Installation of IE 7 RC1, however, requires that antivirus protection be turned off--an unusual requirement for an Internet browser installation--as well as a full reboot of your test system. Most competing Internet browsers are simply "download and use."
As for features, much has already been written about the tabbing capabilities within IE 7, and RC1 introduces nothing new here. IE 7 RC1 lets you move the tabs as you can within Firefox. Microsoft has also added the ability to visually display all open tabs but in a separate page, not via a mouseover, as you can within Opera. Another feature borrowed from Opera is zoom. You can wheel in or wheel out on a page, which is perfect for those with less than 20/20 vision.
Perhaps the most significant security enhancement is the new antiphishing component. Using heuristics, or algorithms, rather than white lists, Internet Explorer can analyze a given page and determine whether it's the real McCoy or a spoofed page. Should you land on a suspicious site, you'll see a golden bar across the top of the page. You'll have a chance to correct any errors, saving pages you know are not frauds but that may appear so within IE. In testing on live phishing sites, however, IE 7 RC1 failed to identify as many phishing sites as Netcraft's free IE toolbar.
Microsoft raises the bar on its own security, with a default Medium High setting on its security zone. If you ever need to lower the security zone settings--say, to install new software via download--you'll see a golden bar across the top of the screen, reminding you that you are now surfing under less-than-secure settings. You can use a one-click menu option to change the zone settings back. Microsoft has also neutered all but the most essential ActiveX Controls. If you need more, you'll be asked to activate them on a case-by-case basis. This should limit criminal-hacker attack vectors within IE 7.
Continuing within this release candidate is a complete Really Simple Syndication (RSS) substructure (hence, the reason for the reboot when you install the new IE 7 build). New RSS feeds automatically render as a fairly basic representation of all the current feeds for that page, plus any categorizing the site has done regarding specific topics.
Borrowing from other browsers, IE 7 will automatically size a page so that when it goes to your printer, you won't lose the content on the far right side of the page. The text may be smaller, but the text will be complete. You also have the ability to print only a highlighted section of a Web page. A new feature within IE 7 adds an address bar to every pop-up window, allowing you to determine whether you want to view that content (advertising, for example). Like Shrink to Fit, this feature is currently available in Firefox. And, although, Firefox and Opera have offered this One Click Cleanup of cookies, browser cached items, and temporary files for years, Microsoft has finally made it easy for anyone to delete their browser history and personal information with single click.
In all, IE 7 RC1 merely plays catch-up with the current releases of Firefox and Opera without pushing the envelope--and both alternative browsers are at work now on new releases due near the release of IE 7. For the office that can't or won't switch to these more dynamic browsers, IE 7 for XP SP2 will be a welcomed change from IE 6. But for sheer innovation and (yes) secure browsing, I recommend switching to Firefox 1.5 or Opera 9 today.

Cnet is wrong.....
Pros: Easy to use, fast, efficient.....
Cons: Needs bolder colors
When I first downloaded it I really tested it and tried to get it to bog down or give me those many irritating "error pop-ups" like I would get previously. I have not received a single one since IE 7s download! To me, that says a lot. The RSS feed icon is another handy little feature and is something I use a lot. Alos, the the search box at the very top, right side is well placed and great that you can use several different search engines of your choise. I encourage everyone to try this out.
Cnet is way off on their review, way off. I'm very disappointed in their review and think they did not test this enough nor are they giving the new IE 7 a fair chance.

Holy Crap!
Pros: I would have NO idea
Cons: error in loading!
1. Oh, I see there is a new updated Internet Explorer. Microsoft says "free" upgrade.
2. I go to the microsoft site, download the software, which then loads onto this computer.
3. There is some error when Explorer 7 loads, and the program crashes.
4. What the hey! Ok, if I had not loaded Mozilla onto this computer before, how on earth could I ever access the internet to get any kind of a patch, or even use the old version of Explorer? This was almost (except for SAVE the DAY Mozilla) the end of the internet! Geesh.
5. I think sometimes I just don't know enough about these computers and their software. But, how the heck am I supposed to know what to do when my internet browser crashes!
Has anyone else had the same problems?

IE7 is awesome.
Pros: Speed, tabs, RSS, security, everything.
Cons: No clicking sound; menu bar. =(
The one thing I love about Microsoft is how they copy features and make them sound more exciting. They did a good job with that and IE7. I like how IE7 handles tabs, and it seems a lot faster. IE7 has built-in anti-phishing (something Mozilla is stealing) and people have more control over ActiveX.
I don't like how you can't put the menu bar on the top unless you edit the registry. Oh well. And I really love the clicking sound with IE6. I'll miss that.
Microsoft is doing a good job with IE7 and I hope it continues to dominate the market.

Perfect for the general target audience
Pros: tabbed browsing, sleek minimal interface, updated security features
Cons: probably still needs refinement under the hood, doesn't appeal to power users
I am sure there will be bugs and problems as there always are, but bear in mind that IE6 still retains a HUGE share of the internet brower usage. Barring a high rate of bugs and problems, users of IE6 who upgrade to IE7 will be very happy and have much less reason than ever before to switch to Firefox. If they haven't switched in the past, why switch now when the gap is closing? Power users will still gravitate towards other browsers but soccer moms and casual users will find IE7 more than meets their needs. I have used a number of browsers by neccesity for web-design validation and I think IE7 is a bright new release. For speed, compatibility, (for my personal configuration), and usability I will be going back to IE unless some other browsers dazzle me with feature that I have-to-have.

MAY THE " FOX " be with YOU
Pros: new look it sometimes work on msnbc.com an M$ site
Cons: Lacks funtionability, dont match Fox (still best), Opera not even Netscape8.1 or IE6
Opera is good but FireFox just got so much and has such a big community working behind it that its only obtacles are few M$ sites like msnbc.com videos and that is been working on too.
So, the FOX got LOTS of Fire on its Heart

Not one single problem with IE7 RC-1 so far.
Pros: IE 7 RC-1 is shaping up to be a excellent browser. Since beta 3 I have had no problems at all and so far IE 7 RC-1 is performing flawlessly on my PC.
Cons: The only real cons I see are all the negativity coming from CNET. I can't see how Robert Vamosi can say it's not ready for prime time is beyond me and a bit of a joke.
I have not experienced any probs with IE 7 RC-1 or Firefox aside from the memory spiking into the stratosphere from time to time. But Firefox is (I'm told) working on that.
For those interested I'm running Win XP SP-2 fully updated and patched. 2.8GHZ Pentium processor, 1GB DDR 2 SDRAM Kingston. Stanard 3D video card and a 120GB HD. It's a pretty basic set-up. Oh and also 6.1 surround sound installed but that has nothing to do with my browser and surfing the net.
In my opinion all these people who are having problems have probably got some underlying issues on their computers already. Maybe something not patched a dodgy program installed, spyware or adware or worse.
By the way one thing I have noticed is IE 7 definitely seems to work better with the .NET framework installed. I don't even know for sure that IE 7 depends on the .NET stuff but I'm not the only one who has noticed it. Several of my associates have commented that there is a difference in how IE 7 behaves when the .NET framework is installed.
Maybe that will help some people who are having problems.

Two main reason I'll stick with Firefox.
Pros: Under the hood improvements
Cons: Feature not compelling enough to use as a primary browser
With that said, I do appreciate the effort put in to the browser and hope that new users and people who choose IE7 will be safer when surfing the Internet because of the under the hood changes. I agree with much of Cnet's article, but the headline is a bit misleading as it causes an immediate defensive reaction.

IE7 very good..CNET..Huh?
Pros: rendering engine is smooth, new print and tab options
Cons: still has some css quirks.
Firefox is a nice browser but it has many quirks of its own with every new "non beta" release, it still has memory and cpu utilization problems especially when viewing sites with flash.
User Rating:

Overall very good, but has problems regarding stability which may affect ongoing work severely
Pros: Has multi-tab facility available on a single click, is fairly stable and provides more screen area.
Cons: May go off all on a sudden if many tabs are open & the pull on resources is heavy.
More screen area is also available in IE7,making it more uncluttered than the earlier versions.
This apart, IE7 opens much faster than its nearest rival (at least in my opinion), the Mozilla Firefox (latest Beta Version 2).
However, the entire browser may shut down just like that when many tabs are open and multiple downloading is going on, which are heavy on resources. Moreover, the Firefox latest version provides an option of restarting from the place where you left the browser, in case of any faulty or emergency shut-down of the browser. I could not find that option in IE 7 (Beta).
However, overall IE7 has the name of MicroSoft behind it, which no doubt lends much credibility to it.

Pros: Prettier interface than old version
Cons: Slow, fuzzy text, still hasn't caught up to firefox: no extensions or themes, no password manager, etc., etc.
Firefox is still much superior to ie. Unfortunately you still needs ie for pages that are incompatible w/ firefox so at least this is an improvement over the old ie, I guess...

Much improved, especially CSS rendering. Ready now!
Pros: Interface, CSS rendering.
Cons: Years too late. Very little that isn't just catch-up.
I still much prefer Firefox's features, but like Opera most of all - for daily use and simply intuitive design. It's also the most stable and fastest of the browsers. I cannot imagine asking IE or FF to do what I do daily with Opera. It functions on a whole other level. No competition, in my book.

I second the opinion that CNET is wrong and biased
Pros: fast, clean interface, robust security
Cons: annoying security fetures that can not be disabled (not yet)
I found too many inaccuracies in CNET's review to even go into detail. It seems their writing staff misses the mark more often than not...I hope nobody challenges me to produce proof to this, as it could get ugly

finally an IE version i dare to use alongside Firefox and Opera.
Pros: tabbed interface, greater security, sleek interface, option to delete all tracks
Cons: limited customizability, menus not so intuitive, seemed to have messed up my Miranda template scripts
i have Firefox, Opera, Flock and IE7 installed on my computer and use all of them, i enjoy the variety. though for online transactions, at least for now, i still prefer to use Firefox, somehow feels safer and the settings are easier to manipulate with my favourite extensions. IE7 is looking good though, i love the clean and sleek interface and the improved security a lot.

Goodness gracious, this thing is pig slow. Worse, it tries to stuff Windows Genuine Advantage spyware on your machine when you download it. BEWARE! What next, will we have to face Redmond and shout Seig Heil every time we boot Windows? Will I have to subsidize a security guard living in my house to make sure the family isn't boosting any Microsoft software? This thing is ridicuously slow. Firefox is a bit of a pig but IE 7 is just dead meat in mud.
Good going, guys. If Vista is as pathetic as this you guys can make a bundle shorting MS stock.

I think IE 6 users will like the upgrade. Other browser users take it or leave it.
Pros: If you like IE it will be easy to navigate. Finally incorporated features that other browsers have been using for years
Cons: Not fussed with it's installation procedures, and it's still the same ol same ol IE with extras
And once again, when you install IE, you suddenly find some of your default settings changed. But that is pretty standard when installing an MS product, and easily remedied.
It makes a good attempt at Anti-phishing, but Netcraft Toolbar does better. I think with the extensions that are made for FireFox, there is a more content control than there is with IE.
Tabbed browsing.. been there, doing that already with other webbrowser.
Bottom Line:
If you use IE6, and want the bells and whistles that are already in Opera, FireFox and Mozilla, then this is the browser for you.

Talking about biased reviewers....
Pros: Fast, excellent tab support, zoom function, print preview
Cons: Not logically arranged icons and menus
Although not perfect, I would say that IE 7.0 RC1 is a huge improvement over IE 6.x and seems faster and less buggy than IE 7.0 beta 3. I think that it has the best tab support compared to competing browsers, an excellent zoom function, a print preview and adjustment and a nice way to manage add-ons. I cannot really comment substantially on the antiphishing capability but it hopefully works well enough to rescue the clueless.

Needs lots of work
Pros: nothing, not as good as Mozilla
Cons: not as good as Mozilla
IE7 tries to do tabbed browsing but it is nowhere as convininet as Mozilla is. I have to open the favoriets using a certain button (because you can't do it from the menu bar) and then right click on the folder that I want to open in tabs. Mozilla is much easier.
I will continue to use Mozilla because it is much easier to use and faster.
Keep trying Microsoft, this is one battle you are loseing big time.

Better than IE6
Pros: Tabbed interface
Cons: Forced search field
Pros: Tabs work great. Glad they brought back the full menus in RC1.
Cons: IE search capability still no match for Google toolbar. Why force me to have an IE search field taking up screen space? The new menu system is stupid and ugly: it's just menus with icons instead of words and they take up space I'd like to have for tabs.
IE7 is just more evidence that MS "knows" better than I do how to configure my browser. The only reason I gave it 7 is for the tabs and I can live with the rest of the limitations.

It is honestly a lot better than 6, but aren't they all?
Pros: It has a wonderful tabs feature (like most modern browsers) yet this one's little new tab button just feels great! Better support for web standards is very long over due. It's all around OK.
Cons: Outside of the new tabs button, it just doesn't feel right. And it lacks (or seems to lack) a few of the nice perks that come with some other browsers.
Being so bias in my opinions about Microsoft in general, and how I just love Firefox, at first glance, I hated this browser. Now though, after forcing myself to use it for a couple of days, it has really grown on me. I really love the default font, and the Quick Tabs feature. I do miss a few little things from mozilla FF, but I also miss a few things from IE while using FF. Unfortunately, no one has comprized the best of IE, the best of FF, and the best of Opera to make the best browser... untill then, I'll continue to use both IE, which reads Hebrew fonts MUCH easier, and FF, just because I'm used to it.

Pros: Fast Loading Tabbed Browser Clean Interface More Security
Cons: None at the moment
CNET are biased against this Browser, and I dont know why. Some people are against it because its Microsoft, and I would like to point out that if it werent for Microsoft most of us on computers today wouldnt be on them, because they would be impossible to operate.
I have had this browser for two days, and find it great; far better than any other I have used. My pages render fast and clear; my RSS Feeds work simple and fast, and installation was a breeze. You should switch off any Anti Virus and Spy Scanner as you are instructed and you will have no problem installing.
I have been using Firefox for a long time, but I am seriously thinking of switching back to Internet Explorer, which at the moment is far faster.

Pros: tabbed browsing, anti-phishing filter, higher security defaults, very quick load, very quick page rendering, no (Firefox) memory leak
Cons: it still sucks at CSS rendering, it's font rendering with ClearType is still mediocre at best.
Are you kidding? What about this browser is not ready? It handles RSS far better than Firefox could dream of. The anti-phishing filter is a nice addition. The default medium-high privacy settings is a huge plus. Tabbed browsing in general is a massive time saver. This browser is on par with Firefox in every single category. Oh wait, it doesn't have the disgusting memory leak that Firefox has had since forever.
Don't get me wrong, I love Firefox, I've used it since it was Firebird, but there is absolutely nothing about IE7 that is not "not ready for prime time". That is just inaccurate and almost funny.

Wheel Mouse and Sidebar
Pros: Clean interface
Cons: Sidebar options limited, Refresh button should be on the left, wheel of the mouse won't respond just after the page starts loading when scrolling Favorites
This seems to be unusual because it is not the case in FF 2.0b and Opera 9.

It's okay. Not great, but good.
Pros: An up-to-date interface.
Cons: They're about 10 years behind.
1. It's Microsoft. The security will be penetrated in about 2 weeks.
2. Firefox and Opera and Netscape and Safari have had these features for years now. I do recommend trying this, but it's not as good as 3rd party browsers out there.
