has FF2 and no FF3 for that one...

I know they aren't updating FF2 anymore.. keep on getting the notice to switch to FF3 on all my PC's.. looks like I'll be holding off until the FF3 team at Mozilla wakes up.. don't fix what wasn't broken...

Updated on Aug 31, 2009

had to go back and do it again after my first experience with FF3...I just now tried FF 3.5.. all is the same especially with the Organize Bookmarks... what did they do to it... they are out of their minds messing around with the perfect Bookmark Organizer(in FF2)

have tyo hold out still using FF2... guess this is sort of like most people trying to hang on to XP rather than go to Vista as a last resort...

c'mon Mozilla wake up will ya'... redo that terrible Organize bookmarks folder in FF3.5

Still my favorite browser.

Pros: Much faster and far more stable than firefox 2, and also light years ahead of Internet Explorer.

Cons: I have no real issues with this browser.

Review: I love it, there is no other browser that I can think of that compares. Opera's and Safari's interfaces are odd and cluncky in comparison in my opinion, Google Chrome is still lacking in features, and Internet Explorer is too slow and has too many little messages popping up all the time warning me about security, something that I can handle myself with Mcafee Site Advisor, NoScript, and Add Blocker Plus addons. I'm not a huge fan of the Awesome Bar, but I don't find it annoying either.

Sorry I really tried it but IE 7 is still better

Pros: OK browser that works on just about any computer platform (Win, Linux, Mac). Clean interface design. It's a good temporary replacement browser during times like last week when a zero day IE exploit was announced.

Cons: I found Internet Explorer 7 and 8 Beta to be much more robust and in some cases even more user friendly. Firefox seems overrated by Microsoft hating zealots. Firefox has had it's own security flaws to update and fix at different times.

Review: When a IE exploit is exposed use Firefox until it's patched. You will have to look harder but when a less publicized Firefox exploit is exposed go back to IE, etc... Sorry if you don't like my opinion but I just wanted to be honest about how I see it. If you want an emotional review not based in facts go read another one.

Decent, some improvements, but more crashes.

Pros: I like the slick design, rendering of web pages, and speed; not to mention security.

Cons: Crashes here and there and unresponsive on some sites I go to.

Review: Some of the normal sites that I googled sometimes crashes at least once or twice a week. Although Firefox does not have Active X built into its browser, I think it is the most secured browser as of today. From my point of view, FF 3 just lacks some stuff that IE has. I think I would still recommend this to people who would like speed and security no doubt. However, it is missing the WMP plugin if you are browsing a web page that plays Window Media Player content, although I could easily download it from the site. I am fairly rating this browser 3 out of 5 star.

Firefox 3 is slow, it crashes and freezes, I hate it!

Pros: Better protection against some sort of viruses and stuff, sleek new look.
It's Firefox, and I like Firefox.

Cons: Its slow, it crashes, it freezes, it lags, it uses tones of memory

Review: Its its really slow staring up and loading websites (this is how its loads, you click a web site and then FREEZ..... 6 seconds later it unfreezes and the website is there)
It crashes a lot, so when it crashes you go to restart it but when you double click on the firefox short cut after the crash a error window pops up saying firefox is still running, you must close it befor you retry, but firefox is not even running! Then you have to Ctrl-Alt-Delete, find "firefox.exe", end task, then restart firefox.
It uses so much memory, right now only one firefox window is open and its using 110MB of RAM!
I can go on and on...................

Do your self a favor, uninstall firefox 3 if you have it, find firefox 2 on google, and install firefox 2, you will be very happy

Excellent -but needs "instructions" (see summary below)

Pros: + great add on/extensions (e.g. "Adblock plus", "Tweak Network", "Noscript", & thousands more
+Smart location bar (aka awesome bar) - I 'm ok with it
+built in security features

Cons: - Smart location bar (aka awesome bar) - I see why many do not like it; (see summary below)
- to fully utilize/understand FF3.xx, you really need to read "instructions" (e.g. Firefox Tips&Tricks& tutorials AMD cnet.com, etc.)

Review: +Best set of web browser add on/extensions. My personal favorites are "Adblock plus" (best ad blocker I've used), "Tweak network " (speeds up Firefox somewhat), "NoScript" (lets you chose which javascript will run), "KeyScrambler" (prevents any keyloggers that may have slipped past security suites from working), and there are literally hundreds more (mozilla's web site says there are >5000).

+Many built in security features (e.g. anti phising and doubleclicking left side of location bar will give you security information and other website info. Unfortunately, no more updates for FF2.xx (2.0.0.20 is last update) so only security updates will be to FF3.xx This is one of main reasons I finally switched to FF3.xx (latest version is 3.05).

- Because of the changes like the smart location bar, I did not initially find using all fo the browser's features as intuitive as FF2.xx. Such a tweakable program like FF will require reading the "instruction manual." I read Firefox.com tips &tricks and tutorial and found them to be lacking. So I had to read internet sites like cnet and their forums and the firefox.com knowledge base for more information. A central online "instruction manual" would have been easier.

+ and - Smart Location Bar (aka Awesome Bar). I can see why many do not like it. It can be intrusive (I'm ok with it). It displays your bookmarks and prior url locations when you start to complete new url in location bar (not issue for me as I always clear all prior history etc when closing browser).

I find the Smart location bar helpful. An example is I have many bookmarks arranged into many folders. It still takes some time to look through the folders. My "News" folder has about 50 bookmarks. Now I "tag" cnn.com and bbc.com with "world news tag" and my local paper urls with "local news tag". When I type "world news" in the smart location bar, only cnn and bbc is displayed. This saves me some keystrokes (not many). I can imagine if you do not already organize bookmarks into folders then the "tags" will be even more helpful.

Still there are many who would prefer the old FF2.xx location bar. The mozilla knowledge base will NOT tell you have to disable the smart location bar.
For repetition's sake, here is how you can make FF3.xxx Smart location bar function more like FF2.xxx (realize it will not be exactly like FF2.xxx; you will still have the star). One does not have to do these in order here but do need to do all four steps.
(1)In location bar type "about:config" (no quotes) then press "I'll be careful I promise" in the Warning dialog box. Then scroll down and highlight "browser.urlbar.matchOnlyTyped" and double click on it so that the value changes from default "false" to "TRUE" (now the smart location bar will only only recommend sites whose address one's typed directly before)
(2) Install the extension "Hide Unvisited."
(3) In location bar type "about:config" (no quotes) then press "I'll be careful I promise" in the Warning dialog box. Then scroll down and highlight "places.frecency.unvisitedBookmarkBonus" and double click it - then in dialog box type number zero for the integer value and press "Ok"
(4)In location bar type "about:config" (no quotes) then press "I'll be careful I promise" in the Warning dialog box. Then scroll down and highlight "places.frecency.bookmarVisitBonus" and double click it - then in dialog box type number zero for the integer value and press "Ok". (Steps 3 and 4 above will remove any bookmarks from showing up in the Smart location bar).

**Do not change the "browser.urlbar.maxRichResults" value to -1 or zero as some forums suggest. If you do so then you will get one one prior typed url when you look under the location bar. Leave the integer value at default 12. **
**If you cannot recall the default for any of the values from the "about:config" preference names listing, then right click the one in question and then press "reset".

I hope this helps others trying to get back to FF2.x location bar. But as stated above, I am ok with Smart Location Bar (aka awesome bar- corny name).

Pros: It works very speedily and well, and its on-line support (via F1) quickly and helpfully has answered all my questions so far - including how to repair dumb mistakes.

Cons: Nothing so far. Okay, configuring exactly how you want it to work can be complicated, but, given all the options you are given, it *has* to be complicated - and the help system is truly helpful.

Simply the best

Pros: Firefox 3 is a great improvement! If you takes time to customize it, you'll have something extra special. I've tried all the top browsers extensively and Firefox's reputation is solidly based.

Cons: The only drawback for me is that I prefer the IE Favorites drop-down menu. One can use the Firefox "PlainOldFavorites" add-on, but the bookmarks in PlainOldFavorites are not draggable, so you can't put them in your customized order.

Review: Comparing browser to browser, Firefox wins hands down. I don't understand reviews that cast it asides as big disappointment. As compared to what? Firefox has it all.

My main browser.

Pros: Can maintain heavy use and multiple tabs (sometimes I stay online for hours). Rarely laggy or slow to load.

Cons: Too many tabs usually results in a freezing problem. Overreacts when you try to open it sometimes, leaving you with multiple windows. Slow to start.

Review: I've been using Firefox for at least a year now on Windows XP, and I've had very few problems with it. Occasionally it lags/freezes, but it's never been a big issue. My only gripe is that if you're typing on one tab, if you have sound playing on another tab, the sound stops. Otherwise, it's great.

Totally despised it

Pros: None I could see

Cons: New search bar, new history save, new location bar integrating bookmarks with recent web sites visited. I believe they call this "LIve Bookmarks" How terrible

Review: To me, I use the location bar to keep web addresses I rarely go to but do not want to forget. It stores just the addresses. With the new location bar integrated with "LIve Bookmarks" the bookmarks you go to, show up with the recent history of sites visited. Makes looking for web address very frustrating. On top of it, web address used to be stored on one line now it is multiple lines about a half inch wide. HOW STUPID. If I want to get something out of my bookmarks, hey uhhh I can go to my Bookmarks file. Worse is everything you visit is listed in the history or location bar along with the bookmarks and all sites you went to. Example: if you go to Youtube and watch 6 videos, each video, all 6 of them, you watched is now listed in the location bar. After a couple hours on the computer your location or the new NOT awesome location bar is about 2 pages long. You spend more time deleting sites you don't want listed. .Firefox realizes this is a stupid idea and offers a partial fix, you can go to their website and download an add on called "hide Bookmarks" which will temporarily not show your bookmarks, until your next visit online then you have to select " Hide bookmarks" again. Hey all this adds up to is more time playing hide and seek and more unnecessary things to do when browsing online, unless you don't mind accumulating site after site and all visited bookmarks and every little detail and paper trace of where you been. Why even have bookmarks? Why have a my favorites on youtube. Forget files and history, with the NEW and IMPROVED Firefox 3 you can have them all integrated together and spend countless time deleting and searching for what you already have places for. I don't want to have to keep removing my history to make room for ease of use. After several days of frustration I removed the New and Improved Firefox 3 for the less complex and more private Firefox 2. Regarding a speed difference I did not notice any faster results with Firefox 3 than I had with FF2

Mozilla does it once again: speed puts it ahead

Pros: fast, no installation problems, add-ons, integration into operating system, Password Manager, Library, security, Awesome Bar.

Cons: None found

Review: Mozilla's Firefox wowed us when it came out in 2001 and yet again in 2004. So what happens when it's released again in 2008? You guessed it: nothing but net. For a start, it's super fast, no matter what anyone tells you. There's also no installation woes.(ahem, IE7) Once again little add on applications are available for free download. It integrates seamlessly into your system, and its Password Manager is better than ever before. The Library makes a unique bookmarking feature: it almost runs as an application. Security is once again uptight and the Awesome Bar makes searching through the Internet faster than ever. Overall, get this, not IE7.

Pros: I'm a long time Firefox user and this version runs as flawlessly as earlier ones.

Cons: As always, nothing to complain about with Firefox.

Should've left good enough alone

Pros: Pretty. That's about it.

Cons: Bookmarks are ruined. Nothing they've added makes up for not being able to have multiple bookmark folders open simultaneously. I'll camp out on 2.x as long as I can.

Review: They could have made dozens of technical improvements and incrementally improved the product, but they had to go and screw with the UI.

Replaced my slow IE

Unacceptably problematic

Pros: I learned a lot about how to research and implement browser caused problems.

Cons: Reading the Mozilla FF3 forums it's clear that a) numerous people experienced serious cache problems (bookmarks, cookies, etc.) and that b) the fixes are ridiculously complicated.

Review: You'd have to implement at least one bug fix a day to make FF3 work. It hid all my bookmarks, none of the fixes from the Mozilla support forums helped until I reinstalled FF2 and got them back. I refuse to reinstall FF3 but now I have no idea which browser to switch to when they stop support for FF2. I don't want to sound lazy but reading through all 175 replies is like mining for gold; am I correct in my belief from what I *have* read that most people are going back to IE? Any suggestions would be most appreciated, thanks!

HOLY COW!!

Pros: Very fast and stable. Lots of add-ons and extras. Get Fasterfox and Tweak Network at Mozillaaddons to make this browser go even faster. The Dublin skin gives it a more Netscape look too(Netscape Navigator is Firefox with a better interface). Safe.

Cons: None and I usually am very thorough in my critiques.

Review: If you want speed, security, and customization, Firefox 3(3.0.4) is for you. Only Opera 9.62, Safari 3.2, or Flock 2.0.2 are comparable. IE8 beta2 is not bad either(I never thought I would say anything good about Idiot Explorer but I am now).

Major disappointment!

Pros: Loads most Web pages faster than IE. Interface is easy to use. Has many great themes and addons including DownThemAll which downloads programs better than anything else I've used.

Cons: Those great addons don't always load when opening Firefox3. Doesn't close properly much of the time requiring a computer restart. Continues to block pop-ups from sites I list as safe.

Review: I very much like Firefox 2, but Firefox 3 simply doesn't work correctly. I have tried many of the steps at Mozilla's website to fix the problems but they persist. Many times when starting Firefox 3 my addons are nowhere to be seen. The icons are missing. The addons are running but there is no way to access them to make any changes. This is a big problem because of No-Script, which will block the content of all sites and prevent me from logging on to my favorites.
The pop-up blocker doesn't function properly and continues to block sites that I have checked off as OK. Also, Firefox 3 doesn't shutdown correctly at times. If I try to restart it gives me an error message that Firefox is already running but not responding and I need to restart my computer.
I know these problems are not caused by me or my computer since the previous Firefox worked beautifully. I find it very hard to give a thumbs up to this version which is a shame because Firefox is a great browser when it works as it should. I would tell anyone who is still using Firefox 2 to stick with that one until Mozilla fixes the bugs with number 3.

Funny, this platform is so bad I can't post a review

Pros: It's pretty. People say nice things about it.

Cons: WORTHLESS. It crashes more than Aeroflot. It's less reliable than my GM car. It tells me less than watching the news. Buggier than a "Mummy" movie.

Review: Let's just see if THIS time, Firefox will let me post the review. Without collapsing in a fainting heap, or just flat telling me "whoops! That didn't work."

It's so unreliable that when I'm doing something that I simply cannot afford to have lost, I use IE. I guess that tells me what I'm doing wrong.

Adios, Mozilla. If you can't provide better plug ins and a more stable product, you need to die, just as my various tabs have died today - EIGHT TIMES so far.

A giant step backwards; not a happy camper.

Pros: Slick attractive appearance.

Cons: Buggy and unstable, frequent crashes. Arbitrarily disables other vendor programs, e.g. RealPlayer.

Review: They've taken a great browser and pretty much destroyed it. And demonstrated a high-handed attitude to rival MS at its worst. My Firefox experience goes back to FF 1.0x and I've been a big booster, have just loved it -- until FF 3. It just doesn't work. Crashes several times a day. Very unstable. Will not allow RealPlayer to exist on the same machine with it, arbitrarily disables even a new clean install of RealPlayer. Not that I have any special affection for RealPlayer, but some content is available only in that. This is the kind of heavy-handed treatment that has tarnished MS's reputation.

Since support for FF2 is coming to an end, I'm in the process of deciding what my next browser will be. For sure, it will not be FF3.

Slow, ugly, cumbersome.

Pros: None that I could find. And that was with trying it twice.

Cons: Slow, ugly, cumbersome--if I want to see the bookmarks I have, I go to "bookmarks." I DON'T need to see them everytime I click on the address bar... it just slows things down and makes using the browser that much harder. And the new version is SLOW.

Review: I loved the earlier versions of Firefox--but this version is a bust. Let's just say that if a browser is going to be really slow AND eat the bookmarks from the previous version, it should at least be easy to work with. Not the case at all with 3.0. I'm looking for a new browser.

I really can't see what makes Firefox so popular.

Pros: +The interface on Ubuntu is pretty good, but only on Ubuntu.

Cons: -Memory hogger
-Clunky, unintuitive interface on Windows.
-Slow loading for most webpages, particularly those with a lot of images (I have cable internet connection BTW, so it's not my fault)

Review: What a mess. When I heard about the new Firefox 3 a while ago, I naturally wanted to give it a try. I had tried Firefox 2 before, on my previous computer, and it wasn't half bad, so Firefox 3 must be an improvement, right? Dear god no. It's still the same bloated memory hogger that it was in Firefox 2, only now even worse. The interface is confusing, hard to navigate, and downright ugly, in particular the huge back button, which I see as an insult by Mozilla. The impression I get is they think their users are too dumb to know forward from backward, and if they really like Firefox that much, maybe the users ARE that dumb. As far as speed goes, you may as well make yourself a cup of coffee while you wait. Okay, that was an exaggeration, but the point is still the same. Webpages take forever to load, taking minutes to load the same webpage that IE7 (yes, the "dreaded" Internet Explorer 7) could load in a matter of seconds.

All in all, Firefox 3 is a sure-fire miss that should be avoided at all costs. If you don't like Internet Explorer, Opera is a great browser, and well worth a look. You might look at Safari also, as it's pretty speedy and has a simple, clean interface. Google Chrome, though still in beta, is an excellent browser too.

UPDATE:

NEGATE THIS REVIEW

After writing this review, I tried Firefox again, but got more in depth than I did before. I figured out what makes the browser so popular. The add-ons are customizable to make a browser that does everything you want it to do. In light of this, and that the browser is a lot faster than I thought it was, this review should be negated, as my opinion of Firefox has drastically changed. I would delete it, but CNET doesn't seem to have a way to delete reviews.

Pros: Faster than the competition and uses an interface that is extremely intuitive. The tabbed browsing features make surfing multiple pages easy.

Cons: It takes a quick second to start up, but so does IE8.

Review: Better speed and features than IE8.

A Good Web Browser; But Not Many Big Improvements

Pros: This latest in the line of Firefox browsers continues Mozzila's tradition of good quality. It has good security tools, nice browsing features, and good browsing speed.

Cons: Firefox had slower browsing speed than IE7 during my tests, and as for security, IE7 is in my opinion more secure. Firefox still has the most cluttered interface than any browser I have ever tested.

Review: I was surprised at the very biased review by CNET's editors. During my tests of four different web browsers (Opera, Safari, Internet Explorer 7, and Mozzila Firefox 3) I found that Firefox still has the most cluttered interface of any browser. But it still has the best customization tools I have found. The security was very good, but not outstanding like Internet Explorer 7 or 8's. I rate this as the second best browser out there, with Internet Explorer 7/8 as the best.

Firefox was easy and efficient but no more.

Pros: I can't think of any pros. It tends to regard most downloads as pop-ups or malware of some kind and won't do it. Instructions for allowing downloads don't work. However, if a busy looking screen is good, then it's good.

Cons: F 3 refuses to load some sites and for unknown reasons it would not download Adobe Reader from adobe.com, reporting that "Firefox prevented this site (www.adobe.com) from asking you to install software on your computer."

Review: I consider Firefox 3 to be non-functional, interfering with activities that earlier versions handled without problems. F 3 ought to be recalled from circulation until it has been rewritten with effectiveness in mind instead of the multiplication of cute and dubious add-ons and fancywork.

Pros: 1. Ease of use
2. Lot of thought about security and unwanted information being blocked to the user.
3. Awsome plugins, add-ons, themes and extensions. Very customizable.
4. Less prone to malicious attacks
5. Light on your RAM and other resources.

Cons: 1. Some sites doesn't work properly in Firefox. They probably are not made for Firefox and doesn't have same look and feel as firefox.
2. Nothing else

Review: I've been using Firefox since last 2.5 years and it has been my no. 1 browser in all these days. I tried IE7, IE8, Chrome but I always revert back to Firefox. It makes Internet Browsing so much secure, simple and user-friendly. I strongly recommend it to other users.

This is great! Even better than 2.0

Pros: Safer, noticeably faster, uses less memory, password saving, themes, add-ons, tabs are great, virus scan for each download, easy for web design, the list goes on...

Cons: Have have found about two sites that only work with IE. Why would a site do that? I'm never going back to those sites.

Review: Stop using IE. This is one of the good alternatives. Since I design websites, I have found it is very easy to get my site to work well with Firefox and I seem to have a hard time to do the same thing with IE. I also feel much safer using Firefox than any other web browser I have used so far. Until I find something better, which is doubtful, I will constantly and continually use Firefox.

Vista a misstep? Watch this!

Pros: Compared to FF2, none.

Cons: Looks & feels much worse than FF2. Messy layout, fonts all around (screen, bookmarks) seem smaller, fuzzy; icons incl. bookmarks lack crispness.

Review: Takes up twice as much system memory as the next application (AV) & thrice as much as the next one (firewall). It beats IE & Opera by similar multiples. May surge the CPU to over 90% on my XP SP3. This cannot be good. Its look compares badly to the latest Opera, a veritable dog's breakfast. Awesomely atrocious address bar - what for? It does not even turn colour with HTTPS, unlike the previous version commendably did. A pokey padlock bottom right is all it displays, and it is exactly the pokey that I disliked about IE7 - except it is not as pokey as FF3! So off to the glorious past and FF2, as long as I can make it.

Updated on Sep 1, 2009

To make amends, if that is what it is: This Fox is still not up to scratch, but it is improving - like, getting back to normal. It remains the browser of choice, fast, reliable and all that, yet it was better in its previous reincarnation. The devil is in the detail, and there is still some. For example, when editing bookmarks, organiser would have opened the appropriate, just-in-use folder automatically. It does not now, wallowing in the default, although logic would have it otherwise (like before). And this is what computing should be about. Something got lost along the way.

Pros: It is open source, i.e nerds everywhere review and improve the code. Its fast and eats minimal resources. With addon's you can basically extend the browser to do almost anything!

Cons: The cluttered interface is perhaps the only con of Firefox. Although you can go in to fullscreen mode to reduce the chrome.

Ridiculously bug ridden, 'awesomely annoying' bar

Pros: Does seem a little faster. System resource use is definitely a lot less, almost half. Firefox 2 used to use 55-60 MB of RAM, now version 3 uses less than 30.

Cons: I have to endure seeing that stupid Mozilla crash report at least half a dozen times and wait a good 10 minutes before I can start it up. The 'awesome bar' is a good idea, but you should have the option of disabling it in the options.

Review: This product is far from perfect. What is annoying is there is nothing readily available on Mozilla's site regarding disabling the 'awesome bar' at least, not from Mozilla itself. I also have questions in regards to what Mozilla actually does with the data they mined to come up the url in the 'awesome bar'. I wouldn't be surprised they are selling that info to Google at your the expense of your privacy. Google even has a few Mozilla developers on it's payroll.

it made my who system crash

Pros: I had to uninstall it before I could find any.

Cons: My Windows XP Home SP2 laptop crashed the first time I used Firefox 3. After that, I could only boot using "safe start" and it would crash again if I opened the browser. This stopped as soon as I uninstalled version 3 and reinstalled Firefox 2.

Review: Of course, I cannot be sure but it seems that Firefox 3 conflicts with something in my system software. I'm not a geek, so I can only guess: Windows, perhaps -- or maybe my virus program. Should Still Be In Beta

Pros: Not much...the address bar suggestions when you are typing is annoying at first, then helpful when you understand what is being displayed.

Cons: I was very much looking forward to FF3...having struggled with the browser leaks for the past x years, I was hoping that the new version would reduce the memory intensiveness of the browser...it is still a memory hog.

Review: I was one of ff biggest fans and happily continue to use v2 (I downgraded).

Besides the memory leaks, which continue, ff3 also changed the way groups of tabs open...ff now appends them to existing tabs, rather than removing and replacing those that are already open. This is a feature that they took away from FF2 users for no apparent reason..what they should have done was allow the user to right-click on the group of tabs and open in new window, which would achieve the same function without removing the replace tabs that so many people like (present company included).

Very poor release...the ff community is starting to act more like Microsoft than open-source software.

bugs - needs more work - went back to FF2

Pros: it is pretty much as FF2. Nothing noticeable that differs them really. I gather that all the goodies are inside, but hard to test them, if basic stuff does not work as it should.

Cons: That "new standard in browsing" can't even download 4 MB gzip archive without breaking it. Opera does it, FF2 but not FF3.
I have just went back to 2.0.0.16. IMHO FF 3.0 will probably be 100% usable sometime next year. Until then I stick to FF2.

Review: Stick to what's good and proven - that's FF2. What's worrying is that FF people slowly becoming "Redmont-like". It seems like they do not need to listen to users anymore. Example (one of many): add-ons website - looks better, but try to find something there. Search capacity is awful, ergonomics is ... hey ... what ergonomics?. Same with FF3 - lots of bells and jingles as it is not possible to really test it since basic functions (vide: downloading) does not work. Second attempt to reinstall I'll leave until next spring - late spring that is.

Beta-tested? I doubt it.

Pros: If it crashes on open -- and it will -- you won't have to deal with its annoying "features."

Cons: Inadequately beta-tested "upgrade" with product support responses that don't make sense.

Review: Upon installing, FF3 claims to disable incompatible plug-ins. Great idea! Too bad that, in the case of the RealPlayer 1.0 plug--in, it doesn't disable it. Instead, it gets itself into a hammerlock with RP and crashes on open. Mozilla's instructions for how to fix this require being able to open the program. It's possible to revert to FF2 if you know the secret location of the downloads, but don't bother following Mozilla's instructions for the reversion, as those don't match the way the behavior of the software.

Should you get FF3 to work on any system, the address-bar fill-in alone will drive you to despair. No amount of fiddling with Options will make it fill in from your history -- only from your bookmarks. And it searches bookmarks for anything faintly resembling what you're typing, so you're essentially wading through drek.

As far as speeding up performance: forget it. FF3 moves at a fraction of the speed of FF2 and is far less stable.

That -- combined with the rude, perfunctory, and clueless support on Mozilla's site -- makes the "upgrade" experience a timewasting nightmare.

Fast, Stable, Crash, DANG!

Pros: Very faster with tabs, everything, and I never really use RSS but you know, innovative. I get to see what passwords are stored on my PC and Mac if I forget but I dont really find that very security-ish.

Cons: Well, very great on Windows, but not on Mac. If you download it on Mac, a little sooner, you are to expect a Mozilla Crash Report.

Review: Okay, Im not going to lie about my age. Im 11. I used Safari, IE6-7, Firefox 2, Opera, and Mozilla 's other browser Camino, but nothing beats the awesome (bar, :) you'll get it when you review all the names of the new features) browser of Firefox 3. Very stable and great on Windows (WINDOWS, :/) but unfortunate for Mac users, your fox will be fatally sick and may crash, they will need to switch beck to FF2 because because FF3 on Mac in a second when you open it open's up Mozilla Crash Report, Firefox 3 probably doesnt breath the air of a Mac earth yet.

Not as good as any thing

Pros: Looks Nice

Cons: Doesn't work well

Review: I installed this on a work computer to try it out, especially with users that do not know computers. I have never had more crashes, more problems with the connection (I do not get how they are related but we had DSL connection problems that cleared up when I reinstalled FF2). Also, a weird quirk that, once FF has crashed (which it will), you are not allowed to open another instance of it for some reason...wait for and the bugs to be fixed.

Get It...Customize it...Enjoy!

Pros: Slick, fast, very customizable.

Cons: Some occasional stability issues remain, though this may be inherent with extreme customization.

Review: I am a windows user, vista liker, and long time PC technophile. I have used and basically liked IE for a long time. Until now Firefox has not been able to win me over. FF3 finally got me. I use it almost exclusively now. It may be a no-no for those you have to access websites that will only render properly in IE, though there is even an add-on to address this!

Great, don't know what the other guys are talking about

Pros: In general it is just a good browser. It doesn't have any overwhelming features blowing the others away(at least not by default, but addons can provide that) but it is a good browser that runs very well on any OS, that gives consistency which I like.

Cons: one of my favorite addons from the past doesn't work with it yet, but i can live without it.

Review: Honestly, I hate IE just because of an incurable hatred for Microsoft, but it is a better browser. None of the web site computability problems from the past persist today. Safari has a really bad reputation in security, plus it is just generally lacking. Firefox is very portable, it runs on every remotely relevant OS I can think of. Its an open source browser, Mozilla really has no choice but to be open about any problems with the browser, unlike it's proprietary competitors. Basically it is just a good browser.

Good as Firefox 2 was.

Pros: Fast and ease of use. You can back up your bookmarks from the menu and restore if required.

Cons: Totally unable to sort bookmarks [A-Z] and the same has been reported to Mozilla.

Review: Good but sort out the bug which prevents sorting of bookmarks, although sorting of Bookmarks toolbar works fine. The earlier option in firefox 2 of right clicking and sorting looks easier.

A major disappointment

Pros: - It's free

Cons: - Huge memory hog
- Slower than FF2
- Buggy
- Crashes constantly
- Plug-in finder doesn't work
- Website compatibility issues
- "Awesome bar" sucks

Review: Firefox 3 is a major step down from FF2 in nearly every respect. It's a bloated, pathetic imitation of its former glory. I constantly get plug-in prompts and then it doesn't tell you what plug-in you need. The "awesome bar" is annoying and useless. It crashes on many websites and is just terrible. I stopped using IE7 because it was bloated. However, FF3 is now just as bloated so I guess I'll switch back or go with Opera.

Thanks for screwing up a great browser, Mozilla!

Compatibility Issues

Pros: Faster, better security, some nice new browsing features

Cons: Many more compatibility issues than previous versions.

Review: Firefox 3 is a sharp-looking browser that loads quickly and offers better security than previous versions. It has some really nifty additional features that have been well-documented here on CNET. I would probably have given it a much higher rating if not for the fact that the web mail service my office uses no longer work, some other web site features seem to have also stopped working, and the Real Player Video add-on does not work. You will hear defenders of Firefox point out that software providers have had plenty of time to upgrade their programs to work with version 3. That may be, but in the real world (where I seem to be stuck) this point is moot. The programs and web site I must work with no longer operate correctly. At this time, I cannot recommend upgrading to Firefox 3 without some caution.

FF...takes lesson from MS....

Pros: Not sure, still looking for a pro

Cons: Verboseness

Review: I installed 3 expecting great things but I found as I worked on it nothing but a disappointment. The main problem I found was besides the lack of performance promised, the changes that couldn't be switched off. The main thing is the URL most used link list. The verboseness nearly killed me. I know that www.cnn.com IS CNN ! I don't need 2 lines to tell me that. The drop down was HUGE and extremely distracting! Also most of the links from V2 were gone ! I sent emails asking for help, cruised the support forum and finally went on live chat. Found out that the only way to fix some of the sudden changes like this is to install a skin ! There is no internal switch, no patch. I was told by the support tech that everyone loves and I would get used to it. BS ! Its like the MS Word Ribbon...oh everyone will get used to it....Uh NO. Who did they ask to make these changes and why didn't I get prompted on install to change as an option ? My users do not like it and I removed 3 and went back to 2. My opinion and for what I have heard FF has done a MS....made changes with the attitude...'they will get used to it and like it...eventually'. Uh NO...hello Opera again.

Pros: Absolutely None

Cons: Too Many Unless You Are A Geek

Review: Very Disappointing, they seem to have caught the Microsoft Syndrome for making programs so far too complicated to set up unless you are a geek. Pros: Virus/hack/everything protection, super fast, looks great (defult mode), slim and unnoticeable, love the spell check

Cons: um... it doesn't make nachos?

Review: In my experience of using IE and Firefox 2, my spyware scanner (PC Spyware Doctor) would pick up occasional virus's and other annoying things that i hated having to deal with, but knew they were unavoidable. Firefox 3 Upgrade

Pros: Saving pages is an excelletn feature

Cons: Haven't found any yet.

Review: Anyone who has been following the development of FF3 should know that there will be compatability issues with OS.

I have run FF3 on Windows 2000, XP Home, XP Pro, and Vista Home Premium. All seem to work fine. My required Add-ons, FireFTP works fine, I have not run across any problems loading pages or content, and I haven't had any of the problems I had with FF2 instability or crashing.

Before you jump on an upgrade, make sure you have a back up to reinstall your older version. This is just a good all-around idea.

Second, back up your bookmarks and add-ons.

If it doesn't work now, it may work at a later release, so be patient.

Released Too Early

Pros: A Little Fancier than Firefox 2

Cons: Buggy, Incompatible with Add-ons

Review: I've been a dedicated Firefox user since version 1 several years ago. Firefox 2 was a really great browser and I didn't really see the need for Firefox 3. Still, I downloaded it for my home PC.

It has turned out to be a disappointment. The first problem is that it is incompatible with a Kodak add-on that my wife uses to upload photos. Pretty annoying. I suspect there are other add-ons that also don't work, so look into that before you "upgrade."

The second problem is that it freezes up on me, leaving me no choice but to ctrl-alt-del kill it. My computer is an extremely stable, modern machine. Nothing crashes on this computer. Except Firefox 3. It's buggy and comes across as beta or alpha software. I give it a 3 out of 10 because I expect better from Mozilla.

Pros: runs google software

Cons: becomes nearly unusable after more than one window is opened

Review: I cannot count the times this piece of garbage has crashed my mac, causing me to restart and lose what I was doing. It slows down itself and your computer exponentially as you open more windows or tabs to the point of unresponsiveness. Anyone with a mac would do well to use Safari whenever possible. My experience with Firefox has been frustrating and enraging. This thing is horrendous.

Excellent release

Pros: Save tabs feature, download manager, zooming, awesome bar and all round performance improvements, as well as others.

Cons: A bit sluggish, still consumes an enormous amount of memory, flash is a bit troublesome and there are some bugs which aren't significant but nonetheless need fixing.

Review: Its been a while since I last wrote a review for Firefox, that was in 2006 and I wasn't totally wrapped but I still loved it. Over a year later and I am highly impressed with the improvements of this version. The Save and Quit feature has helped me keep track of my browsing tabs during instability issues with my OS, rebooting for no reason. No longer do I lose track of where I was browsing because my tabs are saved, something I really love.

The UI has been updated which looks decent on my system. The bookmarks has been improved now with tagging. I use the tagging feature quite a lot. Memory usage is indeed much lower, though that's not to say FF2 had shocking memory leaks. The new password storing feature is excellent and unobtrusive, unlike previous versions. The download manager was always superior to IE's one, now it can pause downloads and resume, which is an essential if you download very large programs. Zooming is nice and is comparable to IE7, I also like the "Awesome Bar" that's good but not earth shattering, in fact I find it downright creepy.

There isn't a lot of negative things to say, however performance is not something I have noticed any great improvement in, it's probably just me but everything isn't much different when it comes to JavaScript and the like with web technologies. I hear that FF3 uses some SQL engine to store profile data, it actually does slow down the browser quite a bit and I imagine people will find FF3 a little more sluggish when organising their bookmarks. Other than that the browser has evolved and become something I recommend to everyone, this isn't a disappointment and if you are still using FF2, upgrade now!

Firefox 3 sucks!!! IE5

Pros: none none none

Cons: bloated and slow as hell

Review: Do not upgrade from 2.0! I wish i never did. Nothing new jumps out at you except a fatter more bloated slower firefox.

I'm so ticked off right now i don't even know where to begin.

Times out on large sites! Its almost feels like im using IE5 on dial up.It pauses for about 2 seconds.

Handles redirects and time outs by displaying Address not found! The fix? refresh a couple times loads fine.

More sluggish when scrolling pages or shifting tabs.

Sometimes wont load images you have to right click to Show image. Plus it loads and displays page elements diffrent.

Screw this i just want to browse i dont care about the cool flashy history drop down in the address bar.

Those pop up bars at the top **** me off. I liked the old way they had it. regular pop up less annoying than the whole page shifting.

Start up is more heavy on the resources.

The star in the url sucks.

I would type more but im closing this crap ware out and reinstalling firefox 2.

Cons: Was incredibly slow at loading web pages which rendered it useless.

Review: My computer satisfied Mozillas requirements. As soon as 3.0 was installed and the browser came up there was nothing but a blank screen that was stalled. I thought the router was down again but when I tried IE 6 it worked perfectly. Firefox 3 was so incapable that I needed to use their competitor to access the Mozilla support site. Lots of comments about slow this and that. Then lots of suggestions about doing this and that, checking this and that. I won't do that. I you aren't ready for prime time then you shouldn't release the program until you can count on most everyone having a seamless transition. Since I don't use IE I needed to get back to Firefox 2.0 and luckily still had the original download stored away. Uninstalled 3.0 and then re-installed 2.0 which then worked perfectly and at normal high speed in connecting to the web. So long Firefox 3 as there is no way that is going on any of my computers

Firefox 3 is not perfect, but it definitely provides my best browsing experience

Pros: Rendering speed, good password manager, fabulous page resizing

Cons: Minor rendering issues, surprising difference between release candidate three and the final version.

Review: While all of the popular browsers are works in progress, and despite the fact that all of them swipe ideas from the others (and there's probably code in all of them left over from the original Mosaic), right now Mozilla Firefox 3 definitely provides me with the best browsing experience.

And as far as I am concerned, the best new feature in Firefox 3 is its page zoom feature. In Firefox 2 and earlier, Internet Explorer 6 and earlier, etc., the only thing which one could easily zoom was the text size. Then, IE7 introduced a zoom feature which resized most elements in proportion, which is perfect for the New York Times, CNET and many other sites designed for many different monitor resolution settings. These sites display on wide-screen, high resolution monitors as a narrow, vertical ribbon with dead space on either side. In IE7, I would hit Ctrl-+ seven times and the New York Times fit perfectly on the 46" 1900 x 1080P HDTV in our bedroom, which we use as a monitor, and was easily readable from across the room. But this had to be done each time the site was displayed, and the graphics, though enlarged in proportion to the text, were extremely pixelated.

But now, Mozilla Firefox 3 has "borrowed" this feature and improved greatly upon it. The mechanisms to control the feature are the same as in IE7, but that's where the similarity ends. For Firefox 3 resizes images with nearly no pixelation, it remembers one's zoom level on a site-by-site basis and, best of all, it renders the same, zoomed pages faster than IE7 (or the IE8 beta, for that matter), this despite the much better zoomed image quality.

There are other improvements as well, but this is the big one for me. Try it! Either hold down your Ctrl key and roll the scroll wheel on your mouse or hit "+" or "-" to change the zoom level. Hit Ctrl-0 (zero) to return to normal.

CNet has totally blown it's credibility on this one...

Pros: It's New! It's not MS - that's about it folks.

Cons: Non commercial pages do not load well.

Review: Well, I used to think CNet was a credible independant opinion...
But the unrestrained enthusiasm over Every release of this mediocre browser tells me otherwise...
They may sway me on a cellphine or a bluetooth decision, and I wouldn't know the difference. But come on now. Just start opening pages put together by novice and I'm using IE7 to see what I'm supposed to see. Pages that aren't up to par do not work - but I never noticed the difference with IE. I spend more and more time somewhere designed by everyday people and I don't need to be looking for crutches every time I do. I have the distinct feeling that I made a bad decision once again experimenting with Mozilla.

First time Firefox User.....

Pros: Fast, stable, visually clean (on Mac).

Cons: No option to open new tabs from address bar, links etc.

Review: This browser is great. So much faster than IE and Maxthon. The only downside I could find was limited options to select when a new window or new tab etc would open. Maxthon has a great list of options, hopefully Firefox will offer something similar in the future.

One funny thing I noticed, the screen shots in the video review showed the Mac version of Firefox even though there was a Dell laptop on the table.

I am running both Max OS X and Windows XP on my MacBook Pro, and the Mac version is a lot nicer looking, cleaner, easier on the eyes (it seems) than the Windows version.

Firefox will hijack your operating system; htm files in Dreamweaver become 'Firefox Document 's

Pros: no appreciable difference noted other than all the marketing hype around download records

Cons: Firefox continues to be a hijacker without our permission

Review: The audacity and arrogance of the Firefox marketing people in converting all Firefox user's .htm 'File Types' from .htm files to 'Firefox Document' files, within Windows and Adobe products betrays a pirate mentality within Firefox. Beware. I will be uninstalling it and keeping it at a distance... they have proven themselves to be untrustworthy. And, I have little hope of being able to do so. Paint Shop Pro did that to me years ago... all my .JPG's became Paint Shop Pro types... had to get a new system before it went away... and now Firefox is doing the same crass marketing tactic.

Firefox 3 is a major improvement in Browsing!

Pros: Loads quickly, does not have the lag time in closing of F2, uses less HD and memory space

Cons: None so far.

Review: I didn't think I could still be impressed by software - been there, seen that. F3 has changed that opinion.

It won me over by fixing a semi-major problem I had with F2 - my machine would start using more memory and HD space when F@ f2 to the point where I'd have to reboot if I used the browser all day with other programs.

The problem is GONE with Firefox 3. It's smooth in operation and a pleasure to use.

I've also not seen downsides yet with the program...

I'd rate it a 15 out of 10 if I could.

Firefox 2 wasn't as good

Pros: Easy to use

Cons: Limit on add-ons

Review: This must be the best one ever (so far), unfortunately, so far it will only allow 2 add-ons, the dictionary and Adblock. Otherwise it's a good browser, and certainly not to be sniffed at.

For years i clung to IE6 and then when I was able, to IE7, this browser has revolutionised usage, and most importantly of all, it's secure.

Pros: Speed, Security, Customization

Cons: Some new design flaws

It is Awesome..

Pros: seems faster, smoother navigation through tabs, better password and download manager, improved bookmarks handling

Cons: Liked FF 2 icons more, some extension are not supported (can't blame mozilla for it)

Review: Firefox 3.0 is simply amazing. Have been using FF since starting. Almost 4 days of using it, never experienced any crash. Just unhappy that Google dropped its Google browser synch for firefox. It was one of the best extension for me in firefox. I hope Mozilla develops some thing similar to it. Read somewhere that they have developed Weave, still to try it out.

very nice, but....

Pros: faster, cleaner, seemed more stable

Cons: no single file web page save

Review: i tried v3 for several days
but had to return to v2.0.0.14
as not only is the maf/mht function gone;
any pages i had saved previously
would not open which would have forced me
to use microsloths inet exploder
and make it the default browser;
unacceptable!

the single file web page save is an valuable tool
for more reasons than can be expressed here

i am unsure the reluctance of mozilla
to support such a function;
combined with the 'ie tab' extension
the need for ie is eliminated
for everything except ms updates

i hope and wait for a solution

Doesn't Work

Pros: None Observable

Cons: Won't Start

Review: I "upgraded" from 2.0.0.14 to Firefox 3 a couple of days ago on a Windows XP Vaio. The only thing that I could see that Firefox actually did was install itself as my default browser. Anything else: forget it. It would not start up, either from the shortcut or the start menu, and safe mode didn't work either. I found nothing on the Firefox FAQ that addressed my particular problem. I restarted the computer several times, and installed and uninstalled Firefox 3 twice before giving up and going back to 2.0.0.14, which, incidentally, wasn't easy to find on the Firefox site. Hopefully, the problem is a simple one that will be fixed in Firefox 3.1. Until then, The only thing Firefox 3 has done for me lately is to waste two hours of my time.

I'm sure it will get better

Pros: Better rendering of pages

Cons: Too many load errors; no sidebar History

Review: Yes, we all know that the first release of anything, no matter how well beta tested, is still going to have problems. That said, Firefox 3 does seem to have a couple of areas that tend to have me wanting to go back to version 2.

The first is that the changes to History render it less user-friendly (at least to me). Having it no longer available as a sidebar is a major pain. What's worse is that there appears to be no grouping by general site name. I'm still looking but the listing has now become a long, cumbersome construct. Tedious to search and even more tedious to clear entries.

The second is that I am experiencing a hell of a lot more page load errors and other caution icons. I find that I am no longer able to have as many tabs open and active before one or more give me an error message. Unfortunately, I suspect the problem is due to the requirements creep that occurs with new versions.

Other reviews have noted that this version is not backward compatible with a number of earlier operating systems (I'm running XP SP2 so I'm safe for the moment). However, I don't have current, affordable access to high-speed and I think that's what causing the load errors. It wouldn't be a great surprise to find that the browser baseline is set for high-speed and so dial-up speeds end up being interpreted as excess ACK delays or other problems with communications.

In summary, it's workable but frustrating at times. It probably addresses a lot of users' wish lists but for me, I may end up going back to version 2.

Good but. could be better....

Pros: Speedy, Robust and Fantastic -- Sparkly Brand New

Cons: Still got the image drop out bug...

Review: By now everybody is giddy with the new latest Firefox browser... It didn't disappoint with its latest release, however... there is one bug (which by now has become a feature) the developers has failed to conquer. This bug is the drop out of images on certain sites like Renderosity where users post images to the forum. The work around of using shift and click to do a forced refresh doesn't always work the first time around. One has to do it multiple times.
Sometimes, I would come across the same forum and the images will be there, other times more often it will not. What to do? Keep using the shift click or as I often use... ctl-shift right click to force the page to refresh.

Pros: Speed Speed Speed

Cons: Have not found any yet

Review: Firefox 3.0 is a vast improvement over 2.0. I only had a few minor issues with websites that required intensive usage (site builders, that sort of thing) and they are resolved in this release. I cannot believe how fast it loads up and renders pages! The hold your hand features (the awesome bar) look useful to mainstream users, I'm just glad my Web Dev toolbar worked with it right away.

Very good but has a large support hole

Pros: user friendly, verycustomizable

Cons: Does not render Windows Live Services correctly

Review: So far I am enjoying FF3 however it does not support Windows Live services which Iuse for a few things. This inlcudes Windows Live Hotmail and my.live.com. Through researching I have found that it must be an active x issue but I am not sure. Youcannot use the prievew pane in the latest version of hotmail and the RSS feeds and tabs in my.live.com do not load and work at all.

I ave loaded the add-on ie tabs and that works on Windows XP but it does not work on Vista and 2 of my 3 PC's use Vista.

Outside of this issue (which is pretty big for me) FF3 is great. So if yo don't use Live Services you will most likely enjoy FF3. If it did support Live Services this would easily rate a 9. I hope this can be fixed.

Pros: Speed at the cost of user friendly

Cons: All stored passwords/addresses/usernames GONE!

Review: I upgraded from Firefox 2, wish I hadn't! Yes it's faster but at what cost to me the very average user?

I have spent hours reconstructing passwords and user names to the numerous sites I visit. Always depended on FF2 to remember and open the sites for me.

Firefox 3 crashes

Pros: faster in loading pages

Cons: less reliable

Review: After successfully using Firefox 3 for 1 1/2 days I found that it had crashed overnight. My previous version of Firefox NEVER crashed. As I was unable to get it running again I decided to remove it, turn off my computer and then re-install a fresh version. However, I've continued to get the same message that it crashed and won't re-install. Hopefully, Mozilla has gotten mine, and I would imagine, other reports about this problem and will be working on a solution. Given the extensive Beta testing of this browser I'm very disappointed. When I get into work I'll see if the same problem has occured with Firefox 3 there.
Updated
Felt it was important to update that Firefox crashed (and won't re-load or reinstall)on my home computer but is functioning on my work computer. I'll review any software incompatibility problems and attempt to diagnose any virus that might be impacting Firefox at home, but since my last version never had a problem, I'm still concerned about the stability of the browser. I hope CNET will print this review.

Pros: Very little memory used, good overall look, great add-on support, secure, tons of options.

Cons: Bested by Safari in appearance. (Beats almost everything else though)

Review: One of the best browsers I've ever used, uses little more than 30,000 K, where Safari uses about 130,000 K. (For a single tab)

Pros: Love the Password Check!

Cons: Wish I Had Choice on the Awesome Bar

Review: I'm enjoying the changes and additions, so far. This is only my second day fooling around with Firefox 3, but for the most part, I'm really pleased.

When I'm doing a JOB, however, it's not always necessary to have the Awesome Bar, so I wish I could have a choice in turning on/off that feature.

Nothing Safari Users Haven't Seen Before

Pros: It is fast and is streamlined. A major upgrade from IE users. It finally has features to hold its own in true competition

Cons: It's nothing new: Safari users have had the 'new great features' standard for some time now. It's a complete knock-off of Safari's layout.

Review: It's clearly stylized after Safari. In fact it's the same except the refresh button is going counter-clockwise compared to Safari's clockwise orientation. Any 'new' feature that's touted as being God's gift to internet browsers... Safari's already got it. It's a huge upgrade from IE 7 and I would recommend the switch, but to be honest the only reason a Safari user would want to switch is simply 'to be different.' I truly feel like the folks at Mozilla sat down at Safari and said, "Alright, what can we take with out infringing on copy-rights?" and proceeded to take all of Apple's ideas. This is truly not an innovative product and I feel that the magic of Firefox, the magic that draws people to use it, is lost on this one. People don't care about improved guts, it's new features they want. It simply doesn't deliver.

I'm Impressed!!

Pros: Much faster on older machines

Cons: Don't like changes in Bookmarks Editor (Library)

Review: I've installed Firefox 3 on 5 machines, both Windows (2K & XP) and Linux (CentOS, Fedora 7 and Fedora 9). What impressed me the most was how much faster Firefox 3 runs on my old Compaq 7800 series laptop (366 mHz P2 with 256MB). On both Windows and CentOS 5.1 Firefox 3 is at least 30% faster and the memory footprint is about 20% smaller, a real plus on that old resource slim machine.

I have only one real beef and that is how the Bookmark Editor works. It imports bookmarks from IE a LOT slower and the changes made in how bookmarks are moved between folders makes it more difficult, but I guess I'll get used to it.

Overall I'd give the Mozilla team an A - which is an extremely high grade for the "out of the gate" release of a major upgrade. Microsoft will have a high hurdle to jump over with IE8.

After that the right-click menu's failed to work, just producing a faint outline of the menu but no text displayed and thus not usable. Keep 2.0 and DO NOT UPGRADE!!!

Pros: NONE the browser will not even open

Cons: 2.0 is gone and 3.0 will not launch

Review: I waited with great anticipation for Firefox 3.0. I downloaded it and had it set to open when I closed the install window. An error report popped up the second I did that. I closed every Google program I had running and was able to view the new program, I guess. It was a distorted Yahoo page and all my add-ons were gone. I was able to do a search to see if any of the add-ons were available for the new 3.0 and found out Google, my Sirius player, and several other add-ons no longer worked on the new 3.0. If Microsoft had released this crap in this condition it would be an outrage. I guess they think if it's free I will be willing to help them make it better. Yes I liked Ver 2.0 but there is no way to reinstall the old version. I loved how fast it was and could put up with some pages and pictures not appearing properly. Buggy is the only way to describe this program. I am not some software developer and am not going to tinker with the operating system just to be able to say I don't run IE. I'll take IE over Firefox 3.0 every time! It simply is not convenient or worth the hassle.

Best Browser Out There!

Pros: Simplicity, User Friendly, Fast, Secure, Design, the pros go on and on. Download it already.

Cons: Since release some addons dont work with Firefox 3. But I know that will be fixed soon.

Review: I have tried most of the top internet browsers out there, (IE7, Opera 9, Safari 3). Firefox 3 is simply the best. Its faster, safer, customizable, and has a very user friendly atmosphere. If you haven't tried it, I recommend it soon. I used to be an IE fan until I downloaded Firefox 1.5 a couple years ago. What can I say Ive been hooked ever since.

Blazing speed, extension heaven

Pros: Much faster rendering with better protection

Cons: Extensions/themes need to catch up

Review: A must have upgrade! Who wouldn't want to surf faster, easier, safer. The only thing that keeps this from being a perfect review is the inevitable extension catch up that must be played. For a (hopefully) short time, quite a few extensions and themes will need to be updated in order to be used. A small price to pay for the benefits. Thankfully quite a number of extensions have already updated their code to accommodate.

Best Browser Yet.

Pros: Faster then any browser I have yet used. Can see my already installed java and flash. Most extensions where avalibal before firefox 3 was released. Loads most pages realy well.

Cons: Dosen't work well with CNET TV, so I use the IE tabs extension for that.

Review: The best browser for Vista. Firefox 2 didn't always detect Plug-ins (Java or flash) eaven if installed threw firefox. IE is to slow for me. Opera has to many functions and half the time can't find what I whant. I not like Safari's gray theme and firefox is faster. With the new theme's firefox look's like part of the native OS. Also nice haveing in MAC, windows, and Linux. Not have to learn a new browser everytime switching an OS.

Great Product

Pros: Almost everything

Cons: Does not support live streaming software such as SopCast

Review: I use my internet for everything: movies, music, games, email, streaming etc. and firefox is great for everything except live video streaming which is a major con for me because I watch a lot of sports from all over the world.
Apart from that, Firefox 3 is MUCH faster than IE 7 and 8 in page loading and is a fantastic browser

Nice Job Again Mozilla

Pros: Speed is the game

Cons: Not Windows 98 Friendly

Review: With the release of Firefox 3 yesterday, I do have to say that I like it a lot. I've been sporting the engine since beta 3, and have continually been impressed by the browser.

The Awesome bar is pretty 'awesome', using a data-mining collection system to help the user with daily needs. When a user starts typing a URL in the box, Firefox starts to pull up a list of any website that you might have visited that sounds like it. For instance if I wanted to go to spreadthefox.com, if I typed in 'the' the website will come up as a list of choices. I've found it pretty convenient so far, with no problems so far. Although I clear my history at least once a day, the system doesn't have a chance to learn me.

The speed of the browser is far better because the engine is now the new Gekko 1.9 engine. What does this mean? Firefox no longer supports Windows 98 and OS X 10.2 and before. :( Not that it matters too much, most of the world is running at least those systems. If you've ran the systems, compare the speed with Safari and imagine the possibilities. Memory Leaks are also fixed, solving so many problems.

So without repeating basically every thing else the editor said on the rest of the upgrades I would like to finish with one thing. UPGRADE, it's worth it.

Outstanding improvements

Pros: The faster speed is truly noticeable

Cons: A minor nit...formerly there was a button at the end of the address bar for refresh which is now gone!

Review: I wish to note that the Zoom feature is awesome and does telescope despite the article stating otherwise. Also very easy to use from the keyboard, Ctrl++ to zoom in. Typing additional +s as in Ctrl+++++ will zoom in further for each +. If you zoom in too much, start hitting the minus (-) key to zoom out.

If you take your finger off the Ctrl key and want to zoom out, type C+- with multiple -s if you need to move out further.

Simply outstanding.

Good bye Firefox 3

Pros: not so many compared with 2

Cons: same big memory usage; crashes

Review: OK, it is not sufficient that Firefox has the same big memory usage, but now I've got also crashes on my computer. This browser is for people who want hunderds of add-ons and don't want to browse lightly on the Internet! Good bye Firefox 3!

SmartBar as made me stop using firefox

Pros: Great new interface, looks great when using a mac

Cons: there is no way to disable the SmartBar

Review: I have stop using firefox because of the new SmartBar feature, is extremely annoying, and there is no way to turn it off. this is the second time that I used safari ( the 1st time was to download firefox 2 ). I don't want firefox to suggest or browse my bookmarks while I'm typing an address.

The fastest browser ever

Pros: Fast, smooth & highly customizable

Cons: Font rendering not as good as Safari

Review: I had switched to Safari from IE 7. But only after few hours with this Firefox 3, I am stumped. This baby is completely customizable, fastest by leaps n bound compared to IE and passes ACID 2 test and almost passes ACID 3 test. If you have never used it, I highly recommend that you at least download it and give it a try. It will change your life.

Good but memory problems still persist

Pros: New interface, slightly faster speed, less clutter

Cons: Memory usage

Review: The new Firefox 3 is a great leap in every way except memory use. It introduces new, slick interface that's fresh and still usable for folks who've had Firefox since the earlier days. The new interface also takes up less space than Firefox 2, so more of the contents can be seen - a definite plus for people on laptops.

The only con at the moment is the persisting memory problem. I only have two tabs open with two plug-ins and it's already taking up 100MB of my RAM. I find that excessive and not much different compared to Firefox 2. But overall, it's a great update to a great browser.

Unable to use Japanese language

Pros: Nothing attractive under this situation.

Cons: Unable to use anyway.

Review: Firefox 3, from RC1, has the curious property:
it does not enable MSIME for Japanese language.
This character reminds me the ancient Netscape
before 3.72 in early 1990's. Since then to Firefox 2.0.0.14 I enjoyed browsing and searching regardless the language is English or
Japanese, on English versions of MS Windows platforms. Now with Firefox 3 precludes this possibility. I strongly protest against this.

All smiles on this XP SP3 machine!

Pros: Speed, ease of use, tons of options and more speed baby!!!

Cons: Small problem with a few missing bookmarks from Firefox 2

Review: I couldn't be happier with this new version of my favorite web browser. Firefox 3.0 is everything I need and so easy to learn and use it seems unfair for it to be free!!!

adequate for people who don't know about opera.

Pros: better than ie7 in many ways.

Cons: not as good as opera 9 in many ways.

Review: this seems to be slightly faster than ver.2 and just as feature-rich. most people who only use it casually will not notice a difference. But why use firefox at all, when Opera is even faster, easier to customize, and loaded with just as many plugins. I have nothing against mozilla, but Opera is still my first-choice browser.

Just keeps getting better

Pros: Faster loading, clean interface, user configurable

Cons: AddOns disabled unless you have Nightly Test addon

Review: This version of FF has gotten rid of the memory leak problem. It also loads faster than its predecessor or IE7.

Many of your addons/extensions will be disabled due to the makers waiting for the final release version of FF, but if you have the Nightly Test addon, you can bypass the 'compatibility' problem and they will function. I only had one not work, and cause crashes (Skype plugin), and once it was removed, all ran smooth and sweet.
Updated
It was clearly stated on the installation page that most current addons will be disabled until they are updated. 90% of memory leak/memory problems are caused by addons, not the browser.

To bypass FF3 disabling the addons, use Nightly Tester Tools to bypass the disabling and use your addons.

An Awesome Browser

Pros: Very fast, very extensible, hardly ever crashes

Cons: None thus far.

Review: This is the best browser on the market, bar none. I have tried Safari, Webkit, Opera and IE8 (still testing the last one right now), and Firefox blows them all away with a rocket launcher.
The only thing I am disappointed in is that Acid 3 cannot be passed with this browser, thus far, but almost no other browser can pass that test yet with flying colors.

Don't Upgrade if you like your Add-ons!

Pros: Once I got over losing my add-ons, it seemed OK

Cons: OK, I didn't get over losing my add-ons

Review: Can't believe I'm saying this but thank you Microsoft! I tried every other way to restore Firefox 2, but the closest I got was an error message. Finally used System Restore and it worked flawlessly. Love Firefox, Love my Add-ons, too!

Bookmark features are ridiculous

Pros: Better loading and performance

Cons: Bookmarks totally FUBARed

Review: The new Bookmark feature is completely and utterly useless. Sorting isn't working or not working properly. The Bookmark sorting menus and categories don't work either, how on earth this make it through beta and release? The Bookmarks system has become as useless as Safari's.

Memory problems still persists

Pros: Slick design, tabs, fast, excellent bookmarks, simplicity.

Cons: Unfortunatley, I was hoping that the memory leak problem would be an issue of the past. Just finished testing and it seems that the memory leak issue still persists.

Review: Overall, Firefox will be the main internet browser I turn too because its simplicity. The simplicity of its design makes it very easy to customize. Also a growing array of add-one for additional functionality is an added bonus.

Just another great browser from Mozilla

Pros: Great interface, sleek new look, seems to be faster

Cons: Not that many add-ons supported yet, not supported on Windows 95; 98SE; and ME

Review: I am far from disappointed with this new version of Firefox. Firefox 3 delivers in many aspects.

First, the new default skin seems to look way nicer than Firefox 2's. It also seems to be considerably faster than previous versions of Firefox. Speeds, which I think are pretty close to Opera. Being a Firefox user since the first version of Firefox 2, I can tell you that if Firefox's interface was as user friendly as it is now, I would have stopped using IE a long time ago.

One of the main things that bothers me is that only 5 out of my 13 add-ons work. That will soon get better. In the end it's not something to cry over and whine about. The new version of Firefox doesn't support Windows 98SE, 95, or ME. That's not a problem to me, but if it is, I'm sorry that you're missing out on the best version of Firefox.

With this great browser, the benefits out-weigh the cons. It is a well-crafted improvement over Firefox 2 and truly deserves to be the major browser over IE.

The Fox Rocks!

Pros: Fast, secure, renders correctly

Cons: You may have to wait for some of your add-ons to catch up.

Review: Full disclosure: I've been a Firefox loyalist since FF 1.5. That said, I'm lovin' FF3. And who cares if it's not compatible with Win95 or 98? People shouldn't be using those OS's anyway.

very fast with a nice sleek look

Pros: fast, good download speen about 120+ KB/sec, takes about 1 minute to dowload 10 megabytes, can restore webpages after a crash

Cons: not compatible with many addons

Review: Firefox 3 is the best browser out there followed by firefox 2, lets keep waiting for addon support for programs such as AVG whos addons are incompatible with firefox 3. never ever use internet explorer longer than you have to

Best there is and ever will be period

Pros: Everything that was mentioned in the review above.

Cons: Official site crashed during the first 10min. of the release.

Review: I've tested the RC3 release when it was made public and tested (only for an hour or so) for the stable release, eventhough it took me half an hour to download it, and I must say one thing..Amazing.

Fixed most if not all the bugs in RC3, super fast compared to IE7 but roughly the same speed as Opera 9.5, tight security, user-friendly design, "Awesome Bar", and so much more!!

I cant wait for the new addons that will ne implemented in FF3.
